“Lovely first stop”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

After a long midnight flight and hellish transfers with exhausted kids, Breezes was like an oasis of cool ocean winds, spices and flowing fabric, lush gardens and endless white beaches! We felt like we had arrived in paradise. Rooms were fine - nothing special, but fine with private patio with handy rack for wet costumes. But who stays in their room? We loved the huge pool, the low tide ramble amongst rock pools full of Moray eels and sea urchins and lovely dinners in the cool breezy dining room. Great water sports centre with big focus on kite surfing. Diving centre excellent. Blue lagoon snorkel trip great. All in all a superb hotel and our kids loved it, and even though we visited 6 hotels, it was a highlight for all of us.

Room Tip: Try for seaside room or upstairs for views

Luxury on the east coast of Zanzibar. Swahili buffet dinner was amazing, disappointed that the entertainment usually lasted 5-10mins (dancers advertised for 9:30 performance, got down there at 9:35 and was already finished for the night). Only place we stayed in Zanzibar where you had to pay for wi-fi. Meals and drinks reasonably priced but are delicious! Beach is very dirty with seaweed. All spa services are booked out in advance so book before you go (4 day wait for a massage). Rooms, atmosphere, staff, service - all absolutely fantastic!

After traveling for a few days arriving here was an absolute delight. The attention to detail, great customer service and sparkling white sand beach was precisely what we needed.

The room was very big for two people, everything worked (a rarity in my travels!), the pool was lovely and the ocean was perfect. Our only complaint was that while there was PLENTY of food, it wasn't anything special. We had hoped, and expected, to see much more local flavour and seafood given the location. Regardless, we would come back in a hearbeat.

Breezes is an absolutely beautiful resort. Staff are so helpful and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. The decor of the common areas and rooms is outstanding - Arabian style, candlelight, spices....
Breakfast and dinner are wonderful and the evening entertainment is discreet and classy. Local bands and singers and a Cirque du Soleil style acrobat show. Lunch is OK, nothing special, but fine. Beach is beautiful, pool area is lovely, loads of stuff to do - kite surfing, reef walking, scuba, etc.
What really makes Breezes, though, is the staff. They are, without exception, awesome.
I recommend a visit to the local village, where many of the staff live. The hotel will arrange it for you.

This was the final pit stop after our safari in Tanzania, and what can I say?

The cuisines is EXCEPTIONAL, the service is impeccable and the staff are exemplary.

The rooms do not have a TV, but then they shouldn't. This is the type of place a person escapes to, allowing their mind to reflect on adventures gone and expeditions to follow.

The wifi is chargeable but again this is a secondary issue, as if you need to constantly be connected to the 'outside world' then you should go to New York.

The hotel offers varying types of entertainment in the evenings, and the dive centre can keep the over active occupied during the day.

The pool is situated near a good restaurant/ bar and you are never far from reception who can organise an external trip.

The spice tour was a particular highlight, and the visit to Stone Town will be an eye opener to the 'un-initiated'.

The people of Zanzibar are open and friendly and this is magnified by the staff at this hotel, who attend to your every whim, echoing their ethos of Hakuna Matata.

This was my first visit to the island, and something tells me it won't be the last. Based on that, I can assume that this will not be the last time the Breezes welcomes my wife and I.

We spent a week at Breezes after a safari last year and I completely agree with the other reviews - relaxing and lovely setting on the Zanzibar coast. Our room was beautiful with a great balcony and sea view. The service was excellent and the restaurant food was very good (although it is more world cuisine than traditional). There are 2 things to note though: firstly, trips out are very pricey if organised by the hotel and secondly, you are quite isolated here, it's not easy to go and explore the beach areas or find local restaurants. This isn't a criticism of the hotel, just if you're used to more of an exploring holiday (which we are) this is quite different. If so, then maybe combine Breezes with a couple of days staying in Stonetown. If you're just up for relaxing at a comfy hotel though, well this is perfect (and that's exactly what it advertises itself as).

Room Tip: If you can, opt for a suite, as they have a lovely big balcony and sea views.
