We love River Cottage. It is the perfect holiday destination for us. As a keen birder, I am never disappointed, there is always something to see. We have found some wonderful spots on the farm and love exploring by car, bike and on foot. It is so peaceful and secluded but there is always something to see or do. Our favourite holiday destination.

Thank you for this excellent review and we are delighted that River Cottage is your favourite holiday destination! The birding on the reserve is a highlight with the diversity of habitats and with the cottage situated near the river there is always plenty to see. We look forward to welcoming you back to your ' home from home'.

We had a great stay and from the time we booked, to arrival and finally departure the staff were excellent and super friendly. Unfortunately the area was hit by sever flooding 10-days before we we due to stay, even washing roads away, but the staff kept us updated to the state of the roads and the surrounding area. On arrival a nice welcoming bottle of wine and a card with all our names printed in the card. The house and cottages were clean and tidy with everything we needed. After a few hours the staff (Jane and Amy) came to see if we were settled in and gave us lots of helpful tips regarding our planned self drive in the reserve. We had a small electrical problem with the geyser in the cottages but this was fixed immediately by Terrance. We asked if we could get ice and the next morning we found Terrance had place 2 x bags of ice in our freezer, once again excellent service.

We drove around on our own in the reserve and saw lots of animals and the maps were very accurate. We even managed to find the Bushman paintings. There were 8 x hippo in the river close to the house and great to hear them grunting. On the Sunday morning we had 2 x buck right outside the house in the garden.

The big tree in the garden near the braai is great to sit under and have your meals and watch the birds in the trees. I have no problem recommending Jembisa Kingfisher cottages to anyone who wants a self catering quiet getaway.

Thank you for your very positive recommendation to stay at Kingfisher Cottage and for adding some photos. The outdoor paved area under the shade of the big tree by the swimming pool and braai area do make a lovely space for family relaxation and al fresco dining. We hope to see you again soon.

Spent a stunning two night stay at the secluded River Cottage. The Cottage is set close to the river for those wishing to fish. The cottage is beautifully furnished offering a real home from home.

Buck can be seen from the balcony of the cottage and we were very lucky to have a visit from a resident crocodile. He did not come out the river but made his presence known in the river. He was indeed the highlight to our weekend.

The second night was rained out but we had a stunning evening in front of the log fire in the sitting room.

I would recommend this cottage to couples that are looking for a little romance, and some stunning opportunities to spot some game

We stayed at Podica Cottages over the 2013 Christmas period. If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful breakaway, this is the place to be! The cottages are scattered in the bush alongside the river. The outdoor shower with hot and cold water ensures a true bush experience! We enjoyed all the huge variety of bird species and the Kudus visit the cottages on a regular basis. Each cottage has its own boma with excellent braai facilities - where we spent many hours. The staff members are very friendly and helpful - thanks to Amy and Jane. We experienced an excellent game drive on Christmas morning and were lucky enough to see a lot of animals on the farm. The Field Guide, Edmar, was very experienced (came in a true Christmas spirit) and made the game drive a one of a kind bush experience. Thanks to the staff for an enjoyable getaway in the nature! We would love to go back again.

Room Tip: Cottage Number 3 has the best view of the river

From the moment we inquired and booked this cottage, we received excellent service. The cottage is lovely and it is wonderfully quiet and isolated, giving you a true South African bush experience.

We had a wonderful time and Jane and Amy swiftly came to our rescue when we discovered we had a flat tyre on the morning of our departure. This saved us so much time and effort - they even sms'ed us later in the day to find our if we had returned home safely.

I'd highly recommend Palala River Cottage and we will return soon.
