Loved this hotel, .
Just off the main road and derived down a tall tree lined alley, you will come to a gate, which opens to a small pea gravelled courtyard.
There, We were met by Atlas and Celine, who welcomed us to the Z Hotel (pronounce Zed Hotel, not Zee). Celine was the hotel manager.
When we arrived and met Celine the manager we could tell this hotel was different than any other hotel that we've been to in Africa. The staff were engaged and attentive a true compliment to the hardworking and customer service focus of the management team! Refreshing
The lobby is opened to the courtyard, the walls covered with very ornate wallpaper. The hotel complex is all open air, like a small village, with rooms, restaurants, bars all interconnected. We were in beautiful room, with an awesome view of the Indian Ocean.
We quickly changed and headed down to the beach, and went to the warn clear blue ocean for a dip. We then went for lunch at one of the restaurants in our complex. It was overlooking the ocean, all the restaurants and bars had names of spices, we ate at cinnamon, it was happy hour so we got a couple of drinks, My daughter had a banana monkey and I had the Zanzibar dawn, and we shared a Zanzibar clubhouse sandwich with fries. We went back to the infinity pool where used the dependable wifi to connect back home - a real nice change to have real wifi again. Then we watched the amazing orange sunset in front of our hotel!
We retuned to our room, laid in our beds and turned on the tv. For the first time since my arrival in Africa.
After a bit of channel surfing, we decided to go out for dinner, we went for a stroll through the ocean side alleyways around our complex.
The food in the area is all good and reasonably priced. There are many different restaurants around the hotel to chose from try them all, our favourites were Langi Langi and Cinnamon, both with excellent food, service with great views.
The only negative things I can say about the Z hotel, is that the rooms are small, very cute and not missing anything but space, however with such an amazing beach and ocean why do you want to be in your room anyway. The deck in contrasts is very large.
When you are in Zanzibar check out Stonetown, it's alleys and architecture is breathtaking, also make your way to Prison Island, you'll be able to see giant tortoises, take a spice tour, and try the snorkel tour at Langi Langi for $20 US it's the best deal on the island.
