All I can say about this hotel is that it is excellent!
The food, the service, the rooms, the grounds, the ambience, the massage parlour! Excellent!
It's a great place to stay for an all inclusive package.
Very relaxing, great views. All in all a great vacation spot.
The food at the beach bar is great! make sure you try their salads and pizzas.

Things to note ( before to get disappointed)
- The hotel is quite some distance from the airport ( approx. 50 min)
- You will have to take a golf cart like thing to go their private beach( no beach on hotel front)
- Might not be the best spot for families with young children ( they may be bored out of their minds)
- If you get there before check in time - they might be a bit upset about that and probably make you sit and wait.

Dear Savannah

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. I have taken the liberty of sharing your positive compliments and comments to the rest of the team; especially on the food, services, rooms, grounds, ambience, and the massage parlour. I am delighted that you found the hotel to be of most convenience to you during your stay.

I do apologize for any inconveniences you encountered at the check in upon your arrival. Our staffs always follow the procedure by making the guests comfortable even the time guests arrive early before checking time.

In regards to activities for children, we have a kid’s plan on a weekly basis, of which you will find an activity plan upon your arrival. We provide different activities to make sure they don’t get bored during their stay. As for Gabi Beach accessibility, we have consistence transportation with Golf Cars which run every 15 minutes from and to the beach. Some of the guests prefer walking to enjoy the fresh air as well as the beauty of our landscape.

Should you find yourself back in Zanzibar, please do not hesitate to contact us, would be more than delighted to welcome you back!

Best Regards

i do not normally do all-inclusive (prefer a little adventure and independence), but we did so at the Melia for a friend's birthday weekend, and I could not have been more impressed. superb, spacious, adventurous rooms. nice location and vast grounds. truly excellent food. universally attentive and friendly and switched-on staff. top-notch facilities - gym, spa, pools, tennis, etc. very nice adjacent beach, ideal for swimming, lounging and late night parties. excellent value for money - in fact, probably the best value stay I have had anywhere, given the quality and quantity of the facilities, service, food, drink, etc.

In October I went to Zanzibar for a workshop (paid for) and ended up at the Melia Hotel. The workshop lasted three days and was held at the Melia Hotel. The service at the hotel was really good and the staff was really friendly. The conference facilities were also top notch with a large conference room as well as smaller group working areas. The rooms were excellent and very exclusive. The hotel doesn't have a beach, but 1KM down the road from the hotel is a nice sandy beach (Ggabi Beach). It's about one hour drive from the airport and a bit remote.

Melia is a great resort overall and a good choice for families, groups of friends or solo travellers. Couples may want something smaller and more initimate.
We were on a All-inclusive board basis, however it is worth noting that there are two categories, standard and premium AI. The premium level includes more selection for drinks, room service, and dining options at the other restaurants.

Food (4/5) - The vegetarians in our group struggled at dinner time apart from the Indian night. Good selection otherwise.
Rooms (5/5) - Two showers and a bathtub. Also his and hers sinks. A big comfy bed. Lots of channels on Sony flatscreen TV. Mini bar in fridge disappointing - only soft drinks - no beer.
Swimming pool (4/5): The pool could have been a bit bigger considering that the beach is separate from the hotel. The service from the pool bar is slow and not always accurate with medium sized orders. Pool team are friendly and run water aerobics and are also happy to play table tennis or darts with you. There are some fishes near the jetty and you can snorkel there in the morning while the tide is high.
Bars (3/5): As mentioned above, the service from the bars in the hotel is slow. The jetty is a nice place to have a drink after sunset, however it would benefit from some music and bit more atmosphere. The Library bar is as described a quiet place and not suited to groups of people looking to chat over a few drinks.
Beach (5/5): Gabi beach is lovely - long strip of fine sand with calm shallow water (even during high tide). There is a fair bit of seaweed that washes up but they have a team of people raking it away. To get to the beach it is a 15min walk from the hotel or a 5min buggy ride, however the wait can be long. The sun beds are of good quality and plentiful. Would have been nice to be able to order drinks from the sun beds rather than going to the restaurant. Pizzas were excellent in their authentic wood oven. Catch of the day and chips was also good. Beach volleyball with the hotel staff is good fun and highly recommended!
Spa (N/A): did not use so cannot comment.

Room Tip: Would recommend the ground floor rooms in blocks 15 to 17.

Dear Raj247

Thank you for taking the time to share the experience of your recent stay at Melia Zanzibar. It has a great value for us and we are more than pleased with that.

Regarding the rooms; in each room, we have two showers and bathtubs, so the guest can have choice to use either the shower outside or the bathtub, because most of our guests are couple and that is why you find most of the rooms having two showers.

On the entertainment part; we have the theme of the night every day and night in our restaurants accompanied with entertainment of the day. In regards to vegetarian meals; we have a professional Indian Chef and his team who caters all needs for the vegetarian guests and we are happy to learn that they touched your desires.

Concerning the Mini Bar; we serve soft drinks for the All-Inclusive guests in their rooms but if it happens any of our All-Inclusive guest needs beers, then they have to make an order, of which the room service is available 24/7 to refill the mini bar with beers. Unfortunately your package allowed only soft drinks.

I appreciate for your opinion on the main pool; the structure was made considering that we have guests using it and other to use Gabi Beach. I am very sorry that you experienced the slow service at the Pool Bar. Basically the orders take about 20 – 30 minutes depending on the numbers of guests we have at one time. Pool team are always giving their best to make sure the service delivered is to the guest’s satisfaction.

It is amazing that you loved Gabi Beach, I am grateful to inform you that, at Melia Zanzibar we have a professional team which make everything possible to exceed our guest’s expectations. Their satisfaction is our step tools we carry along with.

We can’t wait to have you back with us, perhaps for your next holiday as we are at your entire disposal.

With Kindest Regards

My wife and I had the pleasure to stay in this resort. Great place with great food. Gabi Beach is the highlight in our opinion.

Most resorts on the island are runned by Italians (famous for food but not so famous for hospitality!!) but now think they got some competition with Melia.

If you want sun, relax, beach and comfort in a tropical destination then I only can recommend this hotel.

One query: The jetty lacks a bit of entertainment!

Dear Endax0815

May I first of all take this opportunity to extend my sincere gratitude for selecting Melia Zanzibar as your preferred hotel for your recent holiday. On behalf of the team I truly appreciate your honest and positive feedback.

As you mentioned that, most of the Island Resorts run by Italians here in Zanzibar. It is very true but I would like to assure you that, we are very unique; we have our own style which differentiates us from others.

In regards to entertainments, we have an entertainment plan on a weekly basis, of which you will find an activity plan upon your arrival. We provide different entertainment during dinner time to our Main Restaurant according to the theme of Nights.

We are very proud that you were the one to exceed your expectations with our outstanding services. We do believe that you will be a good ambassador to your friends and family telling them about Melia Zanzibar. This is truly a thumb up endorsement for us which we carry along.

We wish to welcome you again soon.
