“Stay here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 January 2014 via mobile

Wow! I could gush for hours. This is most definitely the place to stay. I would recommend at least 4 nights.
My husband and I are world travellers, we have done every continent and this in mind. I would say Sunshine Marine Lodge has got the mix absolutely spot on.
The lodge is about a year old now, so still very new....everything is still fresh and new. The lodge design is spacious, it exudes relaxation and tranquility.
The rooms are fantastic. Bathrooms stunning. Housekeeping is excellent, everything from making sure the rooms are super clean, replenished and each evening turndown service.
The staff in general were amazing. On arrival we were met by Lucas, and his accommodating attitude really set the tone for our stay. The staff and especially management really really care and it shows.
You are made to feel so welcome.
The quality of the cocktails and food was a delight.
The pools ... there is No better ... They are the BEST!
The view of Mnemba Island can not be beat.
The lodge is built on a small cliff so at low tide you can wander around the rock pools, its truly beautiful.
They have an on site diving snorkeling operation. We did a snorkeling trip to Mnemba Atoll Reef... it was a well worthwhile outing.
I can not recommend this Lodge enough. .. It is absolutely fantastic. If you want to relax in a phenomenal chilled atmosphere, THIS IS THE PLACE!

We were moved to Sunshine Marine Lodge after having issues at their sister property (Sunshine Hotel) and we couldn't believe our good fortune! We were arriving in foul moods and the long, bumpy drive back to the hotel was doing nothing to make us feel better. But from the moment we stepped out of the car, all of our troubles melted away!

The view that greets you takes your breath away and everything about this hotel shows care and attention to detail. The rooms are gorgeous (caveat: as compensation for our trouble at Sunshine Hotel, we were given rooms closest to the water, though there can't be a bad room in the place with the way it's set up), it's well-managed, it's quiet, the staff is exceptionally friendly, the food is fancy, the pools are luxurious, the tour options are great...the list goes on. We loved that it wasn't right on the beach - we aren't "toes in the sand" kind of people anyway and with the fierce winds that blow on this side of the island, it was great to NOT have fine sand blasting us (and our food and beds) each evening.

This place is great for active types, which is nice to find at a resort. The pool is 20 meters long, so it's good for laps, and you can feel the burn in your hamstrings just walking around the grounds. We don't dive and we didn't snorkel on this occasion, but I would recommend walking at low tide or taking a mountain bike (they are free and in good condition) over to the neighboring white-sand beach. It's gorgeous! There's a section that's primarily a fishing beach, but keep going around the bend and you'll have about a kilometer of wide white sand mostly to yourselves. As some fisherman did walk by once, I felt more comfortable keeping my t-shirt and capris on, but I've lived in Muslim and otherwise-conservative countries and I'm very-aware of the stares that a bikini can generate when you're off the beaten track. That might have been unnecessary, but I did plenty of sunbathing back at the pools anyway!

Given the long trip back to this place (about 20-30 minutes from a paved road, another hour from the airport and Stone Town), I would recommend staying in a more central section of the island for a night or two, then moving out here and just staying put. All of your needs will be well-met!!

Note: I marked this as a family trip, but we're all adults. Sunshine Marine Lodge doesn't allow small children, which (no offense) suited us just fine!

I chose the sunshine marine lodge as a place to relax for a week after summiting mt. kilimanjaro. and i wasn't disappointed. gorgeous location, friendly staff, room was lovely. i have no complaints! If you want to learn how to dive then the Divepoint school is brilliant, staff are friendly, helpful and great teachers. highly recommend!
Waste the day reading, day dreaming or walking along beneath the cliff to the gorgeous remote beach beyond.

Room Tip: all the rooms have a sea view so i don't see any benifit in choosing a specific room. they'r...

Have just returned from our trip over xmas and NY with our stay at Sunshine.
The staff were great and we felt really looked after. The design and layout of the grounds is fantastic, with a beautiful view out towards Mnemba island.
Divepoint Diving school is a great asset for the hotel, as the diving is superb.

Room Tip: Request down by the shorefront if available

We are a family of 5 who stayed for 3 nights over the Christmas to New Year bridge following a week of safari. We visited Stonetown on arrival by plane in Zanzibar for a couple hours, which was adequate and then arrived at the resort after dark. The morning surprised us with the amazing view of the clear ocean from our balcony, a pleasant walk along the beach to the beautiful white sand beach, and a short boat ride out for nice snorkeling on the reef. Having the dive center on site is a plus, especially if you want to learn to scuba dive. Though the resort was at full capacity, the only time we felt it was a bit crowded was the wait for our meal. The service staff was excellent and the food was quite nice. I would definitely recommend this location for anyone who does not need active night life and just the beauty of the ocean side.

We were 3 nights in the Sunshine Marine Lodge and enjoyed it in all parts. Friendly staff; nice, clean rooms; great pool, excellent food. Its a nice place to calm down and to get rid off the busy life. The beach during low tide invites for long walks and during flood to snorkel. A snorkeling trip to Mnemba was perfectly organized with the divine point team and they reacted professional when I was biten by a jellyfish/fire coral. They were suddenly prepared with vinegar and antihistaminic creme to treat my pain. Thanks a lot for this!
The Sunshine Marine Lodge is definitely a great place to stay on Zanzibar!

What a fantastic end to a Safari. The place is a small little paradise at the end of a dirt road. The food was perfect and the rooms are very nice. I was a bit unsure since there was no AC, but I can attest that there is no need for it. The room was comfortable for our entire stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Panorama Suite. It was very nice and very large.
