We arrived in Zanzibar after 3 weeks on the road and ready to relax. We couldn't have picked a better spot!! Every member of the staff was friendly and helpful - the food was delicious and the service fantastic. Our room was gorgeous with an incredible view of the Indian Ocean and a private island. I felt as if I had stepped onto a tropical island movie set when we arrived. The facilities were spotless, the architecture and gardens stunning and no one else around! The dive shop was great and very accomodating - we had a great morning snorkeling. can't say enough about this beautiful spot!

It is my privilege and pleasure to write the review for this magnificent place. Or rather, I should say: magical place.
For the first time in many years, I felt completely relaxed and "out of reality", a kind of time-travel back to the time when the clock was nice toy and nothing more (I hope You know what I mean...)

Let me explain: the hotel is located "in a middle of nowhere" with no buildings in neighborhood at all, so there is nothing like noise, rush etc. Just a seaside (and btw, good snorkeling and diving place!) which is matched by hotel. They complement each other, small bungalows give space and chance of being close to the nature.
The hotel itself is well-matched by the crew, very helpful and always smiling - they are there to help You.
The next element, restaurant is au pair with the hotel and crew, the dishes are very good at their minimum, and if You hit catch of the day, Your feeling and eval most probably will move to EXCELLENT as in our case ;)

Last but not least, Dive Point Zanzibar which is available onsite deserves a separate review but to make the full hotel review, it is also great place with great staff supporting Your watersport activities.

All in all, we were really unhappy leaving the place and most probably we'll be back, hopefully soon!

ps. we were lucky enough to stay there when the hotel was almost empty, but this is not a place for "all-inclusive-disco-techno-noiZe-afficionados" and I hope it will stay like it is now, a UNIQUE SILENT HARBOUR that lets You totally relax.

Sunshine Marine Lodge exceeded all of my expectations. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was tasty (think banana and nutella pancakes for breakfast every morning!) and the setting has got to be one of the most beautiful along the eastcoast of Zanzibar - still very untouched by commercial tourism. Special mention goes to Dive Point Zanzibar, (the lodge's own dive centre) who gave me an incredible introduction to scuba diving, with very knowledgeable divemasters and diving conditions (situated right at the Mnemba Atoll) that had me enthralled from start to finish. Sunshine Marine Lodge is a greate get-away - and I would certainly recommend it, particularly for the diving.

We were looking for somewhere to relax after a safari in Tanzania and Sunshine marine lodge didn't disappoint. After a bumpy ride from Stone town we wondered what were arriving at - there is nothing else for miles! But that was fine for us as all we wanted was a bit of rest and relaxation.
We stayed 3 nights and did very little, a walk on the beach at low tide, swimming in one of the 3 pools, a snorkelling trip to the fabulous Mnemba atoll and lots of reading! We enjoyed drinking our way through the cocktail list and the food in the restaurant was delicious although we thought the portion sizes at dinner could have been slightly larger. Service was a little slow at times, although the more we relaxed the less we seemed to notice this!
We stayed in a blue wave suite, having a fantastic view of the sea and Mnemba island. The room was large with a walk in shower, huge bed, sitting area and a balcony with comfortable seats. All spotlessly clean. We felt the only thing missing was information about the hotel (meal times, check in/out times, bike hire, laundry, wifi info etc) and the surrounding area.
Perhaps if we'd stayed longer we'd have wanted more, but for a short stay this place was perfect for us.

We couldn't believe how remote and gorgeous this location was! We had the view, the beach and the three pools practically to ourselves. The dive center where we got our PADI certifcation was on the hotel grounds which was great and the staff was extremely friendly and highly competent! The diving was superb we saw turtles, dolphins and too many fish to name! We got one of the best massages we've ever had at the hotel spa. The rooms were spacious, simply but beautifully decorated and the view was spectacular! The two only draw backs (which didn't bother us but are worth noting) is that you can't access the deserted white sand beach at high tide, and the restaurant good was very good but the service was slow.
