We were staying down the beach at Sunshine B&B (nice place) and came here for lunch. Lunch was great-amazing views and good food. Kids enjoyed the cheese pizza and we had red beans with coconut milk with chapati bread -fantastic! Honestly one of the best things I have eaten in this 3 week trip!

We visited Villa Kiva for lunch recently following a recommendation from a friend. From start to finish the visit was very disappointing. Having first been welcomed in we were then ignored and left waiting for a long time before anyone brought a menu (we had to wave for attention). We ordered food including coffee which we asked to have first. No coffee came. We asked a second time for the coffee in the long long wait for our food. Still no coffee arrived. More than an hour after ordering we were served a tiny portion of fish and rice, and a cold pizza. When my husband complained to the waiter he muttered "problem in kitchen", and was then unsure how to deal with us. After clearly saying that we were unhappy and did not expect to pay the full amount, the waiter proceeded to bring a bill for the full amount. My husband then went to find the manager, who checked with her waitress to verify our story and then had the nerve to tell us that we were wrong and that the pizza was not cold and that we had never ordered coffee. There was no apology. When we explained that we would not pay the full bill for such bad service the manager asked for half of the bill and took our money, still without apology. We won't ever return nor will we recommend this to our friends.

We did not stay at the Villa Kiva but we stopped in for dinner one night and had a very enjoyable time. We arrived at about 6.45pm and found they were not open for dinner until 7.30. We were about to sit down and wait when one of the staff came to us and said the kitchen had informed him that it would be OK to seat us. A good omen to start out.
The dining room is not on the beach side of the hotel and is set with a view of a very nice garden/pool area.
The ala carte menu has a single price for each course and a wide variety of items under each title. For example the main course section has 10 or 12 things to choose from and all are $12. It was only an observation but it looked as though the hotel guests had a fixed four couse meal but we were able to choose the courses we wished.
The food was good but not spectacular. The presentation on the plate was spectacular, when it arrived we had to take a moment to enjoy the visual before we started eating.
I would definately recommend eating at the Villa Kiva at least once when you visit Matemwe.
