“Paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014

After a very dissatisfying stay in another hotel in Paje, we have booked a "room" (which is not just a room but almost a complete house) at the White Sands for the last day/night of out stay in Zanzibar. The White Sands really is paradise on earth. The villa's are nicely furnished, clean and equipped with everything you could wish for (including fast WIFI and a private pool). Moreover, the staff is very friendly and helpful. The White Sands really brought our vacation to a good end.

I booked in this resort with my 2sons(13/22) for 2nights it's a beautiful resort elegantly refurbished staff were doing their best to show skills in hospitality I booked a 2bedroom villa a sitting &dining area but with open ceiling on the side. Separated from the bedroom which were v beautiful this sitting area wasn't a good ides in my opinion. All kind of insects flying around I Shorten my visit because it was soft opening I wasn't informed earlier Services were it ready. Joumaa one of the managers was v professional in listing to each detail I point it out. The management responded quick &refunded my moneyback so that's why you should wait till the opening if you'd like to get the perfect resort luxury experience. Thank you Joumaa &antoni .

Dear Lina64,

Thank you your valuable feedback.

I apologize that all of the services were not in place yet, we try are best to offer alternatives. To maintain you up to date with the opening, the Spa is completed and the therapists are installed to offer massages. Our sauna is in place, and gardens are blossoming. The restaurant and bar is in full operation, we offer in villa dining on demand. If required, we can organize additional services such as private fitness instructor. Last touch ups divide us from a final opening.

Your helpful comments are taken into consideration as we try to aim for the highest level of proficiency in the industry.

Thank you once again for your engagement we do hope that this was only an invitation for your future stay in Zanzibar.

Kind Regards,

My husband and I spent a week here with our two year old at the end of May. The resort was still in its soft opening phase and as such there was no restaurant or Spa facility. That didn't matter one bit! Who needs a restaurant when you can have your meals in your own private dining room! Who needs a spa when you have the beach a few metres from your door and your own pool!

The thought and care put into every detail of this new resort is incredible. The beds are wide and comfortable, there is an outside bath and rainshower, an ipod speaker is available to each villa, every villa has its own coffee machine and fridge in the dining room, there are roof terraces on each villa and swinging beds on the private beach in front of your villa.

The fittings and furnishings are luxurious, the architecture is truly inspired and the location is unbeatable. I honestly cannot think of anything to better.

We were worried that our toddler would get bored but the combination of the beach, the pool and lovely staff to indulge him meant he was exhausted every night. He loved every minute of it! The general manager Antoni even invited his friends who had a two year old also to come and play with our son. Really going above and beyond to keep us happy!

In fact the management team here were superb. Nothing was too much trouble and our every request was dealt with efficiently and courteously. We did have a couple of quibbles associated with a resort that is still ironing out its running but nothing waa too much trouble for Antoni and the delightful Anna.

If you go in the rainy season you will need to take anti malarials and watch out for the mosquitos as there were a few. But even the storms and rain showers were beautiful, enthralling to watch across the Indian Ocean.

All in all this resort is outstanding and pretty good value for money given what the equivalent type of resort would charge in Bali or elsewhere. It is the kind of place that really shows the love and care that the owners have put into developing the land and creating the business.

Please, do yourself a favour and go!

We have stayed at the White Sand Villas 8 nights- and could not have imagined a greater place to spend a relaxing and beautiful beach holiday. Although it was "rain-season" the weather was pretty good and we had an unforgettable time in Paje. The service was really good, very friendly and everybody tried to help you out wherever they could. Due to the fact that the main restaurant and some villas in the back were still under construction, we always had breakfast in our own backyard which was just great like that..all different kind of eggs etc, fresh fruit platters and fresh fruit juices and always a bread basket with several kinds of local bread. Just delicious!!The beachfront villas give you the feeling that you have your own private beach..it was great to spend time on that beautiful white sand or in our own pool in our backyard. the option to rent kitesurf equipment/kayaks/SUPs was awesome too. The water/ and the beach infront of the hotel were simply perfect! Also the lunch and dinner at the hotel was definitely worth the price.

the villas itself were beautiful, huge and really clean. i have seen a lot of nice places so far but this kind of "barefoot luxury" beats everything i have seen so far.

The whole staff was really helpful and everybody tried to help wherever they could. they organized us a trip to go and see monkeys in a jungle and the unforgettable experience to swim with wild dolphins. it was so nice to see that everybody had a smile on his face 24/7.

the two negative things were maybe that i should have proposed to my girlfriend there, cause there wont be a better and more romantic place for that :) and that (once all the villas are done) it will be really tough in the near future to get an open villa there cause it will be fully booked..:)

All in all the trip was just wonderful and i cant wait to go back there!! Big like and thumbs up! Wee done white sand villas! Congrats from Austria!

I spent one week in White Sand Villas with my partner. It was the best way to disconnect from work and enjoy the most of these holidays.
We used to go kitesurfing during the day, and finish the day with a beer in our private villa before enjoying an amazing dinner at the restaurant.
The resort offers you a variety of possibilities to do, so you can really choose on your style of holidays. Some of the days I just wanted to stay in the villa quietly, so I had everything available there (from private pool, to “room service” with super fresh smoothies, or a relaxing bath outdoors). My partner though, was in the sea kiting the whole day, his favorite hobby and apparently the best spot for it.
To sum up, the perfect romantic week in an incredibly beautiful setting.

