“A wonderful place to stay in Zanzibar!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2011

We stayed here for three nights on our honeymoon and it was like an oasis compared to the other "resort" we were originally booked at in Zanzibar (see my review of the Zanzibari for details on that awful place). This hotel was like heaven compared to the Zanzibari. The rooms were clean and nicely furnished. The staff was very kind and always there to help whenever we needed anything. The pool was very nice and there were plenty of chairs to relax on, either on the pool or by the beach. They also have two computers with free internet access, which is nice. And the food was definitely plentiful, with many options for any type of diet. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

My only "bad" comment is that you can't leave the resort and walk around outside. It is totally run down and a bit frightening outside the doors of the hotel.

I stayed in the Doubletree for five days with some friends after a nice safari in Tanzania mainland. My room had a fantastic view overlooking the ocean,it was nicely decorated, had a really comfortable bed, flat tv, fridge. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Food was very good as well, you can have fresh fish every day. The beach was a bit narrow when the tide was high, but in the morning one can go for a long walk, although locals can become a bit too pushy when trying to sell you something. I would definitely recommend staying in this hotel.

First time in Africa & in Zanzibar. We (2 adults & 1 10 yrs child) stayed in a super deluxe beach front room with all inclusive plan between July 7 & July 16, 2011. We had a great time & stay at this very clean & efficiently managed resort. Excellent housekeeping (room 226) & delicous food served with efficiancy & smile. There is something to eat for everybody(my wife is vegeterian & gluten allergic). The only negative thing is the short road to the resort from the main road which is bit rough & is under consideration of local authority as I understood. The resort manager Mr. Stanley is highly service minded & greet almost every guest with smile & due respect. Chief house keeper Mr. Abbas is prompt to solve the small unexpected problem without burocracy. Personal from the pool bar & pool kichen very kind & helpful. More staff is needed to poolbar during rushhours when everybody orders a cocktail. Many thanks to everybody whom we meet there. Special thanks to Mr Stanley forv his efficiancy in management & of course a smiling face. We would defintly stay at Double tree if we visit Zanazibar & we highly recoommend to people who are planning to visit Zanzibar. One should remember you are in Africa. The negative remarks from some guests are from those who either been never be statisfied no where or are on a low bughet with expectations beyond their pockets.

This is definitely not a 4* Hilton. The service levels in general is slow or non-existant. The staff is not trained adequately, and, most of them dont speak or understand English. Staff don't go the extra mile, and, nothing gets done unless you kick up a fuss. Despite this, they are always friendly and never rude. The hotel in general is ordinary, not exclusive. Its location next to a fishing village resulted in the beach being polluted by plastic bottles. This hotel should be marketed a with a 3* rating.

This is a very nice place to stay for relax. The staff at the restaurant is a bit slow like most things in Africa. The cleaness is very good. The dolfine bar wasn't able to make a cappuccino for 5 days eventhough the have a very nice espressomachine. All in all a nice place to just enjoy life. The internet is very slow and not stabil at all

Dear Guest, we would like to thank you for your important feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and looking forward to welcoming you again in the near future.
Our management team has addressed training issues with the catering staff and we hope next time you will enjoy capuccino at the Pool bar. Slow internet speed issue has been also looked into by our IT personnel.

My girlfriend and I spent 5 nights at the DoubleTree and we had a very relaxing, comfortable time. The hotel is situated right on the beach and has all the amenities you would want: free wifi, spa, pool, etc. The restaurant was also quite good. There was a buffet breakfast and dinner. The staff were very helpful and surprisingly efficient. The location is not so great. It takes about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours to get to Stone Town and roads, even though paved, aren't exactly comforting. All in all, we would come to stay here.

Dear Valued Customers, thank you very much for your feedback. We really appreciate your comments and are very pleased that you found our Resort a relaxing place to stay and our service up to your standards. With regards to your comments regarding our location, please, note, that North tip of the island and especially Nungwi (where we are located) is famous beach location in Zanzibar, much liked by the tourists for clean pristine beaches, spectacular sunset views and superb opportunities for water sports. If the aim is to combine exploration of historical treasures of Stone Town and best beach holidays in Zanzibar, a good solution might be to stay one or two nights in Stone Town and the rest of the holidays in the North of the island.

First: Zanzibar is safe and the people are very friendly.

We stayed 4 weeks in this lovely resort. The staff was always very friendly as we only know it from American cruise ships like HAL. Most of them spoke good English, especially at the restaurant and bars. Even the housekeeping staff can understand you good. The rooms were clean and towels were changed twice a day and they close the curtains (blocks sunlight totally) when you are at dinner. The management made every effort to make you feel better than home. Thank you Stanley.

When we arrived, we could not get WiFi in our ocean side room. Because we had 2 netbooks the LAN was not enough. No problem. They just placed a WiFi router in our room. Perfect. They are improving WiFi on the site very well.
Air-condition in the room is powerful and the resort has its own power generator, which is very necessary because of the daily public power break downs. The Gym is air conditioned and you can do your basic exercises.

As HHonors Diamond members and All Inclusive guests we enjoyed the daily fruit basket in the room and the refill of the mini bar. With Hedda, the restaurant manager, we could arrange to get a bottle of wine instead of the beer in the mini bar. Unfortunately she left. Cocktails at the pool bar were excellent and the house wine was good. The weekly African dinner on the beach is a high light with very nice decoration and with Massai dancers.

The beach at the hotel is nice. With the tide we got every day the chance to swim. Due to the large reef the sea was always calm. Within the 4 weeks of our stay the beach changed completely and then back as it was in the beginning. Depending on the tide the water is close to the resort und you can swim. There is also a sand bank close. Depending on the moon you get a couple of days per month with very low tide and you can walk on the reef out into the sea for several hundreds of meters. We saw bright red and blue star fishes and lot more. You can watch the fishermen and the local people.

Don’t forget to visit the Island and the surrounding of the hotel. The people in the village Nungwi are friendly and you feel safe there. We walked thru the village to the east coast and during low tide back on the beach to the Hotel. You can also walk on the beach to Kendwa (south), but remember the tide. Some parts you cannot pass at high tide. It was never boring to us.

They are improving very much at doubletree. After 4 weeks we recognized a lot of improvements. And it still goes on. I was told there will be more sun beds soon.
We will come back next year definitely.
