I was given a suite and was amazed. Outdoor & indoor showers. Bathtub pristine enough to actually use. Perfect mattress. HUGE living room & dining room. Gourmet food. Awesome pool. Incredibly large property. It was perfect and I will 100% return, potentially for my honeymoon :)

My wife and I spent 14 days at Malia Resort and Spa. The hotel facilities was grate. Spacious rooms with all you need. I had a couple of very good Thai massages at the Spa. My opinion is that the food could have been better - bland. Service was at times very slow. Beach was good - but online a couple of hours pr day - depending on tide.

it was my first time in this hotel and i had come with my wife for our honeymoon. it was a very pleasant experience all there staff were very welcoming from abdallah who greated us and welcomed us to the hotel and Monica the receptionist plus azma the hotel pool restaurant waiter
they were all welcoming and friendly .

they upgraded us to a hotel suite which was a very good room with 2 balcony and it was a full board plan with unlimited food and drinks.

they have a private beach called GABI BEACH which is part of melia about 10 to 15 min drive by a golf car and they have a private restaurant inside that location which a plus point for us because when we went there they provided us with towels and soft drink when we arrived at the beach

the area was amazing, the food overall was good

our room location was good too and a good view from the balcony

this time around the year is not a high a season so for the first 2 nights it was really good me and my wife felt like we were the only ones staying in the hotel but then

plus they have the jetty lounge which is open in the evening for dinner and drinks during the day time but reservation for dinner is required and its a very pleasant place next to the ocean with a beautiful view especially during the day time

thank you melia and to all your staff for making mine and my wife's stay beautiful and pleasant

Room Tip: the suites are amazing room and spacious room they have 3 types of shower a) regular shower room...

My husband and I have just arrived from Zanzibar after spending 7 nights at the Melia Zanzibar resort & Spa for our Honeymoon.

The hotel representatives did as much as they could in order to make us feel well treated and at ease.
We were given a double upgrade to a Zanzibar suite and we could also experience a romantic dinner at their stunning gourmet restaurant Aqua.

Everyday was a joy, the hotel property is vast and green. When we arrived I immediately felt in a tropical holiday, the palms, the coconuts, the emerald ocean. We walked directly to the jetty along the bridge and had the spectacular tapas menu! which was part of the all inclusive! Paella! oh glorious seafood paella! and this was just the beginning!
The hotel has 5 gorgeous restaurants so we could eat at a different one every day. Regarding the beach, Gaby beach is at about 5 minutes from the hotel and you can go on a cute golf car that transferred you every 15 minutes. The road is very beautiful and it is an experience to get there with a driver singing Hakuna Matata!!!! Once there you have the white sands beach at your disposal! you can do kayaking if the tide is high, swimming, sunbathing, or simply drinking all inclusive cocktails at the beach bar restaurant. Lunch is served until 17h00!!!! and the last transfer back is at 18h00.

The rooms are very ample and the housekeepers decorate them with local flowers daily! We also got different confectionaries every night.

The food was something that really impressed me since buffet can many times be disappointing. Melia has the best chefs on the island. In the the 7 nights we could try Arabic, Swahili, Spanish, Mediterranian, Asian, Indian food and great sea food among others and it was well prepared and very tasty.

It is so important to feel at home when you are not, but to also feel spoilt!!

Well done Melia! Hope to come back soon!

