“What a wonderful place”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

Firstly, I agree with other posters.. Don't judge a book by its cover. We booked this hotel for 4 nights. The reason we booked was simply due to the reviews and given that there was nothing else for miles around.
To be honest, we were surprised. The interior of the hotel was lovely and welcoming and the beds were comfy. The free wifi was quick and all in all a really pleasant stay.
There was one member of the staff who we need to thank and this was Laura. She was brilliant helping us out with advice around the area and nothing was too much trouble. She always had a smile on her face when you knew she had worked long days and was shattered. This pretty much summed up the hotel. The staff made sure you were looked after.
I also need to mention the food in this review. It was delicious and the meat lovers must try the Butchers Board from the menu. Every meal we had was beautifully presented and tasty.
We always ask ourselves would we stay there again or simply use the restaurant. We would say definitely..a big yes.

This is about our 5th visit to Hotel Alexis after it was recommend to us earlier last year by friends. It doesn't look particularly attractive from the road as we had passed it many times and it gives you an impression of a travel lodge. As they say you should never judge a book by its cover!! This really is a gem of a find at a very reasonable price. The staff are very welcoming especially the lovely young lady who use to work at another restaurant in the town she really is an asset to the hotel with her very bubbly personality. We have a holiday home just up the road from Alexia and now highly recommend in our welcome pack. We can honestly say that we have never been disappointed with any meal that we have had here and the 19euro menu is great value for 3 courses. If you go in at lunch time it is full of business people and very well used by visitors and locals alike. Our French is not perfect but they really make an effort to speak English. If you have seen this hotel on your travels, next time don't just drive by, make sure you call in for a meal I am sure you won't be disappointed! We went 2 nights out of 5 on this trip.

We stayed here and ate at the restaurant while visiting la Souterraine for a friends wedding. We weren't expecting much and were so happy with our experience! They sat us at the restaurant even though it was 10 minutes from closing and our food and service were incredible. All of the staff were exceptionally friendly, accommodating, and helpful. Our server at dinner was so amazing and he even invited us for a digestif after keeping the restaurant open for an extra two hours! The rooms were comfy and clean and free wifi was great. The rooms also had plenty of space. I would definitely suggest staying and even recommend the restaurant for a fun family or larger group dining xperience.

We were staying at a chambre d'hote in Folles, just outside La Souterraine and we were looking for somewhere to eat on a Friday night. After driving around, just outside town we saw the lights of the Inter-Hotel Alexia Restaurant and decided to give it a try. we were greeted at the door and asked for a table for two. We ordered drinks whilst we looked at the menu, you could have a 3 course meal for 19.90 euros so when the drinks arrived(and nibbles) we asked the waitress to explain several words to us, not being fluent in French. We decided on goats cheese parcels on a bed of salad for myself and ham and cheese salad for hubby, when I found steak au pouvre and frites were on the menu we both went for that. Desserts were creme brûlée and some sort of ice cream with gelatine pieces and grand marnier.
The food and service were excellent, the starters were like main course and the frites were homemade, lots of them, the pepper sauce was in a small pot not all over the steak. Very good value for money.

I've visited this French town for many years and there has always been the problem of where to stay. There are 2 hotels in the town center, neither of which, in my opinion, are suitable for the modern businessman.

So the opening of this place in 2010 was much needed.

The hotel is modern, clean and has good parking. The restaurant is good and the free wifi is quick. Staff are friendly and efficient.

The only complaint I have is why oh why are the bedroom windows so small? I know there isn't much of a view outside but with these small windows you get the feeling that you're in a prison cell!

Never mind, if you are staying in La Souterraine THIS is the place to stay!

Did I mention that there's a swimming pool? No? By the way, there's a swimming pool.

We stayed at this hotel in July this year on our way to Carcassone. The location isn't fantastic as it on the outskirts of La Soutteraine in an industrial area. The car park is secure with the usual security code entry after hours. The staff are very helpful and checking in was very quick, even though we were a couple of hours. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious, and clean. We ate in the hotel restaurant as there is nothing nearby. The food is plentiful and we all struggled to finish what we ordered.

Our only disappointment was that the swimming pool wasn't in use, which was one of the reasons we booked it.
