“A Special Treat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

For a true taste of the region, this is the place to eat. The food is elegantly presented and absolutely delicious. It can be a little rich in composition for some but I loved it. Under no circumstances could you say that the menu is cheap but in my opinion, well worth every centime. The house wine is very good, too and the service is excellent. English speakers are catered for as the chefs wife Rachel is English.

“Delightful family lunchtime experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014

We visited as a family of 5, including our youngest member at 9 months, parents and grandparents. We were made very welcome, a highchair provided and we were made to feel that the baby was not an inconvenience. We chose from the Euros 13 Menu (2 Courses ) and although a small choice, the food was outstanding in quality of ingredients, presentation, flavour and value . A lunch served at just the right pace by charming and attentive young staff. Although the impression may be of formality the atmosphere was very relaxed.
We will return

“Just too many flavours that did not fit together”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 March 2014

Have never been a fan of this restaurant but tried it again today. Staff amaturish and poorly trained. The first course was chicken two ways but both tasted the same, About six different added flavours. Portion too large and again too many flavours. The main course was pork in two ways. The echine was tough and inedible and the belly pork was OK when the minuet pieces were taken of the fat. Accompanied by a cabbage, onion, carrot ''fry up''. More grease than veg. This was all accompanied by a large black pudding flan which looked as though it had been waiting a long time to be served. My wife's starter was OK but was not pleased to find that the Dos de Bar, which was a 4 euro supplement, turned into a ''duo of poisson'' sea bass and whiting(??). Still we cannot remember having whiting in what is classed as a ..gourmand'' restaurant and the sea was so small it was difficult to find . On the way to the car my mouth was just a sensation of grease and sickliness. Leave this on to the English tourists..

“Classic French food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 September 2013

We arrived here for lunch without a booking and realise we were lucky to get in. The service was impressive with the lady who was running things being charming, efficient and helpful. The menu had a great selection of both fish and meats. My fish and my partner's beef were cooked to perfection. The cheese board is sensational!
The general ambience of the restaurant is very good with lots of light and space.
If we are in the area again we will certainly be back.

“Superb for foodies”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 September 2013

We have tried to get into this restaurant everytime we visit Aubeterre sometimes closed or fully booked, finaly eureeka we did it, the layout out the front of the hotel is somewhat tardy but when you get to the rear of the hotel dining area it is very nice and open floor plan. We decided not ot order from the plat du jour and order from alicarte as we have been married for evr we both chose the same two dishes, lobster and langoustine soup covered by puff pastry, absolutley fantasic, Yummo bring on the monkfish main course which was our main dish, they call monkfish the poor mans lobster as it has a similar texture, it came with a kind of a mild curry sauce unbelievable, The only problem with the place is I had to ask for the bill 3 times and wait for what seemed an eternity for it to eventualy come, ( why do French waiters lay this crap on us) other than that full marks 2 entrees, 2 mains 2 glasses of wine came to Euro 75 not bad from where we come from!!.
