When you cry because you don't want the vacation to ever end, there is the evidence that nothing short of magical has happened! And for our family-friendly safari experience at Ant's Hill, it was not just our three young kids that left with happy tears, but all of us adults. From the moment you enter, you will be greeted by the professional, friendly staff that are eager to make your stay memorable. You will be served drinks (with ice, preferable to us Americans) and fantastic gourmet meals. You will have a clean, charming lodge and will be served wake-up call with coffee and home-made short-bread biscuits. All of us novice horseback riders enjoyed our leisurely morning rides, followed by an evening drive and sundowner to give our bums a break! Although you will see the same kinds of animals daily, you will find you have a different kind of experience each time you ride/drive, as the animals with which you have a close interaction will change. I cannot give enough accolades to Ant's Hill. From the lovely manageress, the knowledgeable and patient guides, and the serving staff, we enjoyed getting to know you on a first-named basis and are glad to have felt like a part of your family in the short week we were there!

My wife and I have just spent 5 days at Ants Nest in the Waterberg region of Limpopo. We cannot recommend this place highly enough. Absolutely brilliant experience on horseback riding up close and personal to all the wild animals on this reserve. White Rhino, giraffe, water buffalo, wilderbeast, antelope and so on. No big five but who cares when you can be only feet away from such graceful giants as the giraffe. The horses were terrific with all standards or riding ability catered for. The staff were brilliant, and could not have been more polite, professional and knowledgeable about the wildlife and local terrain.
The accommodation we had was a lodge suite, with private living room, terrace and bedrooms.
The food was great, with lots of choice at breakfast and a varied and different menu throughout the week. Nothing was too much trouble and we enjoyed every meal. Sundowners at different locations and even bush BBQ lunches. Fantastic!
All in all a great location and highly recommend to anyone looking for a horse riding safari with a difference. We will definitely be back next year and intend to see more of Africa. A massive Thankyou to all the staff and of course the horses.

Room Tip: Superb lodge rooms at Ants Nest. But for location go for a private lodge room at ants Hill. Amazing...

Before leaving South Africa we wanted to do one last game experience especially for our kids to remember South African wildlife. Ant's Hill & Nest was perfect for this.

Great service, food, accomodation, and above all great walking safaris which taught the kids a lot of interesting things about animals, especially droppings, which they loved. The also went on two horse-back safaris which they loved as well.

The highlight for us was having apero while watching the Rhinos have their dinner and fight for it.

The only downside for us was that dinner was expected for everyone to sit together around one big table. While the setting was beautiful, we would have preferred our own small table and some privacy, rather than small-talk with other guests.

Apart from that, a wonderful good-bye to beautiful SA !

Room Tip: Make sure you choose carefully between Ant's Hill and Ant's Nest - they are 2 different plac...

We are glad that you have had the opportunity to spend some family time in the bush. A shame about the dinner though as you should have expressed that you wanted to dine alone as this is something we always offer our guests as well. Perhaps on your next visit

We had a fantastic 2nd visit to Ants Hill staying in Worldsview. The accomodation was first class, food excellent and the horse riding exhilarating. My son learnt how to trot and canter on Jigsaw so was delighted with the experience. The staff were superb managing all our the families riding experience: novice to intermediate making it an excellent holiday for all of us. We loved having the opportunity to see the baby rhino and the brave horse trying to steal the adults food! A very magical time. We recommed Ants Hill highly.

Room Tip: Worldsview has two separate bedrooms, a double and twin, balconies and pool, fabulous outdoor shower...

In her book The Last Little Blue Envelope Maureen Johnson writes “You can never visit the same place twice…….. By the very act of coming back, you wipe out what came before.” This is categorically not true about our return to Ants in the mesmerising Waterberg where last year’s magical riding and game capture experiences were enhanced and augmented by exploring more of this wilderness paradise. The wide variety of horses allowed even more riding pleasure (is that possible?) and expert guided rides to suit all agendas and needs. There is nothing to compare with the sense of new beginning, riding out in the early morning bush however many times this is repeated and its repetition does not deride or destroy the memory of previous rides. It is always different, always life enhancing regardless of weather, tracks ridden, game animals seen, slow or fast paced rides. It’s hard not to become addicted to this pattern and pace of life and the simple connection between land horse rider and game.
A trip to the Lapalala wilderness in all its primeval glory (with total immersion in its truly awesome unspoilt natural beauty and isolation), was an undoubted highlight for all our young adult family: unlocking these delights, our fantastic guides/companions making our stay a time for life enhancing, pure pleasure. Were we indulged – yes; cared for- yes; made to feel part of this special place – yes.
This is a habit -forming holiday. I may be addicted to the fabulous horses, the sweet smell of the bush after the rain, the honesty of the land and the simplicity and privilege of life viewed from the veranda of a private cottage, but it’s an addiction I have no intention of giving up.
Sincere thanks to all our friends at Hill, Nest and Lapalala for their special care and hospitality. A part of me is still somewhere riding over the top canter tracks in the morning sunshine with zebra cantering along side……Cathryn Edwards

What a beautiful setting for a riding holiday. The lodge is luxurious and comfortable but also cosy with fires lit in the evening. We stayed in the Family cottage which was amazing, our youngest loved the loft room and the setting was perfect. Penny and Shane made us very welcome and did everything possible to make our stay comfortable and ensure we enjoyed all the activities on offer at Ants Hill. We had super guides on our rides, big Thank you to Chris for making sure we saw giraffes but also got to do some nice long canters through the bush. the horses are super and well cared for I especially enjoyed riding Noosa! Our daughters enjoyed the swimming with horses and lunch in the bush afterwards was a nice touch. We will especially miss the sundowners in different locations each evening and the delicious food prepared by Friday and Eric.

Room Tip: Take a massage after a long ride to ease the aching muscles

A horse riding safari is something I've dreamed of doing since I first started riding at the age 6 and last week my dream came true! My stay at Ant's Hill was, without a doubt the best holiday I have ever been on! The location could not be more beautiful and the view from my room (Eagles Nest) was totally stunning. Within minutes of arriving I was given a cold drink, asked how the staff could make my stay as enjoyable as possible and being made to feel so very welcome. Being a young, solo, female traveller it could have been quite scary but I felt so safe and so welcome at all points throughout my stay. every single member of staff was just utterly lovely, the housekeeping staff, guides, the volunteers, EVERYONE! I don't want to name people in case as I am bound to miss someone out!
I chose Ant's for the riding, wildlife and food and all three surpassed my expectations! I went on 15 rides during my 7 night stay, every one different and every one was splendid! I was lucky enough to ride 4 gorgeous horses, Makuti, Shumba, Noosa and Shakira, all of whom were fun, forward but safe rides and it's fair to say I feel a little bit in love with all of them! Le Roux has a real talent for matching horses and riders. The endless canters through the bush, alongside the wildlife were exhilarating and unforgettable. The knowledge of all your guides is amazing, every ride I learnt something new. The highlight of every day was stopping at a beautiful spot every evening, letting the horses run free into the bush and sipping on a white wine watching the sun set.
During my stay I was able to get close to giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, warthogs, impala, onyx, rhinos and buffalo to name just a few!
I am sure I have returned home at least a stone heavier after such wonderful meals, delicious fresh fruit at breakfasts, tasty, hearty lunches, a different, scrumptious cake at tea every day and some exquisite three course dinners! All washed down with some seriously drinkable South African Wines.
I can't say thank you enough or recommend highly enough Ant's Hill.
