We went to this location for our 2nd anniversary and had a lovely time. I think they knew that we were celebrating our 2nd year and surprised us with a nice cake and a fruit platter when we ordered an evening snack.

Food was also fabulous with quite a selection from a variety of set menu options. Propotions were just right and served in time. We could not inform them about my wife's allergies but they were kind enough change the preparation and offer something else instead. They were quick at it and the alternative was equally delicious (i had a sip to taste) :)

Amenities in the room wee also quite good and very clean. Although we found only two movies channels on TV to watch, which was also not that good. Please try to subscribe to HBO Star movies, coz when it rains there is nothing else to do.

There are some very nice scenery to enjoy close by especially the 'nine arches bridge' which is walking distance (30 min slow walk) from the resort. My wife was pregnant at the time so we did not opt for the mountain bikes or any other adventurous ventures (checkout their website for Things to do & Excursions).

All in all it was a very nice experience in a cool and calm environment. You would definitely love it if you're an environmentalist and nature lover.

Room Tip: All the rooms have more or less the same view. But if you select a room on the ground floor the priv...

We picked 98 Acres on our tour of Sri Lanka as we wanted something small and remote in the mountain region and, with only 12 rooms and being about 1000m up in the hills, this ticked both boxes.

On arrival, the porter put our bags into a little trolley car and we drove.. about 15 metres to our room - Room number 1 :D

The room (standard) was absolutely fantastic. Totally rustic, with lots of dark wood and stunning views from the room and large balcony over the valley towards Little Adams Peak and Ella Rock, it was equipped with tea/coffee making facilities, a mini-bar/fridge, a fan and some netting to go over the bed in the evening. Surprisingly for somewhere so remote/small, it also featured free wifi, although the connection was patchy at times. One slight downside is that you can see and hear people on neighbouring balconies so it kind of spoils the isolation at times (particularly if they include screaming kids).

During the first afternoon, we sat on the balcony and watched the wildlife around us - the palm squirrels running upside-down along a wire under the room, a pair of colourful bee-eaters on a tree across from our balcony and a woodpecker on another tree, with all the sounds of the forest below. Later that evening we were treated to a fast-moving cloud bank accompanied by some pretty cool storms. One thing to remember is that these rooms are never totally sealed. There's no massive holes but the bugs do get in so you need to make sure your netting is down before evening or you'll be clearing them off the bed.

The food at 98 acres was average in the evening and good at breakfast. The food is made-to-order by an in-house chef - and the menu was surprisingly varied for somewhere that caters to so few guests at a time. Food and drink prices were a bit higher than elsewhere on our tour, but still tolerable (and it's not like you can just pop along to another restaurant). Breakfasts were especially nice as the morning views from the restaurant, whilst eating a Sri Lankan breakfast, was quite awesome.

There's plenty to do at 98 Acres, from the obligatory climb to the top of Little Adam's peak, to the on-site spa, to a helicopter ride (98 Acres has it's own helipad) and there's a nearby tea factory too. Every morning, you can watch the plantation workers heading down to the plantations and then returning at around 4:30pm with their haul. For the more adventurous, you can arrange trips into Ella or Haputale and onwards to Lipton's Seat at over 2000m high.

Definitely one of the highlights of our trip and I would recommend 98 Acres if considering a stay in the Ella area.

+ Great views
+ Peacful - only noises are the birds etc
+ Lovely natural accommodation/buildings
+ Surrounded by nature
+ Cheap mini bar
+ Comfortable beds
+ Small Adam's Peak
+ Just 12 rooms

- Surrounded by Nature (bugs)
- Average food
- View other balconies

Room Tip: Get a top-level room if you can - nicer to not have anyone above you.

Rooms and setting is breathtaking. Loved our stay here, Is little way from the centre of Ella, but the walk to little adams peak goes past the hotel. Great menu, amazing Sri lankan breakfasts as well.

This resort is pretty special. It's a short tuk tuk ride out of Ella, with spectacular views over Little Adam's Peak.

It's a popular place, so a recommend booking in advance, as we tried to extend our 1 night stay to 2, however they were fully booked.

The rooms are clean and tidy, each with a balcony to overlook the hills ahead.

The restaurant for breakfast is a climb up some steps to reach and even higher point, located near a good swimming pool. The breakfast is great value, as the food just keeps coming!

Probably our favourite resort in Sri Lanka.

We stayed here for 2 nights. The views from our room were spectaclur. Lovely walks around the Tea Plantations and up Little Adam Peak before relaxing around the pool and enjoying the views. We were also able to walk into Ella which we enjoyed. The staff are so friendly, helpful and honest. I didnt realise my bracelet had fallen off until the waiter came running after me. Fantastic breakfast and evening meal. Would definately recommend a stay here.
