“Fantastic hotel”
Reviewed 29 August 2009

We stayed at the z hotel as part of our honeymoon and we were delighted to have choosen to stay there. They offered fantastic extras for honeymoon guests. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. We stayed in a garden view room on the ground floor.
The room was beautifully decorated and well equiped. The bathroom was a great size with an endless supply of hot water and a very powerful shower. The pool area is very pretty and the pool over looks the amazing clear beach.
I would 100 % reccommend this hotel .

My boyfriend and I stayed in Z hotel after a 10 days safari in Kenya and Tanzania. The hotel was just what we were looking for: confortable, very beautiful and romantic. We arrived there exhausted and left relaxed and happy. The hotel is small which is good and the atmosphere remains intimate. A little far from Stonetown (1 hour driving) thought that oblige to take a taxi (quite expensive- 120$ return).

From the moment you arrive the staff are very attentive and friendly and set the tone for an amazingly relaxing stay. Great food and drinks are available throughout the day - from the buffet breakfast to the snacks available by the pool or in Cinnamon (very cool cocktail bar with chilled out tunes and funky furniture). Also great evening dining in Saruche and there is a really good selection of shows - the Maasai show is particularly memorable.

So much to do in Nungwi if you are feeling a bit more active - the Z staff are very helpful in organising trips into Stonetown or diving trips (really recommend taking a diving/snorkelling trip to Mnemba). Z is also really well situated for safari excursions. Finally, took a great sunset cruise on a boat called Mrembo, be sure and try the captain's punch!

I have recently returned from a trip to Zanzibar where I stayed in the z hotel, Nungwi. As soon as we arrived at the hotel we were given a warm welcome by the staff along with a welcome drink and shown to our Ocean Front Cottage which was absolutely amazing.
We had our own private deck which lay directly over the ocean, allowing us plenty of privacy for sunbathing and an opportunity to watch the dolphins when they came to play - quite a spectacular experience!
The furnishings in the rooms are all ultra-modern, combining designer furniture with some traditional Zanzibar features, and each room has it's own ipod station, White Company toiletries & plasma tv along with wifi throughout the whole hotel.
The infinity pool at the hotel is probably one of the best I've ever seen, perfect temperature and ideal for watching the infamous Zanzibar sun set from, with a beautiful cocktail in hand!
The staff were all extremely friendly, spoke very good English and couldn't do enough to make our stay as memorable as it was! The hotel has themed nights in their downstairs restaurant, Saruche, along with beach bbq's which are just fantastic - eating the freshest fish and seafood while listening to the ocean-it's really quite a surreal experience!
The location of the hotel is ideal as it allows one to walk around the Nungwi area, meet the locals and experience some real African hospitality & culture (some of the other hotels I stayed in are so secluded you could be anywhere in the world!)
There is a dive centre in the hotel which arranged all our diving for us, this meant we got to dive from their new speed boat-the diving was amazing; a dive or snorkel is a must do while in Nungwi / Zanzibar and the marine life is breath-taking!
The highlight of the trip was probably the sunset cruise on our last evening on one of the local dhow sailing boats called "Mrembo", which means beautiful in Swahili...how appropriate!!!
The only downside I can think of was perhaps the slow service, but then again we mustn't forget when we are in Africa!!
I will definitely be returning to the z hotel again on my next Zanzibar visit!

Whatever we write in this review, it will not do justice to the experience we enjoyed when spending our honeymoon at the Z hotel. From the first minute of our arrival to the last minute of our stay, Hafis and his staff made our stay one that we will never ever forget. We have never experienced customer service like what was on offer at the Z hotel, all the staff there are a joy to behold and nothing is too much trouble. From the complimentary champagne on arrival, the lobster dinner on the beach, the sunset cruise - all enjoyed in a beautiful setting. The spotless hotel is perfectly situated for breathtaking sunsets, complimented by great cocktails which in turn are a perfect accompaniment to the superb food that we enjoyed during our stay. Hafis and his staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and it was a shame to leave it all behind

I am well travelled individual and expect nothing but the best when I go on holiday with my partner. She too has expectations which I try and exceed to the best of my ability. Boy do I try.

Anyway back to the hotel. As you can tell I am a very honest kinda guy. So I have no choice but to tell you my expereinces whilst we were there.

Upon check-in we were greeted by a warm and welcoming host who turned out to be the General Manager. He gave us a guided tour of the hotel facilities which made us feel so special and indivdual.

During our stay, other members of the hotel from the room attendent to the waiter were just as helpful and natural in caterering our needs.

I only wished that we stayed longer. I would like to thank everyone for a wonderful stay.

This hotel was really wonderful after our safari - relaxing, lovely position on the beach, attentive staff. We had the 10 days here for our honeymoon and we had a great time.
The staff were friendly and always very helpful. The food is great, the rooms are lovely - we had one facing the infinity pool and the cocktail bar is greta for watching the sunsets.

As we were honeymooners they gave us some extras - sunset cruise, massage, lobster dinner and sparkling wine and fruit platter on the balcony when we arrived.

There are lots of things to do on the island and we walked up to the turtle sanctuary, visted the butterfly farm, did a spice tour, went out on a boat snorkeling and around the island. Do be careful on the spice tour as they want your money!! The hotel could assist more with tour information. We then went for a night in Stone Town which was a great way to end the trip.

Would definitely recommend.
