We spent two nights in this very nice accomodation. The room was big, clean and there were some good additional touches like two large bottles of free mineral water. The outside areas are lovely as is the garden. Breakfast was good and plentiful and the evening meal also well cooked and filling. Cynthia has a very good staff who have been with her for a long time and the place is well run by the team there.
The ambience is Sunnyside is quiet, serene and peaceful. It is a Christian establishment though all are quite clearly made welcome. There are no TV's or radios or any music so the tone is quite hushed and one almost feels the need to whisper. All that is very relaxing if it suits your holiday style.
The home is also a no smoking and no alcohol establishment and there are signs on each door asking guests to refrain. That is perfectly fine, though we do feel that this should be made very clear to guests in advance on the home page of the web site, which it is not, though some of the links to newspaper articles do mention it.
Overall we could not fault the accomodation, food, setting or help we were given. It was however, a slightly monastic experience that might not suit everyone.

Shanti, the owner takes very well care of the guests. The rooms are very spacious and seems like cleanliness is on the top list of their priority. The location is amazing! Tea estates just a step away from the gate. The railway station is also 10 minutes walking distance and so is the main hub of restaurants. It is a must stay and you get absolute value for money here!

Stayed at sunnyside for 2 nights with some friends. The room was clean an had everything you could need. The owner is a fantastic person, she goes out of her way to make your stay pleasurable and has a rich knowledge of the area.
The Sri Lankan breakfast in the morning is sooooooo good. Best meal we have had in the country. Would highly recommend this place.

This is a family-run bungalow offering the best home-cooked meals in this part of the country. Apart from the fantastic food, the rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. The house and garden, filled with flowering plants, are great for relaxing. The property is located close to Ella town and railway station.

This had the warmth of a real family guest house, and set amongst the trees of it's garden, felt like a retreat.
Cynthia and her family were relaxed and charming, and spoke refreshingly good English.
The food was outstanding, beautifully presented and modestly priced.
After the bustle of a day's walking and exploring, the house was a refuge of calm.

During our trip in Sri-Lanka we wanted to have a mix of experiences in boutique / luxury hotels and more "real" local guesthouses.
Sunnyside was one of our choices after careful consideration of different guesthouses. Cinthya is the perfect host who make you feel at home. This is not luxury, but I didn't miss 4 or 5 star hotels here...this place is simple but has a soul and has its own charme. It is clean, and is conveniently located to the centre of Ella (less than 10 min walk) and Ella railway station. Sunnyside is out of the busy and dusty car traffic, thus you can enjoy the calm of its garden and good air quality (this is a value in Sri-Lanka villages!), Delicious breakfast and dinner! Worth try it!

Our family of 4, 2 adults 2 12 year old children stayed one night at this charming family run hotel. The bungalow has beautiful gardens, many birds and the hosts are charming. Our rooms were comfortable, clean with mossie nets and fans. A short walk to the village shops and train station, take a torch if walking at night. The breakfast was delicious and we all agreed we enjoyed the best dahl and roti here in the 16 days we were in Sri Lanka!! Wish we could have stayed longer.
