We stayed at Sous L'Olivier for a week in August. Julien was a great host and excellent chef. Dinner is optional and we ate in 4 nights during our stay. The food was great (5 courses!) and the the atmosphere excellent as all guests share a long courtyard table. We were able to practice our French and other guests could practice their English. Breakfast is also superb with a very wide choice (cereals, juice, pastries, croissants, cheese, ham, etc) and lots of home made preserves. However, do not expect a full English breakfast (believe me, it is not a loss given the alternatives available). The house itself is the converted family home and is a large stone-built building. Our room (Olive) was on the first floor to the side of the courtyard. It was light, airy and homely furnished. The bathroom was clean and a good size with a bath (unusual) as well as shower. The outside areas included a large lawned area, a good sized pool (fenced as required) and both an open courtyard and covered seating areas. The house is surrounded on 3 sides by fields. The slight downside was some road noise. The house is set back about 100m from the road but at night some noise was noticeable --- it all depends where you live as to whether this a problem -- we live on a very quiet road and the noise was mildly disturbing, if you come from a town then you may not even notice it. The house is well situated for outings -- our daughters went horse riding, there is a great river canoe centre (gentle canoeing!) and lots of walking, hill top villages etc. Avignon is nearby as well as other interesting towns. It is the middle of the Ventoux/Luberon wine areas and Chateauneuf du Pape is about 45 mins drive away. You do need a car.

We stayed at Sous L'olivier for 3 nights and loved every moment there. It was everything I had read about on Trip Advisor and more! Easy to find and situated in the most beautiful countryside, we had the most comfortable stay. We were greeted by Julien with a glass of Rosé and a typical Italian cake on our arrival and from then on it was all top notch!!! The evening meals are AMAZING and a wonderful experience to sit around the long iron table with other travellers and enjoy the evening together. The breakfasts are, as everyone has previously written, the best ever! W couldn't help being the first ones to be seated at 8am!
The accommodation is very clean & spacious, and each room has a private area to relax. We all really enjoyed the swimming pool area, lots of room to relax and enjoy spontaneous wine & picnics on nearby tables.
We highly recommend a stay with Julien & Carole. They are wonderful relaxed hosts who thoroughly spoil you. It was easily the highlight of our month long holiday through Italy & France.

We had a great stay ( 5 days) at Sous l'Olivier. Charming villa and comfortable accommodation. Our children enjoyed swimming pool a lot. Julien is a great host, his cooking is divine and he was very helpful with information about the region and offered helpful hints. Julien speaks very good English so communication was not a problem ( we do not speak French).
We stayed in many beautiful B and B's in Europe and North America and we agreed that "Julien's breakfast" was the best. We also stayed each evening for dinner which was a great experience, combination of good company, delicious food and charming scenery.
Sous l'Olivier is a good base for 1 day trips to many beautiful places in Provence.
We would love to go back there again. Thank you Julien and Carol.

It's been two years since we stayed there and enjoyed everything about this place and we still think about it often. Julian and Carole's B&B is the best place to stay during a visit of this gorgeous region. We miss lovely evenings with Julian's fantastic cooking as well as lazy afternoons in our cozy room in this quiet house. The breakfast is seriously one of the best we've had in all of France. Julian gave us a big jar of his home made ratatouille and fruit jam as a departure gift because he enjoyed a mini concert we gave one night at dinner. It was really special to be able to taste them again when we got home. We can't wait to go back.

I have to agree with all of the comments recently written here. My husband and I, and our two children 13 and 10, spent two nights at Sous L'Olivier while vacationing in France in June. We arrived after driving from Beaune and getting a bit lost along the way. Julien quickly showed us to our room, the Vanille. It was a spacious room with a queen and a double bed, a large bathroom - with a tub(unheard of in most places in France), and a small kitchen. Outside we had our own private terrace. Before we could unpack the car, Julien had brought us a bottle of cold rose and two glasses - the perfect thing after along car trip!
We had already told Julien that we would join the other guests for dinner and I'm so glad we did! The food was delicious, the wines were lovely, a beautiful view of the pool and the countryside. It was just perfect. As others have said, we got a lot of information about the area talking to the other guests at dinner and it turned out that Sous L'Olivier was the perfect location for exploring the area.
Julien and his wife Carole are wonderful hosts. I would highly recommend Sous L'Olivier and would stay there again. My only regret was that we didn't have dinner with Julien on our second night as well!

I stayed at Sous L'Olivier in May with a group for 3 nights. Carole and Julien are wonderful welcoming hosts and Julien is a fantastic cook. The place is beautiful, spacious and relaxing and the welcome is genuine. Every evening before dinner Julien brings the bottles out and invites his guests for an aperitif accompanied by some wonderful snacks he has conjured up in his kitchen. Its a very convivial half hour spent with the other guest before a wonderful dinner. I was in Provence for 3 weeks and his food was far and away the highlight- I am still dreaming of his Moroccan chicken with preserved lemons. We ate there 3 times and each dinner was memorable - fresh food well prepared with vibrant flavours. I think he is a genius in the kitchen. He was kind enough to make us a picnic which was great, tasty with a perfect combination of ingredients, everything home made. If you want a real feel for Provence away from the madding hordes with great food this is the place to stay.

I just returned from a 3 week trip to France and I truly have to say that the 4 nights my sister in law and I spent at Julien and Carole's home were the highlight of the trip for me. I cannot say enough about the beautiful atmosphere that is the setting for this French farm house. It is located in a quiet rural area, right off of a small road giving easy access to a number of charming towns close by. The small town of L'Isle Sur la Sorgue is only 10 minutes away and is a very pleasant place for a meal or a stroll along the river. The Sunday market there, which is well known, is worth a visit....just be sure to get there early as it gets very crowded by 1030AM. For our stay we were in the room "Cigale" which was large, clean, comfortable and quiet. The bathroom was enormous and we had a small refrigerator in the room which was a nice extra. As expressed in many other reviews, the meals here are excellent. The large breakfast is served buffet style with home-made jams (at least 10 different types), croissants, pain du chocolate, coffee, fresh juices, sliced meats and cheeses, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, crepes, hard boiled eggs and more. There is no way you go away anything but stuffed! The dinner we experienced was excellent and it was so much fun spending a few leisurely hours over dinner getting to know our fellow travelers from all over the world. Julien accommodated my red meat free diet without hesitation. You will not have a better dining experience anywhere else. It is evident that Julien uses only the freshest ingredients and all the courses from the starter dish to the dessert are superb! The fact that the dinner is served family style at a large, beautifully set table, gives you the opportunity to interact with your fellow travelers in a unique way. So much can be learned about the area by talking to the other guests and learning from their experiences. It was so nice to have the beautiful grounds of this house for a relaxing place to sit and read, access the internet, or sit and talk after breakfast or upon your return to the house after a day of sightseeing. The pool area is very pleasant and inviting, as is the lovely courtyard-style outdoor patio area off the dining room. Julien and his wife Carole are wonderful hosts and I do plan on returning to their amazing home one day soon.
