What an amazing holiday destination which was made even better by such a fantastic resort. The people were friendly and accommodating, the food was sublime and never ending, the rooms were just beautiful and every day the beds were made up with fresh flowers and small gifts. The grounds were immaculately clean and stunning, and the views were breathtaking. We were able to have any cocktail imaginable as well as other drinks and food was provided in abundance at all hours. With an exquisite pool and private beach as well as a bar built over the ocean what more could you want. This was the best place I have stayed at to date!!

Clean and upmarket rooms with great TV viewing (very necessary when South Africa played). Stayed on 3rd floor so had a fabulous view of the sea. All rooms lead out to a garden but are separated by wooden fence structures. Food excellent and a massive choice. The sea does not go out with the tide so one can swim all day which is a huge plus! Great walks along Nungwi Beach and a good place to relax and chill!

Room Tip: Must have a sea view!

This hotel was a dream. Beautiful white beaches with light blue water. The rooms towards the beach front are lovely. The jetty bar is a must visit where you can spend your entire day watching the waves wash over the beach. This place is a little peace of heaven. The landscaping, the restuarants, the spa are all top notch 5 star quality. The long never ending pool is one of the best I have ever experiences.
The pool bar and restaurant were my favorite. Thank you for your warm hospitality Tanzania.
The area around the resort isn’t the best, but in all honesty you will never step out of the hotel.

We were on our honeymoon during the last couple of days in October and November and had a amazing stay at the resort. The beaches, pool, dining and service standard of the staff was great. They really went out of their way to ensure we have a memorable honeymoon. I would recommend this resort!

in September this year we visited Zanzibar for 8 days 2 days in Stonetown (a must) and 5 in diamonds la Gemma del' Est.

If you are looking for a 5 star resort, this is it. Very neat, clean, fantastic food, beautiful everything the pier restaurant and bar and Hubbly room. The staff are very helpful, though it's doubtful should you have anything to complain about you'll find a manager they are very scarce.

We took the AI package though that excludes one from the pier restaurant (unless you are willing to pay in US Dollars) but not from the bar and the Hubblyroom. spend a night at the bar and watch the fish in the water - it's magic and perhaps you'll also get a visit from the Dolphins as we did (I felt so blessed)

They only have Ice cream down by the pizza restaurant on the beach. Mind you I did notice cheese is not an everyday item in Zanzibar nor is real Milk readily available.

Do not feel obliged to tip only if you get exceptional service and you have cash to burn especially for South Africans. As I said in my Stonetown review, be polite, learn thank you(Asanti sana), hallo (Jambo) and no thank you (Hapana asanti sana - something to that effect), it does help.

At the resort you can dress as you like.
AI note: there are no water-sports included.

Short boat trip of +- 10 min to Nungwi Boat-making spot and the Town, to and back and an hour in 30 US Dollars (If you negotiate). Mind you renting a taxi might cost you just the same.

Depending on the tides, chances are you wont be able to walk on the beach that passes the other resorts close by. Because the La Gemma Del'Est beach is "built up" it is in pristine condition but "cut" off from a stroll-on-the-beach experience especially in Sept.

Oh but the water and the sand is something to behold, you want to just bring it home, it is fantastically beautiful, see through to the bottom, sky blue, pure white sand with an out of this world texture......yes, I brought that back home with me, some sand from their sea. No sharks just loads of marine life.

Get ready to walk at this resort - a little exercise never hurt anyone, but the distances become shorter with frequent use and then one does not need to use the golfcarts they have to assist you from point to point.

Very "French" culture - I don't mean rude, just, people keep to themselves (unless you can find other South Africans there) and don't expect any Wild parties they have subdued evening entertainment, very classy. The Resort next door however will make you long for a jive with their booming music, I assume nightclub.

It's also almost as if the staff at the beach were flirting the whole time, if you are South African you'll know how to deal with it.

Very very 5 star, I cannot fault it, but if you are looking for fun, keep on looking, this is for the reserved upper class or as my Boyfriend said it's an upmarket old age home.

When we go Back to Zanzibar, because if you experience one African place it needs to be Zanzibar, we will try 4 star or even 3 star for more of a celebrative atmosphere.

Our Travel agency Exotic Destinations/Holidays saw to it we got the best AI price. The plane wasn't full there or back, and the driver our agents organised - Salom - was really a charm. - We had smooth sailing all the way.

Room Tip: Shop around for agencies that deal specifically with Zanzibar and - Go for AI - DO spend some time e...

Had a wonderful stay at Le Gemma. The choice of food was great, the rooms neat and comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful. The sunsets beautiful especially from the deck. A paradise in Africa! Definitely recommended! The Spa a bit pricey.

Had an amazing 7 days stay at La Gemma. Rooms are very clean loved the flower decorations they do EVERDAY on the beds, POOL is AMAZING, BEACH BAR is the place to be, they have other bars as well but we preferred the beach bar one, enjoyed nice music every night from the DJ. FOOD IS NICE, lots of VARIETIES to choose from especially on Friday’s when the MASAI guys danced and dinner is served along the beach. Their cocktails are amazing. Places to go to are not that much just a few are: STONE TOWN, MUSEUM,THE ROCK RESTAURANT is in the middle of the sea it’s nice to go there for experience. Water sports activities and the Masai Market on Friday’s are quite pricey, need a little more deeper pockets for those.
