Description: La Brasserie de la Place is a stylish brasserie in the beautifully renovated ‘Beau Villages’ of Aubeterre sur Dronne. Owned by Sydney and Audrey Murphy-Brandmayer (previously of La Tapazzeria) this tastefull restaurant offers a fresh modern twist to a classic brasserie menu, featuring their renowned 250g Burgers, as well as Duck and Chicken options, not forgetting their Spicy Vegetarian Burger with tzaziki sauce. These dishes are complimented with huge Salads with inventive ingredients and imaginative dressings, along side some traditional brasserie classics such as local Confit de Canard, Ribs in spicy sauce to mention couple. To follow their famous desserts such as White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheescake and Tiramisu tempt even those who are not sweet toothed, with Chocolate Orange Brownies or be spoilt for choice with the Café Gourmand. La Brasserie prides itself on home-made dishes from fresh local produce and has a special section for the kiddies with an ice-cream cone for dessert. With air-conditioned indoor dining or under the trees of the village square La Brasserie welcomes you all to a smile and a little bit of France...

“Next time - cheesecake!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 January 2014

Our first visit here last week for lunch. The welcome from the proprietress/waitress (Audrey we assume) was friendly, and service both friendly and professional throughout. We each ordered a burger (veggie for me and campagne for hubbie) and Audrey mentioned that the French onion soup is included with the main at lunchtime, so we had that to start! The soup was served with the traditional cheese on toast topping, and was really tasty; we both agreed it was one of the best French onion soups we've had. Our burgers were served on black slate platters (stylish!) with a dish of frites each. The frites deserve a special mention; Audrey explained that they were already seasoned with salt. In fact, their seasoning seemed to include garlic and other tasty flavourings! They were crisp, dry and very savoury - great frites! Hubby declared his beef burger very tasty. My veggie burger - based on chick peas - was tasty and spicy though slightly on the dry side, but that's chick peas for you (ketchup etc. were available if we'd wanted them). I couldn't quite finish my burger (too full!) and we couldn't manage any dessert. This was a real shame because, having seen reviews here before we went, I was determined to try the cheesecake. Next time I'll make sure to leave room for it! All in all, the combo of friendly and professional service with a smile in comfortable and stylish surroundings, and tasty, straightforward food made for a pleasant lunch out. Cost for 2 x soup, 2 x burgers & frites, 1 orange juice, 1 beer, 2 coffees = 37€. Yes, it's more expensive than the cafés ouvriers etc. offering a menu du jour, but it was a bit different and that was a refreshing change. We'll certainly go again.

“You have to try the cheesecake!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2013

Lovely setting, super-friendly staff and proprietor (Audrey), amazing food - but best of all the cheesecake! (And I don't particularly like cheesecake). Do yourself a favour and eat here - we did - twice in 4 days!!! (The other 2 days we were at a wedding)

“Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 November 2013

I cannot believe the review from Jennifer D, we as a family have been to the Brasserie at least 15 times and the service and food has always been excellent. We have always found the owner who is Irish to be beyond professional, polite and excellent humoured nothing has every been too much trouble.
I would recommend this restaurant as one of the most pleasant and pleasurable in AUbeterre

“Not to be missed... lovely brasserie in a very pretty village”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 November 2013

Set in a delightful village, a fab place to eat! This was our third visit here. We've eaten the homemade burger on two occasions (being a fussy eater it was cooked to just how I liked it....very well done), this time we had the chicken sandwich - on all occasions our meal was rounded off with the raspberry white chocolate cheesecake which is to die for!! Food was perfectly cooked and presented and all the staff were very friendly and more than welcoming. Highly recommended. A must visit when doing the local tourist attractions.

The best raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake ever. An interesting twist on the beef burger - try duck burger.