My wife and I spent 7 nights as honeymooners at Melia Zanzibar in February 2014. What an unforgettable experience. After a hassle-free pickup from the airport we arrived to an upgrade from terrace room to suite. Said suite was more than ample, in fact, more so than any suite I've stayed in before.
Cleaning services happened at some strange times at the beginning of our stay, but the staff catched on about our comings and goings in a day or so. Their work was efficient and neat, and they with new flower arrangements through the entire suite every day.
Being on the east side of the island, Melia is at a distance from the capital, Zanzibar Town, and Stone Town, getting to many attractions on the island therefore involves transfers of an hour or so, but it also means a tranquil setting with a beautiful and quiet beach only a few minutes away by golf car.
There's so much to do at the hotel that leaving it to explore the rest of the island sometimes almost felt like a chore. Relaxing by the pool with a drink, going to gym or exercising in the pool, playing a game of tennis or badminton, we never twiddled thumbs.
The jetty restaurant, set about 200m out into the Indian Ocean, is a real treat, with beautiful views and with tapas served Fri-Sun.
We also spent a lot of time on Gabi Beach, where you can laze around on a deck chair all day or have a cocktail with your feet in the sand.
We went on an all-inclusive package and found the hotel to be generous. The all inclusive menu was ample (I remember about 5 different types of whiskeys, for example) and different theme nights (e.g. Mediterranean, bbq and Indian) at the buffet dinner at the main restaurant (Spice) meant you could never get bored with the food.
I would highly recommend the romantic dinner for two for couples - a five-course meal in a romantic, private setting at one the restaurants - Aqua.
Melia Zanzibar definitely gets my thumbs up.

Room Tip: Aim for rooms at the north of the resort if you want to be a bit more secluded, but look south, towa...

We went in expecting great, We got phenomenal!! Let me backtrack. We booked the Romance pavilion room, not cheap but looked great, so since it was our honeymoon I thought worth it.. But as we got there, they did us an upgrade to a villa.. O My God, it was stunning.. Massive Villa, beautifully decorated, Private pool overlooking the Ocean.. Both of us were all but in dreamland. Add to that they gave us a Premium all inclusive package, so everything was free, I mean everything.. Including Bar, Room Service, all restaurants!!.. Even had our own personal cabana on the beach.. A must do!! 24/7 butler.. Loved It...

So if in doubt, def go here. If you are on honeymoon they will upgrade you, so book the romance pavilion room, which itself is awesome and then off to the villa you go!! Thank you Melia, you guys Rock!!

Note- people have said in the reviews that the beach is too far!!, it's like a 3 min golf cart ride, that the hotel provides for free, so get over it!! In any case you are in the ocean with all the views at all times..

We had an excellent honeymoon week at Melia Zanzibar. The hotel rooms and facilities are great, the service is excellent, the food and wine is good overall.

We stayed in one of the villas, which has a private pool and a butler. The standard is great. We had occasion to see some of the standard rooms and they are also holding a high standard. They only issue with the standard rooms seems to be the lack of wifi.

During our stay we only had two minor issues:
1. The wireless internet access in our room was cut a number of times due to management considering changing the log in system and possibly charge for internet access. Without notice internet access was cut and we had to request a log in from reception. As it did not work initially it was quite frustrating. It may be worth to check what the deal is for internet access before booking.

2. one of the main restaurants, Spice Market, appears to have a lower hygiene and food safety standard. I was suspect that I caught salmonella from either the eggs or the chicken in the second day and suffered for five days from diarrhea, stomach cramps and nightly fever. The Spice market also has some semi-domesticated cats running around in the food hall.

The best restaurant is Aqua, which serves fairly high standard European food with an Italian focus. Only very few dishes are included in the all inclusive package and one should probably opt for the premium package to have a wider selection.

The pool restaurant serves mainly fast food such as burgers, sandwiches and pizza. It appears good but we never tried it as we preferred a less carb rich diet.

There is also a private beach which is very nice and reached by golf cart. However, it should be noted that it is difficult to actually swim due to the tide and the corrals in the water. The food in the restaurant is fairly good for being at the beach. It ranges from burgers to steaks.

The Jetty restaurant, which is the hut in the sea visible on most pictures, is a charming place. The food is good, but not at the same level as Aqua. The typical dishes are curries or a variety of BBQ dishes. They also offer a snack tappas. We went there once during the week.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. One needs to bring ample amounts of tip money for the waiters. A dollar or 1000 TSH seems to suffice for most services.

If one likes a lazy holiday in the sun combined with good food and wine this is a great hotel. The rooms really hold an excellent standard.
