As an East African resident for about 10 years I have had the opportunity to stay in many places. ZiVilla is by far the best place I have ever stayed. The house was beautiful, the staff was helpful and the food was great. Our group ranged in age from 3-45 and we all had a great time. We were in need of some downtime and ZiVilla hit the mark. Within the first 2 hours, we were already planning our next visit.

The chefs gracefully accepted our requests and special attention was paid to those in our group with allergies.

The only downside was that the company that handles the booking was not able to take an American credit card, making the booking a more difficult process.

“It's like a having a hotel all to yourself exclusively...wonderful!”
Reviewed 31 December 2014 for a stay in December 2014

Zivilla is a beautiful home which the owner has taken immense care and love to furnish over time. The interior decor is African based with beautiful masks, crafts, furniture pieces and statues dotting the entire house making for a picturesque gallery within a home.
The staff are friendly, well trained and provide 3 meals a day with snacks in the afternoon. It was nice not to have to go shopping for food and drink as these were amply provided as part of the accommodation. A well stocked bar with a large pool table and disco lights occupies part of the ground floor as well as a mid sized pool with all the ground floor rooms with doors opening out onto the deck.
A small beach can be found at the bottom of the property although it can be a bit noisy in the mornings with the fishermen repairing their nets and boats nearby. The bedrooms are large, self contained and well appointed although one should be aware at there is only one room with a bathroom that is totally walled and closed off out of the 4 bedrooms available. So for those sharing rooms be prepared to be exposed to your roommates which can be tricky for parents sharing with children.
The kitchen is locked by the staff shortly after dinner so it's important to let them know what you may need after dinner (for Example milk for toddlers) so that it's kept aside in the fridge in the bar area. One should also let staff know if they want towels changed often as the assumption I feel is that you can use your bathroom towel for the duration of your stay. All in all, I found that the staff are absolutely willing to execute any requests you have in a most friendly and respectful manner. Seif the manager is excellent.

“Out of all words!”

We stayed at Zi Villa for 8 nights in April – Me, my parents and my siblings (all of us are adults) – And we had the most amazing time! (Even though we came off-season and we had lots of rain) Everything was more than we expected. We looked at other Villas in Matemwe beach, and Zi villa is, by far, the best of the best. Great location, amazing beach just few steps away from the huge private pool, and an unbelievable view to the Indian Ocean and Mnemba Island. The villa is equipped with everything. From a huge TV and DVD to Snorkeling gear and flippers. Bedrooms are big and equipped with huge beds and a nice bathroom. Staff were extremely attentive and willing to assist - nothing was a problem (Hakuna Matata). I would definitely recommend this Villa over a Hotel stay. Great value for the price paid. It's the place which never slips out your memories.

Stunningly situated villa beside white sandy beach. Perfect for teenage family or family groups. Plenty of room and large beautiful pool.. Very secluded yet only an hour away from Stone Town. Friendly staff. It's hard to leave as it's so relaxing. Would highly recommend it and was impressed with the prompt replies from owner and manager of the property.

“A piece of a paradise - assisted by attentive and friendly staff.”

We stayed at Zi Villa for 7 nights in October - my wife and I plus 3 children (16, 13 and 11). I'd stayed there before in 2005 (for a friend's 40th) and had been bowled over by the place - hence my return this year. I must admit to a element of nervousness before we got there - how would the children handle it? Zanzibar (and Zi Villa) was, I recalled, very different to the typical tropical island hotel experience (where daily experiences are pretty much controlled and sanitised by the hotel staff). By contrast, at Zi Villa, we tended to be the masters of our own experiences, always on the lookout for new things to do (and always willingly assisted by the locals who were/are quick to provide transport (read: dhow) to take you fishing, snorkeling, diving, up the coast to a restaurant.) Anyway, the whole experience worked out very well - the kids had an amazing and never-to-be-forgotten time. Believe me, they saw both sides of the island (eye popping "poverty" as well as unbelievable natural beauty) - but that just added to the overall experience.
Staff were extremely attentive and willing to assist - nothing was a problem (hakuna matata) and we barely lifted a finger around the well appointed and comfortable house. Did PADI Open Water 1 as well (with my 16 year old) - so came away with something in addtion to lasting memories. Lastly, if you do spend some time at Zi Villa, pop over at 6pm to the sand bar at Matemwe Bungalows (about 500m down the beach) for dhowas and caipirinhas. A perfect end to day in Zanzibar and Zi Villa....

“Stunning villa with the most amazing sea views”

There were 10 of us who stayed at Zi Villa for 3 nights and it didn't disappoint us. My partner and I were lucky to score the 'sultan' suite upstairs with the most amazing size room, ensuite, gigantic bed and a gorgeous balcony with views across the ocean. The pool surpassed my expectations being amazingly deep and large. It was also salt chlorinated which was a bonus. Steps close by took you right down onto the beach in seconds.
The villa had a lovely homely feel about it but it had generous sized rooms and lovely decor depicting the surrounding area. The staff were lovely and discreet but there if we needed them. Our meals were very tasty with fresh fish caught daily and served lovely and hot.
For snorkelling and diving you could take off right from the beach in front of the Villa and I would highly recommend the snorkelling just off the reef.
I have stayed in many resorts around the world but this was truly one of the most beautiful and relaxing places I have ever stayed at.
The only slight negative if I had to say would be that the showers were always cold and slow, but when you consider where you are and how warm it is, it is not really an issue.
