My family (myself, husband and 3 daughters) are without a doubt unanimous in our descision that this is the best hotel we have ever stayed in.

1. Service

The service from all the staff was exceptional, you felt as if you could literally ask for anything and that they would do their best to try and help you. It's difficult to decide who to give a special mention to, but the pool boys were brilliant. They had a difficult job, with the usual sun bed reserving problem, but we would always be found sun beds and extra shades what ever the time of day, we never felt the need to get up early.

One of my daughters is vegetarian and on a couple of occasions the chefs in both restaurants created a dish just for her, wonderful! The waiting staff too, always smiling, they seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs.

The cleaners, everyday a cheery word, the rooms were spotless, towels changed twice a day, Molton Brown toiletries replenished, chocolates waiting.

2. Restaurants

We ate in both restaurants, we were on half board which allowed you to have everything at the main restaurant and an allowance towards the a la carte menu at the Baccus of 17 Euros. You could also have the set menu at the Baccus included on half board, this was exceptional, wonderful flavours and presentation, great extra special service too, we loved being presented with a scented flannel to start our meal!

If I could change one thing it would be to maybe to have a 'dish of the day' at the main restaurant, as after 10 days we had exhausted all of our favourites on the menu.

You can also eat at the Columbia Beach Hotel next door if on half board. We tried this one night, but although we enjoyed the atmosphere, the food wasn't a patch on the Resorts, it was a buffet and although tasty, lacked variety and presentation.

A quick mention about breakfast. Some of the more unusual and very tasty items on offer among the more conventional included: chocolate mousse, rice pudding, carrot cake, apple crumble cake, French toast and Halloumi and olive bread, I could go on. The orange juice is freshly squeezed, and all the egg dishes made to order. What a treat.

3. Beach and water sports

Our daughters had a great time using the Hotels watersports.
Situated a 2 minute walk along the beach, the stand is easy to find and no booking was needed. They tried parasailing, great fun and all 5 of us were allowed in the speed boat, so we had a little tour round the coast too. They also enjoyed the inflatable sofa! There are also banana rides, jet skis, pedalos and canoes.

The sea was lovely, but a little tricky to enter as there is a slight shelf and it's stony, although it turns to sand further out.

4. Rooms

We had 2 executive garden view rooms. They were huge, had everything you could wish for, 2 armchairs, a sofa, large coffee table, and an enormous and extremely comfy double bed. It was especially nice to have a separate shower stall and great fun having a control box for all the lights! The aircon was quiet and efficient. You get 2 bottles of complimentary water daily and a good selection of teas together with a coffee making machine. There is also a good selection of drinks and snacks in the pay for minibar.

5. Grounds

One if the things that made the Hotel so special was the design of it. The way the rooms and grounds blend so well into the hillside. The profusion of plants and trees, the greenery. The wonderfully warm pool.

The lighting at night, the carefully placed lanterns and candles, the relaxing feel to everything, it all felt so atmospheric.

6. Trips

We hired a car with Tarantos. We booked online before we arrived and they were brilliant. We even changed our car to a slightly bigger one on the second day and weren't charged any more money.

We visited Lara Bay, about an hour away. A lovely very unspoilt beach were the Turtles lay their eggs. The sea was lovely to swim in, but a bit rough the day we went and a steep gradient on entering.

We also visited Aphrodite's Rock, well worth it, only about 30 mins away. There's a small shop and cafe and the atmosphere is very special, lovely views and photo opportunities.

We went to Pathos and saw the mosaics and ruins, a very interesting half day, very exposed though, go early to avoid the heat.

We also went into the Troodos mountains, the views going up were gorgeous, it's such a contrast to the coast, the air was so much cooler and fresher. There is a visiter centre but it had an entry fee so we didn't bother as it looked rather uninspiring.
Whilst at the top we experienced a magnificent storm! Thunder, lightening, torrential rain, it was quite a contrast to the hot sunshine we returned to an hour later.

I could write more, but will finish by saying a big thank you to all the management and staff at the Columbia Beach Resort for giving my family such a wonderfully relaxing and truly memorable holiday. We hope to return very soon.

We have just returned home after an 11 night stay at Columbia Beach Resort. The first impression when you arrive definitely gives the WOW factor as the hotel is beautiful, we were greeted with fizz and fruit juice cocktails for the children and our luggage was taken to our rooms via an open sided buggy which impressed our 9 year old greatly - excellent after a long day travelling and late at night. We had interconnecting junior suites which were very well equipped with a safe, hairdryer, robes, slippers, plenty of storage and coat hangers, fridge, small contained kitchen area with a hob and sink and small cupboards, glasses etc. Also a TV but we didn't even turn it on! The beds are very comfy and the twice daily housekeeping visits were discreet but of a very high standard, chocolates on the pillow and a daily 'quote' card were a nice touch. We also had a balcony with a small table and chairs which we made use of each evening.
The pool is incredible, it is warm, clean, large enough for the children to enjoy without disturbing others and to enjoy a proper swim and the view across to the bay is just stunning - we never tired of it. There are plenty of sun loungers and umberellas but most are taken by 9am. Loungers are comfortable and well spaced out and there are plenty of alternative locations with loungers and shade if you want to avoid the pool. There are also several bars dotted about the resort; the swim up pool bar, beach bar and Eros balcony bar so lots of chance for a change of scenery. We enjoyed them all ;-).
The food is fantastic quality and there is lots of choice, portion sizes are very generous and we soon learnt to choose starters for our children's main meals when they chose from the adult menu. Drinks are expensive but no more than any other hotel. The local wine is more reasonable and very nice. We upgraded to half board for a penny so it proved excellent value for us. The Italian Restaurant was lovely, very quiet but I felt it picky that my husband was asked to change his shoes to closed toe ones when he had adhered to the long trouser policy but wore smart open toe sandals. It was handled discreetly but like I said picky when an older teenager was there dinning in flip flops and shorts.
The staff make this hotel exceptional, nothing is too much trouble and they are all without exception friendly, fantastic with the children and have a genuine desire to help you have the best holiday you can - they work incredibly hard but always with a smile.
I didn't have a great experience in the Spa due to an unacceptable wait for a treatment, however in fairness I spoke to others who did have lovely treatments and the Spa staff did apologise and sent to my room some products as an apology so please judge for yourselves.
If you fancy a trip out do contact Andreas at Eco Adventures Tours for his fabulous jeep safaris, the hotel can give you his leaflet and will book for you - I will write him a separate review but I guarantee it will make your holiday and you will will experience authentic Cyprus and enjoy Andreas's company, humour and love for his Country.
I cannot fault this resort but things that would make it even better for us personally would be; no smoking in the outdoor restaurants/pool area and better use to be made of the different bar areas with some evening entertainment made available in one area at least.
We are already looking to book again next year.

