Same tranquil setting, faultless welcome, professional service and good cooking as ever, but the lunchtime formula has changed. It's now shorter and slightly simpler bur still the same quality cooking. The lunchtime formula is now a choice of 2 starters, 2 mains, plus a dessert and coffee - and a snip at just 16.50 Euros. A short but good wine list.
The starter we chose was softboiled egg on a bed of celeriac puree, with crispy onions and balsamic dressing. A mixture we'd never eaten before but it was a clever, delicious combination. The main course was a succulent fillet of hake on a bed of couscous with calabrese spears; another winning combination. We finished with a pear tart; flakey pastry, ripe pear and egg custard were all spot-on. A great lunch at a modest price.
Much better than most restaurants in town serve, so well worth the short trip to find the Rooy.

An excellent meal, very French, the staff are extremely attentive, and even with a very large group of Rotarians, they were very efficient. The ambience is simple and very elegant. Our Rotary club hold meeting there frequently and we always enjoy our evening meal at the Rooy.

As others have remarked, this restaurant is in an unusual location outside of V-s-L. It's a lovely old building but the restaurant is very 1980's in styling and ambience.

We waited rather too long for aperitifs but other than the service was impeccable and our food delicious. The only disappointment was the vegetables as they were over cooked and lacked seasoning. The wines were fantastic as were the coffee and truffles.

This isn't a suitable restaurant for children but otherwise I would recommend it.

We went to the Hostellerie du Rooy for a family gathering (about 50 people). The whole dining room was reserved for us. The hostess was extremely nice and helpful, the setting was charming and the food was amazing. I will definitely come back there next time I'm in the area!

A good restaurant that is all too easy to miss because it's not in the town centre. But it's only 3 km from the town centre; with good parking if needed. The location feels almost rural, a bit like a country house restaurant, but in town. Certainly one of the best restaurants in Villeneuve.

We've eaten there several times and never been disappointed. The cooking features traditional regional and national cuisine with innovative touches. The menus offer a good range of interesting and ambitious dishes which change frequently with the market as well as the regular local dishes based around foie gras, duck etc. Surprisingly good for a small restaurant. Despite the temptations offered by the delicious-sounding dishes on the main menus, on this occasion we went for the menu du jour, which at 16 euros for 2 courses and 19 euros for 3 courses is pretty much a gift for cooking of this quality. Usually there's a choice of 2 starters, then a choice from one meat or one fish dish and finally one dessert.

We started with a fine textured fish and tomato soup and a beautiful guinea fowl terrine, veined with prune d'Agen which nicely balanced the richness of the meat. One main course was a melting roast glazed suckling pig with a mixture of late summer vegetables. The other was a firm piece of roast sturgeon fillet with a red pepper sauce on a bed of vegetable spaghetti (carrots, pumpkin, leek and cabbage). Whilst I enjoyed the lusciousness of finely sliced ripe pears with chocolate sauce and almonds my wife, not sharing my sweet tooth, was very pleased with the alternative plate of cheese offered by the owner.

Bread is freshly home-baked, crusty, light and utterly irresistible. The wine list is fairly short, as you might expect in a small restaurant, but covers most needs as it skims the French regions. Bottles are fairly priced and a few wines are available by the glass. Coffee is served with a small but indulgent chocolate truffle and a personal favourite; miniature apple preserved in syrup and calvados.

The welcome is faultless.Service is efficient and very professionally overseen by the owner. The setting is largely unmatched in Villeneuve; calm, verdant and with just a hint of luxury. On a summer day you can enjoy lunch on the terrace overlooking the garden - almost a park - with its superb mature trees and entertainment provided by numerous butterflies and birds, as well as the resident red squirrels.

Overall: very good cooking, warm welcome and service, unmatched setting and reasonable prices (at lunchtime at least). Worth seeking out!
