Loved this hotel, .
Just off the main road and derived down a tall tree lined alley, you will come to a gate, which opens to a small pea gravelled courtyard.
There, We were met by Atlas and Celine, who welcomed us to the Z Hotel (pronounce Zed Hotel, not Zee). Celine was the hotel manager.
When we arrived and met Celine the manager we could tell this hotel was different than any other hotel that we've been to in Africa. The staff were engaged and attentive a true compliment to the hardworking and customer service focus of the management team! Refreshing

The lobby is opened to the courtyard, the walls covered with very ornate wallpaper. The hotel complex is all open air, like a small village, with rooms, restaurants, bars all interconnected. We were in beautiful room, with an awesome view of the Indian Ocean.

We quickly changed and headed down to the beach, and went to the warn clear blue ocean for a dip. We then went for lunch at one of the restaurants in our complex. It was overlooking the ocean, all the restaurants and bars had names of spices, we ate at cinnamon, it was happy hour so we got a couple of drinks, My daughter had a banana monkey and I had the Zanzibar dawn, and we shared a Zanzibar clubhouse sandwich with fries. We went back to the infinity pool where used the dependable wifi to connect back home - a real nice change to have real wifi again. Then we watched the amazing orange sunset in front of our hotel!

We retuned to our room, laid in our beds and turned on the tv. For the first time since my arrival in Africa.

After a bit of channel surfing, we decided to go out for dinner, we went for a stroll through the ocean side alleyways around our complex.

The food in the area is all good and reasonably priced. There are many different restaurants around the hotel to chose from try them all, our favourites were Langi Langi and Cinnamon, both with excellent food, service with great views.

The only negative things I can say about the Z hotel, is that the rooms are small, very cute and not missing anything but space, however with such an amazing beach and ocean why do you want to be in your room anyway. The deck in contrasts is very large.

When you are in Zanzibar check out Stonetown, it's alleys and architecture is breathtaking, also make your way to Prison Island, you'll be able to see giant tortoises, take a spice tour, and try the snorkel tour at Langi Langi for $20 US it's the best deal on the island.

Room Tip: If you need space, get a suite, the quietest rooms are the furthest from the restaurants

We were impressed with every aspect of the Z hotel. From the cold towels upon arrival, to the beautifully detailed upkeep of the rooms. Staff are attentive and helpful, you feel they get to know everyone personally. A tour upon arrival is greatly appreciated. Room is lovely, as were surrounding hotel areas. Poolside area is an absolute highlight. Thanks for an incredible stay.

Room Tip: If returning I would choose a sea view room as we were quite jealous!

My wife and I stayed for 8 nights at this hotel after our Safari Tour and Kilimanjaro trekking. It was time to relax on the beach. I was communicating with Celine from Guest Relations by email since our booking inquiry. Flawless arrival experience: pick-up service arranged by the hotel. Mr. Safe, driver received us at the airport and he helped us to exchange the currency on the way to the hotel. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were warmly welcomed by Celine, and Cheryl General Manager. Receptionist gave us a quick resort tour and took us to the room. I remember that I booked a Deluxe Sea View Room but she took us to the top floor. When the door was opened, we got amazed. That was a rooftop suite, perfect size (spacious) to stay for 8 nights and huge rooftop overlooking the sea and resort. On the rooftop, there are 2 couches and we can enjoy sunshine anytime we want instead of going down to the poolside or beach. I guess this suite has the best view. Welcome amenity incl. a bottle of sparkling wine. We were totally WOWed. The most memorable arrival experience in our life. All employees (especially restaurant named Saruche) were service-oriented and attentive. We had a chance to learn some Swahili from them too. This is the hotel to stay again.

This is a great idea in Zanzibar...one of the few quality hotels that accept only Bed and Breakfast in case you want to spend the day out, or try nearby restaurants or bars, very green beautiful garden, and the best beach location, situated in the area with less tide movement, guaranteeing clean, clear, nearby beach the whole day through.

Zanzibar beaches are famously tidal - with the tide out most of the day, exposing reef and long stretches of sand that house razor clams and urchins (wear sea shoes). Z's location is perfect - the water is swimmable most of the day, and the sandy beaches are blissfully free of urchins and reef. It is one of the only beaches in Zanzibar's main island that is this way - so it is a bit more developed than other areas.

The Z is the nicest. The restaurants are good, if a bit on the pricey side, the views are amazing, and the pool facing the ocean is one of the prettiest and cleanest that I've been in. There's a bit of a local nightlife here too at the little local bar next door.

The Z hotel offers everything you could want on Zanzibar. It has a pool with the most amazing views and sunsets imaginable. It is clean and the staff are very friendly. They go out of your way to make you happy. They are very proud of the hotel and their Island and it shows. Sea view rooms are beautiful and always clean and wonderful presentation. Gillian who works in guest services was great in making sure we were getting everything we needed and was great with information before we arrived. The owner, was so kind and personally organized and help me decide on dive sights and dive trip. Breakfast you don't want to miss as it is really great. The area of nungwi the hotel is situated in is really great and very easy to and safe to get to explore the other beaches and see the turtles. I can really say that the high rating on trip advisor is spot on with this hotel and I would go back every time. Thank you for an amazing experience.

We stayed at the Z Hotel in February 2014 for 6 nights after a week on safari. We couldn't have chosen a better place for our post-safari rest.

Rooms were amazing, food was fantastic (even after a freak storm damaged the restaurant roof), the staff and management couldn't do enough for you and everybody worked so hard to repair the damage in no time. The location of the Z hotel is ideal, being directly on the beach and close to other bars/restaurants, which were easy to walk to if you wanted a change.

Both the management and staff are amazing and nothing is too much trouble.

We enjoyed our stay that much, we have booked to go back next year!

Would totally recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Sea view is a must!
