Thank you for your hospitality and service we had a wonderful two weeks at Arabian Nights.
Peaceful and quiet with good service, daily cleaning and mending of the room.
It is not a luxurious hotel but very good standard, however, the class fits nice into the surroundings and the hotel really feels like a part of Paje not an isolated resort.
Special thanks to the manager Masoud for helping out with a lost bag and for letting us hang in the lobby and pool almost a whole day when waiting for our transfer.
This place comes highly recommended.

Rooms are very big (garden/pool) and clean, also the bathrooms. Staff is extremely friendly in the entire place. Breakfast was excellent, among the best we've had in Tanzania/Zanzibar. For my birthday my parents had sent an email to the hotel asking for a little surprise for me and offered to pay for it. The hotel didn't accept the money but decorated our room with flowers and a happy birthday card, decorated our breakfast table and sang a happy birthday song - thanks a lot! Really great customer service.
The hotel is in a great location too, right next to where the parties are happening. Would highly recommend this place!

I stayed 2 weeks (03 to 17th Feb 2014) in Arabian Nights Hotel (not the Annex). I stayed in seaview room 102. I cannot comment about the other rooms without seaview and more to the inside, but my room absolutely responded to my expectations. Large, clean, good working refrigerator, AC (although I did not use often). Rooms are cleaned and towels changed every day. In late afternoon staff close mosquitto nets over the bed and spray mosquitto repelliant.
I did only have the breakfast in the hotel (lunch and dinner in other places around). Breakfast was OK, but a bit more imagination would be welcome (every day the same fruit (excellent) with juice, then a plate with eggs or pancakes and 1 piece of bread).
The staff are very friendly and helpful.
For me (kitesurfing & diving) the location was ideal, close to the beach and central to the other hotels, bars and restaurants.
An important tip: there are no cash machines in Paje and you cannot pay with cards in the hotel....so cash is required!
Enjoy it when you go there !
Helmut

Room Tip: Seaview room is recommended

When travelling to Zanzibar , with my wife , this was a kite vacation . We arrived in arabian nights and the staff is very friendly , the beach room ( 101 ) was spacious , clean and had a fabulous view ! Leaving my kite in the front private beach only a few meters from the waterline ( at high tide ) was a Paradise . Service is excellent , altough a pitty for the poor restauration area which has no view on the beautifull beach and was very hot , but like in other reviews there are plenty of restaurants around to have dinner . As breakfast is after a fiew days Always the same we tried two other resorts for breakfast and it was no different ... but all people and staff in paje work hard to make yourself at home . We met the person in charge , which was a friendly man and he also was aware of the poor location of the restauration area , but at the same time it is a good thing as the hotel was a oase of peace in the evening . Mr Sampras ( as we called him ) and his team do all the best to let you have a great vacation , and so we did . I am planning to come back next year , with friends , to have a kite vacation again . Never forget that Zanzibar is an african Island , so does not expect european and american standards , but that is why travelling here makes it more exciting .Thank you again to the whole staff !

Room Tip: all the rooms with sea view are great , rooms in the back near the pool do not have sea view and are...

Nicely located directly at the beach and rooms are nice on pictures, BUT Very dirty and unhygienic - not acceptable at all !!!
Since having dinner there (1st meal upon arrival) we were sick the whole stay. Breakfast a mess, everything "finished for today" for a week and more, around 100 flies eyeing for food and the staff always closed embarassed the kitchen door when a guest looked in - because is was so dirty.

Most Staff and Manager are not educated and partially very rude (throwing towels on the floor instead of handing it over personally).
And when we paid the bill we not even heard a thank you....

-I reaized there are 2 exisiting "Annex Hotels". I now moved my review to the Annex with more reviews in total.

Another case of mistaken identity for many of the reviews on Trip Advisor regarding this place. Be aware that there are two locations very close to each other on Paje Beach, both called Arabian Nights and both owned by the same person. We looked at some of the reviews on here before we went and got confused; now I know why. Most of the reviews on here are for Arabian Nights hotel. We had a walk around and I would say it's probably a 3* hotel - if you look at the pictures people have posted online you will see that it consists of some square bungalows. Arabian Nights Suites and Annex is close by and that consists of circular buildings, some of the 2 storeys. We stayed at the latter, in the Annex, but we never did work out what was the difference between Suites and Annex as there were just 16 rooms.
So this review is about Arabian Nights Annex. Its probably a 4* hotel and is a lot nicer than the Arabian Nights hotel, so check carefully before you book. All rooms have a sea view for example, they don't at the other place. The pool is much nicer and there are two jacuzzis, one at each end of the pool. The area by the pool is also much better too. We had an upstairs room with large balcony and the standard of the room was good (apart from a few minor issues you expect in Africa like the soap dish hanging off the wall of the shower). It was large, with a big bed and efficient A/C. Breakfast was just OK and service quite fast; lots of fresh fruit as you'd expect and the usual eggs any style. we ate in the restaurant the first night we got there; service was quick and staff friendly, but as always, it helps if you pre-order.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view. If you don't mind climbing stairs then upstairs rooms may be quieter...
