“Attention to every detail - brilliant!”
Reviewed 3 September 2012 for a stay in August 2012

This is a great place to stay. The owners have put a huge amount of thought into creating a wonderful environment for a holiday. The large site is safely fenced so children can roam whilst their parents relax. We went with our girls aged 6 and 3. We took our bikes and enjoyed the traffic free paths and the very quiet roads. We spent our afternoons swimming in the perfect pool. Easy supermarket shopping is near at hand and there are lots of local markets to explore. The owners came by most days and were hospitable and helpful. We were given clean towels & linen after our first week - not something I've experienced elsewhere; there's a big pile of games to play inside, table tennis outside, a swing, a slide, fruit and vege to pick; oh yes and everything was spotlessly clean. It seemed that everything had been thought of and we warmly recommend it.

Liked best: Spotlessly clean, wonderful pool, safe site, lovely cycling nearby
Liked least: we got bored of the flat cycle paths but headed for the hills instead - lovely

“Gites Alors!”
Reviewed 11 July 2011 for a stay in July 2011

We were looking for something specific because we had a wedding to attend and have a young child. The accommodation had to be reasonably close to an airport (Bergerac 45 mins, Bordeaux 2hrs), to be child friendly, close to shopping, our wedding venue, places to eat and maybe things to see, time permitting. This Gite fitted all the criteria perfectly!! In one direction, 5km west from the gite, is Casseneuil, where one can buy fuel, fresh bread, groceries etc. Villenueve Sur Lot is 6km in the other direction (east), for more comprehensive shopping, places to eat and entertainment. The gite has lovely landscaped gardens, a child proof lock gate at the top of a path that goes all the way down to the Lot river, a large well maintained pool (again with child proof gate), a play area with slide and climbing frame in front of the accommodation and expansive lawns for children to explore. The tranquillity is wonderful, punctuated only by the sounds of birds, the rustle of lizards in the grass and the ever present gliding buzzards and kites over head. Every now and then one can hear a small fishing boat whirring up the river. Our accommodation comprised 2 large bedrooms, one with a single for our daughter, the other a double. There was a separate WC and bathroom. The living area comprised a large kitchen area with cabinets, cooker, fridge, sink, washing machine, microwave, everything one might need really and then a lounge featuring TV (if you really need one!) with dvd player, couches and chairs. Immediately outside the lounge was a decked area with a table and chairs shaded by a large umbrella. Everything in the accommodation is well maintained as it is all pretty new. The house is surrounded by a wall with a coded entrance gate, so children can play safely within the boundary. There are fruit trees and a vegetable plot all available to residents when ripe, obviously!!
Villeneuve is a picturesque small country town bordering the slow and sultry River Lot, surrounded in the summer months by Plum orchards, Sunflower fields and vineyards. The countryside is peppered with little hamlets and villages built from Limestone and hilltop Bastides. The quality of food every where is just superb, as is the atmosphere at the regular outdoor Marchés Gourmand, as towns and villages take it in turn to host them. Be prepared to have your palettes bombarded!!! On a practical note it is essential to have a car in this part of the world. If you are bringing your own, be aware of French Drink driving laws when out enjoying a lovely meal with wine, they are much stricter than UK. Those planning to hire at the airport, be aware that you MUST HAVE A CURRENT CREDIT CARD with a pretty high limit to cover costs. In France, no credit card means no car, its black and white.
