Our first visit here last week for lunch. The welcome from the proprietress/waitress (Audrey we assume) was friendly, and service both friendly and professional throughout. We each ordered a burger (veggie for me and campagne for hubbie) and Audrey mentioned that the French onion soup is included with the main at lunchtime, so we had that to start! The soup was served with the traditional cheese on toast topping, and was really tasty; we both agreed it was one of the best French onion soups we've had. Our burgers were served on black slate platters (stylish!) with a dish of frites each. The frites deserve a special mention; Audrey explained that they were already seasoned with salt. In fact, their seasoning seemed to include garlic and other tasty flavourings! They were crisp, dry and very savoury - great frites! Hubby declared his beef burger very tasty. My veggie burger - based on chick peas - was tasty and spicy though slightly on the dry side, but that's chick peas for you (ketchup etc. were available if we'd wanted them). I couldn't quite finish my burger (too full!) and we couldn't manage any dessert. This was a real shame because, having seen reviews here before we went, I was determined to try the cheesecake. Next time I'll make sure to leave room for it! All in all, the combo of friendly and professional service with a smile in comfortable and stylish surroundings, and tasty, straightforward food made for a pleasant lunch out. Cost for 2 x soup, 2 x burgers & frites, 1 orange juice, 1 beer, 2 coffees = 37€. Yes, it's more expensive than the cafés ouvriers etc. offering a menu du jour, but it was a bit different and that was a refreshing change. We'll certainly go again.
