“What more can we want?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 January 2014

A beautiful home with a first class hostess, who has time to chat and advise, yet knows when to leave her guests to their own devices. There is off street parking, which we used. The house was built sometime between 1903 and 1909, and is a fine example of old Australian homes with the high ceilings. My wife & I had the en-suit room, which is large and has plenty of storage space. The bathroom is well proportioned, and the shower has excellent water pressure. The timing of breakfast is at your discretion, which consists of fruit, cereals, and various hot food (eggs cooked to order), followed by toast & home made jams and marmalade. The Carlisle breakfast set us up for the whole day. There is a large sitting room next to the bedroom, which is for the use of guests. Coffee, tea and biscuits are available all day. The ambiance and homeliness of this B&B is just right for a relaxing few days. I am only sorry that we were unable to stay longer than the two nights. Carlisle B & B is located within easy reach of the city, via the tram or the local train system, which are both just a short walk from the accommodation. On our next trip to Melbourne we will definitely be staying at the Carlisle B & B.

We stayed at Carlisle B&B for our 25th Wedding Anniversary and we could not have choosen a more perfect establishment, the house is a Federation house built in 1911 and is light, warm and furnished supberbly. We had the ensuited bedroom which was large with a very comfortable bed. The breakfasts included home made muesli and preserves. A selection of fresh fruit and to follow a breakfast cooked to perfection. The location of Carlisle is very handy to the Station, Trams the latter we used on a daily basis to visit the sights of Melbourne. Anne is a perfect host
and makes you feel very welcome, Charlie the Labrador who fetches the morning paper is adorable. We would certainly recommend the Carlisle for lovers of comfort, good food and a great location.

Room Tip: The large ensuited bedroom was our choice

What a lovely B&B. We were very comfortable in a beautiful federation house, with a large bedroom and high ceilings. My husband and I originally booked to stay there for two weeks when we moved to Melbourne from the UK. Anne was so welcoming and could not have been more helpful.
We loved the cooked breakfasts. There was a wonderful variety of fruits prepared daily and even the orange juice was freshly squeezed.
It was in a great spot for transport links. Kooyong station was a short 5 minute walk away which takes you direct into the city. The Route 16 tram stopped a few metres down the road and goes to St Kilda. For shopping, you could try the 72 tram (a few stops down on the 16 tram) to get to Chapel Street. The only down side was that my husband, who is a light sleeper, was woken up occassionly by the trams.
If you're a dog lover you'll soon make friends with the gorgeous Chocolate Labrador 'Charlie', who enjoyed fetching the paper every morning.
There's a great place to eat about 100 metres down the road, called Cumin Thai. The food was excellent and the prices were reasonable too.
As we mentioned before, we originally had planned to stay there two weeks, but had no hesitation extending our stay for another two weeks.

During our 2-months trip to Australia, my husband and I have stayed at many, many hotels, inns and B&Bs, and we both rank Carlisle at the top 5.
We have found Carlisle through the Greenwood guide, and were enchanted by the description of Fergus, the dog. (which is now being harassed by a new very energetic puppy...).
The place is as friendly as a B&B can get.
The rooms are spacious and very homey, as is the very nice shared sitting room, all located in a beautiful and very tasteful Victorian house in Melbourne, at a good location - and once you drive through the gate, you leave the city behind you.
Anne is a lovely, hospitable and extremely friendly lady, and the breakfasts she makes are true treats.
Highly recommended!
