if you are looking for a place for destination wedding with a big group this is it. The couple can hide in the sister hotel Diamond Star of the East while the rest of the party revellers can enjoy the amazing hotel and great service.

Room Tip: All rooms have nice grass balconies and face the sea.

I stayed at this hotel after reading the good reviews on Tripadvisor. However, in reality, this hotel was quite a disappointment (especially, considering the average daily rate being charged). By no means is this property a 5 star hotel. The service is absolutely horrendous. Most of the hotel staff have no service etiquette and clearly have not been trained to cater to guests expecting a 5 star / luxury service.

I think most people have written good reviews for this hotel because of the all-inclusive offer whereby guests can enjoy unlimited liquor. I see no other reason for the very positive reviews.
If I had to list all the things that went wrong during my stay at this property, it would take hours to write the review. However, in short, the service was horrible, the deluxe rooms looked tired (most of the furnishings are not of the quality that you would expect at a 5 star hotel), the wifi service was the worst I have ever experienced at a hotel and the buffet food was mediocre. The hotel ended up moving me to 3 different rooms over a 4 night stay (due to various different service / room issues) which was very inconvenient in of itself. In summary, stay away from this hotel if you can.

Room Tip: One way ride to the hotel from the airport will cost you around $60.

"Jambo" Pleasant staff and always willing to please. We stayed for 10 nights which is probably a bit long for this type of Resort. I would recommend that if you are going for this length of time to spilt your stay between 2 resorts or maybe one resort and a couple of days in a hotel. The food is not bad at all, the only problem is that it is pretty repetitive, even if you are all inclusive there is variety but you can only do so much variety over 10 days. If you want a steak or sea food, this does not fall into the all inclusive package, so you will have to pay additional and the prices are pretty hectic from a South African point of view. If you plan to do excursions from the resort, attempt to get at least 2 other couples to go with you as the rates are in dollars and they charge premium prices and unfortunately some people are prepared to pay these prices hence they continue to charge these exorbitant prices. `the more you are in a group the easier it is to barter for cheaper rates. An unguided taxi trip to Stone Town and back for two will cost you $100 and with a guide you are looking at $240, I was happy doing Stone Town without a guide and saw everything I wanted to see and do. Just use a map.

Room Tip: In the deluxe rooms if you sleep on the left hand side you can watch TV, if you happen to be on the right hand side you have to contend with the bed post. WiFi is not available in the rooms and is pretty erratic around the resort. I believe they only have Deluxe, Suites and Villas, but all appear to have a sea view. This really a stunning resort.

We came here after a safari in Kenya and it was really what we were needing.
We stayed at a suite with sea view and the patio / garden was very good to stay for a while before breakfast or dinner. All nights they put the mosquito nets around the beds.
The swimming pool and surrounding areas were very clean and pleasant, they had sand where we could rest (at an upper level from the beach), what it was good at flood tide because the sand in the beach was covered by the sea.
Although it was Winter, the water temperature was very nice.
The gardens are fabulous, very good to walk during the early morning or the evening.
The restaurant was very good, we usually had meals outside because the temperatures were pleasant.
It was a very good experience and we recommend it for families but also for couples, friends and solo trips.

We were staggered at how beautiful the setting for this hotel is. Palm trees, fantastic colours in the sea... really beautiful. We were in one of the "Deluxe" rooms in the 100 block. The room was adequate though the patio chairs were not designed for comfort.

The buffet was was good, lots of variety and generally, the staff were friendly and attentive. However, on a couple of occasions, all the waiting staff just disappeared and you could not get empty plates cleared or tea/coffee.

What was frustrating, and let the hotel down, was the housekeeping in the rooms. Every day, there was something that had not been replaced and, to start with, trying to get some laundry done was like pulling teeth! In fairness to the hotel, speaking to other guests, we found that they had no such issues and it may be that we just had a poor room attendant. And it was Ramadan.

There was supposed to be wifi in the room but the signal was so weak, it was worse than usless
Would we go back? Probably not. Would we recommend it? With the above caveats.
