“Echo Beach Hotel..PERFECT”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

Just returned from six days at Echo Beach Hotel. It was everything and more that we were looking for after a week on safari. The owners, Sue and Andrew are wonderful people. Andrew is a fabulous chef and host. We went into Stone Town with him one day, as he did his errands we visited a few places he suggested. They are exceptional people.
The hotel sits on the most beautiful beach, you feel like you have gone to heaven. The rooms are comfortable and clean, not fancy. The staff are always happy and friendly. Perfect way to end a great trip to Tanzania!!! Thanks

Room Tip: We were in Room 4. I think they are all about the same size with views of the ocean.

We ate twice at Echo Beach restaurant and those evenings will remain as great memories. There is no TV there, which is great 99% of the time, but as on that occasion we wanted to watch an all-important World Cup match the owners generously gave us their own living room. After the defeat we consoled ourselves with the food which was excellent. The atmosphere is very friendly and at the same time quite sophisticated. Romantic even. Two days later we returned. It's not the cheapest place in town but the price/quality ratio is very good. Definitely to be recommended.

The hotel is relaxing, and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The food, however, is what distinguishes this hotel among its class. The food and drink are really good - so save room.

Aside from the staff and the food/drink - the hotel is not luxurious, but is comfortable and adequate.

I give this an overall very good instead of average for the great service and the food and beverage and the price point. It is a very good value - especially if you enjoy food and want a laid back, approachable atmosphere in a nice beach setting.

Stayed here for a week, a fabulous beachfront hotel. Clean, comfortable rooms. Excellent service with friendly staff. Easy to arrange excursions on the island. Great cocktails. I cannot stress how good the seafood was here. A great experience.

i was looking for a place to chill, relax and re-charge the batteries after a hectic work period, Zanzibar was for me. I found this place on Trip Adviser and.............

Rather than bore you with brochure comments the place is simply - Class

The place is well run by the owners and the staff, Nothing was too much trouble and the service was top. The scenery and beach was lush. The food was absolutely yummy and of a standard that was OMG Scrumptious- Top restaurants all over the world would be challenged to produce this quality consistently, everything was homemade.

Great place im now relaxed and ready to go, All the team were perfect but i have to give a special thanks to Sue, Andrew and Susan for making it memorable. I WILL BE BACK

Room Tip: by the pool is a must, waking up to see the pool and the ocean is breathtaking

We stayed at Echo Beach in march, end of season and besides us there was only one couple, so we had the feeling of being almost alone in paradise! We were welcomed with a lot of heartiness by Sue and Andrew, the owners. This heartiness even increased the next seven days, while having nice talks at the bar, the beach or after dinner. The dinner was extraordinairy delicious, to say in Mary Poppins words: hypercalifragilisticexpialigetic!!! Andrew, once cook in france, took us into other spheres: we enjoyed the fresh, spicy, healthy and absolute fantastic catches of the day. It is no problem if you have any wishes, thanks a lot for the swahili coconut sauce to our omlett for breakfast! And thank you so much for the jam, Sue! The service is good and breakfast was until 10.00 we even stayed at the table often talking until 11.00, was no problem at all. The location is just like paradise, take a look at the pictures, no need to say more! In march there is seagrass coming from the sea to the beach but also many shells, so for shell-collectors more than perfect! No beachboys! You can easily walk alone as women for hours at the beach, hakuna matata! You can recharge your batteries at the beach or in the pool, everything is very clean, the rooms have aircondition and one liter of water is inclusive everyday. The decoration is made with love and care!
There are mosquitos during sundowner, as usual, but Zanzibar is malaria--free since a few years, says WHO. Also like usual in africa, a power-breakdown can happen sometimes for one minute, but it is very romantic during dinner, having your candles light only.... If you are dog-lovers, the three dogs mbaja, mecki and rosi are very kind and like being stroked. They are very smart and realize, if the person likes them or not. If yes, they accompany you at the beach and relax next to you. If not, they will stay away from you. I really loved them, after our game drives at least we had three animals around us :-) there is a small boutique there where you can buy some cangas, shirts, collars, sculpures etc for good prices.
So from our side an absolute yes to spent your holiday there, if we will visit Zanzibar again, we will for sure stay at Echo Beach!
Dear Sue and Andrew, Mbaja, Mecki, Rosi and the whole team: Thank you so much for your heartiness and incredible hospitality!
Warm regards, Caroline and Joachim

We were recommended to stay at Echo Beach by Nick from Safari and Beach after he had chatted to us re our requirements and past experiences in East Africa. Suffice to say it was just great: understated and lacking in glitz but that is part of the charm. It actually reminded me of the relaxed atmosphere at the Driftwood Club in Malindi 40 or more years ago with a mix of Lamu thrown in for good measure and as such suited us and our friends just fine. Andrew and Sue could not have been kinder or more welcoming. We were allowed to watch the Six Nations Rugby on their television and they even sent one of the staff in search of fresh prawns for our final lunch. Speaking of food we never had a remotely duff meal and if I stayed there for longer I would be the size of a tank. The menu changed daily and whilst not extensive there was always plenty of choice for us and I am sure the kitchen could accommodate the odd special request if necessary........ Andrew supervised the kitchen and obviously knows what he is doing with quality, presentation and variety. I honestly think we had the best food to be found at very reasoanble prices. All the staff were happy, smiling and helpful without fail and we would recommend Echo Beach to anyone wanting a casual, laid back time. If you want grovelling obsequious attention, false promises and overly-exotic menus then perhaps you should look elsewhere but for hospitality, interesting food, a warm welcome, lovely, clean pool, looooooong beach and cold beers Echo Beach is hard to beat.

Room Tip: Might be worth considering if you want to be close to the reception, bar and restaurant or a little...