We stayed at the Columbia Beach Hotel from the 9-25 July 2014. We arrived about 12am - the restaurant was closed but there were sandwiches, wine and water left in our room. We also were given a voucher that could be used in the restaurant for lunch.

We found the Columbia Beach Hotel to be a lovely, small hotel - I liked the fact it wasn't too big and was happy to let my children walk around unaccompanied - something I am not comfortable doing in very large hotels.

I can not fault the staff or service - they were all extremely friendly and helpful. We had a few issues in our room eg the wifi was very choppy - we addressed our concerns to the staff and the next thing we knew there was someone from the IT department sorting it out. The sofa bed wasn't as comfortable as it could be so they popped in a bed instead.

We were celebrating a birthday during our visit - a cake was delivered to the room on the day. A very nice touch.

The pool is not huge but I felt that even though the hotel was fully booked for most of our holiday we didn't feel it. We noticed that the pool tended to be busier in the mornings then after lunch it was very quiet. The only downside was that the sunbeds went really quickly! The water in the pool was very salty and full of chlorine - plays havoc with long hair!!

There is easy access to the beach - it is extremely pebbly - not our cup of tea - but there were sunbeds available to use.

Pissouri itself is a very quiet village. There are a few shops and restaurants outside the hotel. The village square is about 3km away. If you want to explore Cyprus from Pissouri it is imperative you have a car. There is easy access to roads that will take you anywhere around the island.

As we stayed at the hotel for over two weeks the only down side was that the food for the evening meals became quite repetitive and boring. Towards the end of the holiday we were really fed up of it. Initially it was great - but we noticed the same dishes were being repeated the following week. It would be nice to rotate the food selection to every two weeks.

The Columbia Beach Resort is right next door and it is easy to walk to. What would have been good was that if we were allowed to use the facilities eg pool, restaurant without an additional charge such as the Jumeirah group do. That would helped in the variation of food and activities available.

Overall we had a lovely time at this hotel. We would probably stay here again.

Many thanks for staying with us and for your review!

Kindly note, the Columbia Beach Resort is a 5* property, and therefore is more expensive than our Hotel.

Any Hotel guests who wish to use their facilities pay for a day pass, if available, but the restaurants and bars are available for anyone to use, though we do advise making a lunch or dinner reservation in advance, along with Hébe Spa, if a treatment is booked.

We hope to welcome your family back to our Hotel in the future!

The premises are excellent and beautiful, the infinity pool is perfect, rooms & breakfast also great, just a perfect place for a relaxing weekend.

What we did not like so much were too many rules, inconveniences and sometimes not very polite behavior of the personnel. 1. The pool closes down at 7 pm...Cyprus is hot and this seems way too early to close the pool. If you leave the hotel during the day and want to have a quick swim or relax by the pool when you get back, you are too late.

2. Actually, a pool guy came to me already at 6.40! saying that the pool is closing down and when I did not leave the sun bed immediately, expecting that I could enjoy the pool at least until 7 pm, he started cleaning everywhere around me. When I gave up and moved to a sun bed on the beach, another guy came saying that the beach is also closing down at 7 pm. On top of that there was a wedding at the resort, so some other parts of the premises were closed due to this fact.

It is a pity having beautiful premises and forbidding the customers to actually use them .. it appeared to me that the only place in the hotel where you are allowed after 7 pm is your room or the restaurant (in a suit in almost 50 degrees). When I asked the beach boy what would he suggest me to do in the resort after 7 pm, he recommended me to go and take a shower ?!

3. We also believe that insisting on the long trousers policy in a restaurant right by the pool & seaside in very hot conditions is old fashioned and pretentious. Personally, I think we were more than adequately dressed, my guy in closed shoes, polo shirt and very formal looking below-the-knee shorts (no sports or swim shorts) but the waiter kicked us out from the almost empty restaurant without a blink of an eye.

4. Average tasting but overpriced food at the Poseidon tavern where we were kindly allowed to eat definitely did not save the evening experience.

Many thanks for choosing to stay at our Resort, and for your review.

in reference to your comments kindly note the following:
The life guard finishes work at 7:00 p.m. and therefore we cannot allow any swimming after this time, this is a legal obligation and for our guest's safety.

The beach does not close and our beach bar is open until 11:00 p.m.

The health and safety regulations are stated on the signage clearly placed on every table, by all sunloungers around the pool, for the safety of all our guests, particularly the children.

We apologize for the incident with your partner and his attire, this shall be addressed with the relevant persons responsible.

We hope to welcome you both back to our Resort in the future!
