“A perfect stay”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

We stayed here for six nights. The hotel is set on a cliff above a gorgeous reef and very close to endless white sand beaches (in both directions). The grounds are very large and green making it super easy to relax. The staff are all very helpful and went out of their way to ensure we had a brilliant stay. We ate regularly at the sea food restaurant, Aqua, which is so good we kept going back - worth visiting the restaurant for a romantic and/ or delicious meal even if not staying at the hotel. On Friday nights the hotel organizes a Swahili night on the beach - A beautiful setting, great food and five amazing acrobats as entertainment.

Our room was very spacious with a sunny balcony, comfy bed, outside shower and huge bathroom. Other amenities including two beautiful infinity pools, tennis, table tennis and a well equipped gym. The only slight negative was the very slow internet in the communal areas and in the room (and there is an extra charge for wifi in our room). We would highly recommend the resort and its staff to anyone looking for some luxury whilst in Zanzibar.

We had 5 nights here to round off a 2 week holiday in Tanzania. The hotel is modern and situated about 1 hour from the airport at Stonetown and the main complex as you arrive is large and stylish. The rooms are very well appointed and have approx 11 rooms to a block - all with balconies, the beds have mosquito nets and the bathrooms are enormous. There is no wi-fi in rooms which would have been nice. There are also honeymoon and villas on the site. The pool is large, clean and nicely situated and if you are so inclined water aerobics is held in the morning to rather loud music. There are lots of dining options ... The main buffet, the restaurant at the end of the jetty into the sea and the snack bar by the pool were all included in our package. There is also a further restaurant for those in the premium all inclusive package. The food is good and varied with a European continental feel. The standard all inclusive package is quite adequate with cocktails, beer and wine but the wine choice I thought limited ( 2 reds and 2 whites from Spain and South Africa) which would been OK if the quality of the wine was a little better. There was also a reasonable sparking wine from South Africa on the all inclusive. There is a premier all inclusive which gives a greater range of drinks but. to food. One evening the food is only at the beach and is the one occasion where everyone for the hotel gets together and there is some local evening entertainment. This worked OK but I thought the entertainment rather "false and contrived" and not in keeping with Ramadan and could have been much less commercialised. The guests are mostly from Spain, France and Germany when we stayed with a good number of what was honeymooner couples and a few families. The hotel is no a reef and so there is no swimming from the beach without either walking or taking a golf buggy to the hotel beach some 25 mins walk or 5 min buggy ride. We had a great stay and would recommend Melia hotels but I think this is not for families looking for somewhere to entertain children but for couples and families with older teenage kids who are happy to sit and not nothing very much.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for sharing your feedbacks related to your 5 day stay in Melia Zanzibar.
It has been a great pleasure for us to welcome you in our Resort during your holiday in Tanzania.
We are pleased to read that you have been overall impressed by the Hotel & rooms’ facilities and our varied dining options, considering our All Inclusive a nice option to enjoy all of them. On the other hand, we regret to know your discontent concerning the limited wine list and its quality in the All Inclusive package. Please, be ensured that we do always provide with the finest products, and the etiquette choice is in term of local and international blends. Our Premium Package gives access to further privileges, such as dinner in our a la carte restaurant AQUA and more wines and cocktails selection.
Regarding the evening entertainment, we are glad to know that you enjoyed our Swahili night in Gabi Beach and we do really appreciate your respect and attention concerning Ramadan festivity. In this regard being in the hospitality business, we were allowed from the local government to lead shows to entertain our guests.
Regarding the beach, our Gabi Beach is our “private” beach (actually no beach are private in Zanzibar, but due to our location we have no outsiders coming to our beach) reachable by our golf car service. The place is set to relax, chill out and ideal to enjoy a cocktail and lunch overlooking the Ocean.
Our resort is suitable for every kind of guests, honeymooners, couples and families from many different countries and we always do our best to satisfy all of them in accordance to each single preference to create tailor made experiences.
Nevertheless, we are proud to know that we were able to make your stay enjoyable and that our hospitality reached your expectations.
Looking forward to welcome you back in Melia Zanzibar or any other Melia Hotels International properties.
Warm Regards,
Nicolas König | General Manager

The hotel has changed ownership and names as it is common with many hotels... First impression is a lovely front office, stylish, chick with amazing staff... It gets better with immaculate well kept gardens and well maintained walkways. The dinning and meals couldn't have been better!
The rooms! Sadly the bedrooms are somewhat on the smaller side, and would have preferred a double bed and not tiny twin beds. But the big blow is the Bathroom! A must visit for bathroom lovers! I reckon it's bigger than the bedroom, and some rooms come with an outside shower too! I think the focus is on the bathrooms not the bedroom... Personally I'd prefer white towels... The beach closes at 6pm, which is a disappointment, but the jetty is a good option too! If you fancy a stroll and some peace and quiet, opt for rooms furthest for the main building...

We recently stayed in the Melia for our honeymoon following a safari and we didn't want to leave! Like many of the reviews we found the food excellent - a wide variety of choice and we loved the themed nights at spice (esp Asian and Swahili at the beach), the food at the beach, pool and jetty bar was also excellent and nice for a lighter option to buffet. The staff were outstanding, a special mention to Aggrey at the pool and Adam in spice - both we armed every day with lovely smiles and would do anything to make your day as easy as possible! The grounds of the hotel we maintained to a high standard and the rooms (we were in a standard) were cleaned daily to high standards. We would absolutely love to come back and hopefully will be able too!!
