This chateau is a nice size to tour round inside and the grounds are quite vast, and formally set out. There is a guide book which is plenty informative enough. The cafe in the old orangery is a welcome retreat from the summer heat as it is air conditioned. We took the bus/boat tour which was a nice extra to appreciate the size of the grounds but it is quite a walk from the chateau - and you aren't allowed to cut across the grass! The guide was very helpful and translated into English for us on the boat trip.

Unlike some chateaux this one is still owned by the family who are crazy about hunting - and keep a pack of hounds in the grounds. You can hear them baying from afar. The house is filled with furnishing and memorabilia and together with the grounds you can happily spend a day here - although I would recommend bringing a picnic to cut down on the cost.

As you wander through the rooms of the chateau you are impressed by the authentic furnishings and memorabilia. Free parking and a pleasant small town surround the chateau parkland.

The lay-out of the grounds are exquisite, no two ways about it! If its a sunny day, you can spend the whole day wandering about, and not know how the day flew! I recommend buying the ticket with the canal ride. The kids loved the ride on the petit train (the guy was really funny), and the person on the boat went out of his way to explain to us in English. It's fascinating, the story of the canal and the river...it was simply a perfect outing for us!

The Lore is full old excellent chateaus but this is quite splendid. The house is interesting and well furnished. The grounds are beautiful and the pack of hounds enchanting. Worth the detour!