Overall experience
This amazing hotel is a dream made true by one Family. Its incredible that without having any experience in the hotel industry they have created the perfect hotel experience. Unexpectantly my husband and i found this hotel amongst millions on the net. Because of their commitment to sustainability we choose to go there 3 nights. AMAZING!

The villas
We stayed in our own villa with rooftop, hanging bed, outside bath and shower, our own beachhouse and our own pool! Nestled at the beach within green plants, blue sea and white sand.

Amenities
Because of the soft opening period, the opening will be in June, we had in room dining service. Meaning we could choose our menue and the time, and it was served in our banda, outside or inside as we wished. Breakfast, lunch, tea, dinner, cocktails. We had not to leave our paradise spot. Not once! Only for the daily stroll at the white sand beach, with its most amazing soft sand. You can lear how to kite in their own Kiteschool or can do some daily boat trips. As you wish.

Staff
The staff was very helpful, experienced and very attentive! They presented themselves with their names and were very friendly. We felt like staying at a friends place. We met the owner who told us the amazing story of creating this hotel, we met his daughter who looks after the wellbeing of the guests and his wife who did all the interior design.

Food
Ah and the food- fantastic, yammi and full of surprises. Try the avocado juice!

My husband and i will come back, once a year you need to have this! But we are sure it will be soon very difficult to get a villa there!

Room Tip: All one room villas are at the beach, the bigger villas for families are just a row behind, but have...

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

We stayed during the rainy season but Paje is well located so the occasional rain storm (for the most part) blew over quickly. If in Zanzibar in April, I suggest this area and hotel strongly, the weather was dramatically better than in Stone Town. We had three of five days with perfectly clear skies, our taxi driver noted that it rained in Stone Town all five days.

Most of our days were spent sunning on the villa roof deck, by the pool at the villa or in the very relaxing beach/poolside swing lounger. The memory of reading on the swing in front of your private pool, with a clear view to a green and turquoise sea is the memory I will go to when work gets too stressful.

There are so many places to sun and so many places to cool off (private pool, hotel pool, private outdoor bath & shower and indoor rain shower and of course the Indian Ocean just a few steps away). I was almost overwhelmed with the choice of where to relax. They even have outlets near to the rooftop sun bed, which is shaded, so you can catchup on work from up there too.

Most days and nights we had breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks brought to our villa. Room service arrives very promptly. We usually made a plan, wrote it down and provided it at breakfast for the day, with drink orders and times. We did this by choice, you can call and order at your leisure too. They provide a mobile phone with the number of reception and the staff for you to use.

About thirty minutes ahead of a meal delivery, either the outdoor table or the living room table would be set with wine glasses, water, placemats, etc. and at almost exactly the specified time the order would be delivered to the table. On the occasions we ventured to the beach, our smoothies or drinks & fruit would be covered and kept cool in the fridge with a note on the table of where we could find them when we returned.

Our mini-fridge was nothing short of magic, everything I ordered would just appear in short order, and sometimes so discretely that I hadn't seen anyone deliver it. The staff caught onto our orders and there was always two diet cokes, water, fruit and beer in our fridge. When we consumed one, a new one magically appeared. It takes significant effort to create such magic and we were grateful as it really adds to the stay.

The hotel is family owned and the daughter, Natalia, is a delight and manages the fine tuning of the hotel as it is gearing up for a full opening in June. She's very thoughtful as to the design of the hotel and caring for the environment.

There are still a few snags and kinks to work out, but it didn't disrupt the service or relaxation, so I encourage you to book during the soft opening period. Our only caveat is that the bugs are a bit overpowering in the wet season and the hotel has made an effort to blend with nature, so you will get a few mosquito bites until the balance is fully worked out. But it's a beach, a few bites are par for the course, just bring DEET.

The GM, the FB & rooms director, Priska, and the staff are wonderful. They all speak excellent English, even the cleaning crew speaks at least functional English and everyone is more than happy to help with any ask. They were warm, friendly people and they made the stay that much better. The service alone is worthy of an excellent rating, the location, architecture and focus on relaxation which when into the design push this hotel over the top.

I must add one other tid bit. While there, we met the sweetest kitten, who seemed very domesticated but without a home, more of a stray than a feral cat. We took her in during our stay and were heartbroken to leave her. I looked into adoption but the visa process to the UK was too difficult. She is as sweet and innocent as can be and I ask that should you come across her during your stay that you give her a snack and a pet. I don't normally pet stray cats and am not really a cat person, but she was so innocent and friendly. Having her around really made our experience that much better, so we welcomed here whenever she came to the villa. Please look out for her (and any others). She's clean, kind and as friendly and welcoming as the hotel and the family and staff that run it. If you are around villas 4 or 5, you may see her and I will post a photo too.

You'll love it now and if you stay once the last touches are fixed, you'll enjoy it even more (if that's possible). Enjoy! And please look out for the sweet kitten and the wonderful staff (Natalia, Priska, and the others who are all warm, thoughtful and very interesting & knowledgable to speak with).

On the whole, we highly recommend this hotel.
