Great staff!Great place (20 meters from the beach). Very basic hotel rooms but clean.
However, on such a paradise place that s all you need.
I hope to be able to come back one day:)
No fitness center and swimming pool but honestly who goes in Zanzibar to use fitness and swimming pool?

Room Tip: Our room was C and had air conditionning and also a fan (the air conditionning is stopped during the...

I rarely rate a place excellent and, although S&O wasn't flawless, the professionalism, hospitality and attentiveness of the staff earned it an "excellent." ---- that and the rooms have air con!

We were already in Paje when we called Savanna and Ocean about a room (we were trying to escape a terrible place we had stayed the night before). The owner sent a cab to pick us up (on the house) and arranged a room for us right away.

The staff here is SO personable and friendly, always doing whatever it takes to keep the guests happy.

Our stay did have its bumps but they were always resolved by management in a timely and reasonable manner (when our laundry was left in the rain, they didn't hesitate to rewash the clothes that got stinky, when a few tours we had booked ended up as larger groups than we had paid for, the price was adjusted, etc.).

Aside from those few issues - this place was incredible! Rooms have air-con, screens and mosquito nets. They are cleaned daily.

Our bathroom was spacious and always stocked with plenty of TP and hand soap and there was always hot water.

S&O has its own little strip of private beach (on the water) with chairs, umbrellas and chair pads. Each day, they send you to the beach with clean, new beach towels.

The food at the restaurant is very good as is the complimentary breakfast in the mornings.

What a great value for the money

We loved our stay here and were so sad to leave. We miss it and all the great staff.

I definitely recommend a stay here - Able, Lillian, JZ, Eddy and the rest of the staff will take great care of you.

It may not have a water front but it is 150m from the beach and has its own bit of private beach. For kite surfers, the centres are about 0.5km along the beach. The hotel is friendly and relaxed. Nice upstairs lounge for hanging out, music, TV, wifi, cold beer. Good sized rooms and bathrooms arranged around the common area. The food is unexciting but we found a small local restaurant on the beach which served excellent octopus. And the hotel directly opposite has a beach bar and a good restaurant. So if on a limited budget, take full board, if you have a bit more, B&B (good breakfast) and try eating elsewhere. One evening there was a power cut and there is generator so no fan and no AC, a hot and humid night! The staff also ask you not to use AC between 2200 and 0600.
The staff organised the activities we wanted to do. If you go snorkeling be sure to see the starfish (but watch out for spiney urchins). We hired bikes on day: poorly maintained children's size bikes but we made it 10km each way to the forest.

Its not luxury or an extraordinary place compared with other places, but on the other hand its better than many average places. All in all its a very nice little hotel that works just fine, everything is clean and the place is lovely with a calm and relaxed atmosphere - a mix of young and old people - mostly scandinavians. The staff is really kind and helpful and easy to get in contact with and in general good service.

You can get better food many other places along the beach, but the food is okay - especially the Burger with chilimayonaise and spicy chicken :-) But like almost every other restaurants in Tanzania you must be patient, because it takes maybe an hour from your order untill you get your food. "Pole, pole" (langsom), but don't stress about it, just make sure, you have enough time. Make sure to visit "The Rock" and other restaurants along the east coast (Paje by Night). (The rock is one hour ride on bicycle - easy to find from the main road up north)

The beach nearby is used by many kite-surfers, but the beach is in general not crowded at all (late december-beginning january). There is bars, but not annoying if you just walk along the beach without listening to bass rhythm from the bars.

A tip: There is no ATM's (money-machines) in Paje (or anywhere else outside Stone Town) and you can't pay with Visa many places (you can do it at Savanna Ocean for 5 % comission) so remember cash!

We stayed for a small week in Savanna and Ocean. It’s a small hotel in Paje. It’s not a luxurious 5 star hotel but more like a really descent bed and breakfast. They don’t have so many rooms and because of that its really cosy and peaceful. They have a small private beach in 2 minutes’ walk from the hotel and it’s really relaxed over there. There are also bars close by the beach (1 minute walk to the left and to the right 5 minutes’ walk, the bar to the left serve allot of alcohol in the cocktails for a good price :-) ).

The food at the hotel is good but after a week you tried almost everything on the menu. However Paje has enough to offer to get some variety. The personnel is really helpful and friendly. If you want to do activities, they will help on a professional manner. I also want to mention that Eddy is great :-) !

For Kite surfers and scuba divers this can be a good hotel to stay because it’s close by the Diving base Buccaneer Diving and close by Paje by Kite.

Price quality ratio is good so I can recommend Savanna and Ocean. What I also liked about Paje was the relaxed way you can walk into other small hotels and eat something or take a dive in the pool if you drink something over there. Paje is also not the biggest tourist place in Zanzibar and because of that it’s really relaxed and authentic. If you want to go to Paradise, go to Paje Zanzibar.

We are a family with four children, 5,7,8 & 11 years, and the kids love the place, the beach, the staff and the food. Safari arranged by Savanna & Ocean, in Arusha, was great experiences for life, the Safari guide Peter was such a good guy. He knew all about the animals, plants and local people, he was very nice to the kids, a good man, you are lucky to meet him if you take this trip!
The staff, at Savanna & Ocean, are very friendly, the rooms are for sleeping, and the social areas are cosy and relaxed.
We love this place, and we are definitely sending our kids to the Danish Adventure School, when they are old enough (If they want to)..
Regards Ingela & Thomas

We wish to inspire our guests with an authentic atmosphere and give them the opportunity to experience the many facets of Zanzibar and Tanzania. Our friendly and obliging staff will make sure that you get exactly what you wish for, out of your stay. We offer you one of the world’s most beautiful beaches, where you can relax and just dream away for a while, we are specialists within a big range of experiences for those who wish to explore that inner adventurer, we have local African art visible everywhere in the hotel area, and we offer short afternoon courses for those who would like to be introduced to the local language, Swahili or if you simply have interest in the Swahili culture in general. ... more   less
