A beautiful beach resort. The pool and sea being only a few yards apart. All of the staff very attentive and helpful. A fantastic place to relax.
The rooms were comfortable, spacious and kept clean. The "beach boys" were kept at bay by the Masai security guards otherwise they could have been a problem.
I've been to Africa before and I would say this resort was better than I'd experienced before. I would have liked to have been given the choice of an indoor restaurant but I should have researched the resort a little more in depth. I expect to be confronted by flies but find it hard to ignore them as others seem to be able to do. It did seem strange though that sealed pats of butter were in covered containers but "open" food left uncovered. We stayed on an all inclusive basis and were not disappointed with the food/drinks on offer. I was however surprised that the soft drinks in the room mini bar were chargeable but not at the bars. We could have done with tea making facilities in the room as well.
Overall though, we had a great time and would recommend the Sultan Sands to anyone.
We are looking at a safari next year in Tanzania and will not hesitate in booking this hotel for a few days after.

Room Tip: All good but try for a room near to the pool and beach.

This is a small resort with lovely beachfront location & beautiful grounds. It is very good value if on all inclusive package. Overall we had a relaxing stay & would say it was a 3-4* hotel & compared to other places we have stayed in Africa was as we expected so were not dissapointed.

The rooms are clean, spacious with extra large comfortable beds & small seating area plus balcony. Sadly no tea or coffee facilities & a very small old tv.

Very nice clean pool with large slopeing entry at one end which was lovely to bask on. Between the pool & the beach was a sanded area raised overlooking the beach with plenty of loungers & helpful pool staff.

Restaurant has tasty & varied buffet meals with live cooking stations serving, fish, sea food, grilled meat & pasta.

Excellent small spa. I had 2 quality treatments (facial & reflexology) which are among the best I have had.

The beach is ideal for walking along, clean broad & long. The tide does go out a long way at times but there are tide timeings in reception & when tide was in it was wonderful to swim in with very few rocks etc underfoot. There are beach sellers but after there initial approach left us alone when asked. We visited Masai Mike's shop(see pic).

We looked around the sister resort Blue Bay but prefered Sultan Sands pool & beach layout.

Note - We were the only British couple there during our 8 day stay, a high proportion of guests are Italian & German however this was not a problem for us at all.

Only negatives points were the service from bar staff & waiters who were inconsistant to say the least. A female restaurant manager was extreemly rude & unprofessional on several occasions. Tipping helped - sometimes!

We have been in this hotel for three weeks and felt as a part of a family. It´s a very beautiful place to relax and the food is grandious and presented in a perfect way. The staff is very friendly, well educated and speaks several languages. We enjoyed our stay very much and would go there again.

My husband and I spent a week a Sultan Sands with a couple of friends of ours. In comparison to other similar "paradise-island-getaways", unfortunately Sultan Sands did not meet our expectations.

Let's start with the beach. You cannot actually sunbathe right on the beach, they have a few steps down from where you can sunbathe to go down to the beach. There are huge tidal changes during the day which means that there is hardly any ocean left to swim in between 11 am to 4 pm. The alternative is the hotel pool, which is really nice, but it's a long way to travel to Zanzibar just to swim in a pool.

The rooms are really nice, well cleaned, spacious etc.

The buffet dinner is ok. Different themes every night and a nice setting around the pool or on the beach.

The staff on the other hand is very slow, and don't have the sence of customer service you would expect anywhere else, even in a two star hotel in other countries. Most of them are friendly, but not everyone is very helpful. You get different answers from different staff and reception members, which means some people get better assistance than others.

At dinner if we wanted to sign our bill when we were finished, we had to ask several people in the staff before getting the bill. When we finally received the bill it was very often wrong, even though we might only have ordered one drink each. The waitor then had to go and get us a new bill, so most nights this process took ages.

At breakfast, when seated, we were asked if we'd like coffee or tea. When we had ordered we went to get our breakfast and sat down to eat it. Although we could never eat together because pancakes, waffles etc. took more than 5-7 minutes each to make! Then went for another round, reminded a waitor that we were still waiting for our tea. Ate our second round of breakfast, and 40 minutes later when we had finished our breakfast we received the tea. I know we were there to relax, but this got ridiculus.

Room Tip: Try getting a room close to the pool/restaurant/beach area, otherwise you will walk up and down the...

we arrived late at around nine and we were told it was time for dinner,so after checking in we went for dinner, believe me it was being served right at the beach. And then after that every dinner used to served in different and exiting locations within the resort.
