“Made For Doorstep Skiing”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

The Flaine hotel suited our needs - we went for a week of skiing in February. It is perfectly located only a short walk from the slopes and ski lifts.

The bedrooms are definitely basic and minimalist but your there only to wash and sleep in them. The great thing about this hotel was that we were full-board and breakfast, lunch and dinner were all superb - great choice of food (self service) and as it is close to the ski lifts it was easy and quick to get back for lunch without losing skiing time. The staff are welcoming and try to provide impromptu and organised entertainment for guests.

Close to the hotel are shops, restaurants, bars, grocers, and excellent places to pick up breads, Savoie cheeses and meats.

Flaine is, in my opinion a little "ugly" (like the hotel) but the Flaine skiing area is right on the doorstep and is very extensive.

Only three stars without the food but the food gets it up to four stars.

€2600 they tried to charge me for a single room for the week. A very tired old hotel. The rooms are particularly in need if a make over.

Go to this ( Pierre & Vacances Premium Residence Les Terrasses d'Eos)

€2000 for the week five star. Four room apartment five star
Swimming pool giant juvuzzi
Modern rooms cheaper parking
And a bus every 15 mins to take you to the slopes. Great and cheaper than ( club MMV )

Hello,

Thank you for taking time to review your stay in our Hotel Club.
You did not mentionned that our prices include full board, from breakfasts to dinners, with generous buffet for each meal. The price also include Kids clubs, animations (parties at night, games, outdoor excursions...), access to the wellness area. These services are not included in a residence that only provide appartments for rent, where you need to cook your meals and don't have any additional service.

Dispite your deception, we hope you had great hollidays in Flaine.

Best regards,

The Guest Relation Manager.

the ski room is large and had modern ski boot drying racks. the skis had individual locks. One of the best ski rooms I have had in 35 years of skiing.
Our room was spacious and clean, with a large wardrobe. The beds were comfortable but a little on the short side. The bathroom was well appointed, but I would have preferred to have the toilet separated. The food quality was excellent!! They also had a spa which we enjoyed after a hard day's skiing.

Room Tip: We had a south facing room on 4th floor. It had 2 beds and superfluous 2 bunk beds. I would suggest...

Trip purpose was a ski holiday with 3 friends so we booked through a third party operator and we chose this based on the great value for money and the offering of full board. The food was great, you got exactly what you paid for. Breakfast was continental so if travelling from the uk and your expecting bacon...think again. It's ham's, cheese's and if you can bothered to fry or boil your own eggs then them too. Lunch when we stopped back at the hotel (quite a walk from ski area and longer if you've ski'd hard all morning) was great. Dinner again good, decent variety and exactly what you paid for. Only things to mention would be the lack of English speaking, there was a lot of raising voices and pointing (excuse the ignorance) and there is only 1 lift which is a pain at peak times of the day. Also a pain on arrival/departure if you have bought your own boots and skis as you will fill the lift. The wi-if should you want it, you need to sit in the part time managed reception and enter their code each time which does become tedious. Overall comfortable and served a purpose but don't set your expectations too high

We stayed here for the week from 21/12/13. We read the other reviews on this hotel and went with an open mind as what to expect. It is classified as a 3 star hotel, which I would question. The reception area is ok, the boot room excellent and good security for skis. The spa area on the ground floor is very nice, however, the steam room wasn't working, which considering we were there the first week of the season, doesn't bode well for the rest of it. The bar and restaurant area are ok and food was reasonable and free wine and fruit juice! However, they did seems to keep running out of things and items that they put on for the children, weren't really thought through - smoked salmon is not something most children have eaten, so on Christmas Eve, all starters were returned!
The bedrooms are what the issue is. The photo doesn't seem to bear resemblance to any of the rooms in the hotel and it was a matter of much discussion amongst guests. You could argue that it is just a place to rest your head and I do agree, however, I struggle with all the black mould that was in the all the wardrobes and all over the windows. We were on the fourth floor and the ceiling was covered with millions of tiny holes, which my daughter was terrified bugs were going to crawl out of. The bathroom, however was ok.
There is only one small lift, which kept on breaking down. It finally gave up the ghost on the morning that the whole hotel was checking out. When you have at least 200 hundred guests leaving at a similar time, with masses of luggage, hauling it down from the 4th floor is no joke.
On the plus side, the hotel is brilliantly located for the pistes.

Room Tip: Don't go for the 4th floor.

The location, value and food are as described in other reviews, making a good holiday base for a good and less busy ski area.

3 problems we had which may be useful to be aware of:

1: Like many French hotels the beds are VERY short, pushing away from the wall and using the suitcases at the pillow end to extend partially compensated.

2: The checkin times to the rooms were unreasonably rigid - after a long journey being unable to check in because your ( scheduled and on time) transfer as part of a package ski holiday didn't match their checkin schedule was poor. Being kept waiting for 2 hours or more in a bare function room was unacceptable.

3: Very French orientated. Admittedly half term is busy, but the only available communal area was completely taken over with french entertainment every evening. This would have been no problem at all if they had made any other area available for non french / quieter families to socialise within their parties.
We were also unlucky to coincide with some unpleasant Parisien "uncouth" families / twenty-something couples who tried to start several fights in the only communal area and were not dealt with severely enough by the management, despite complaints from several other guests; both british and french.

Just back from a family ski trip in a large group. Hotel was ideal for that. Basically repeating what most people have said but rooms are basic but clean, you've got pretty much UK freeview channels in the room on a flatscreen tv, the buffet restaurant was better than I expected with plenty of fresh salad and variety each day and the staff were excellent!! The kids club is great too, perfect for that type of holiday. It's not a pretty resort to look at as everything is 60/70's concrete, but the actual ski area is fantastic, well linked and huge with loads of off-piste to play with if you're that way inclined. There's not going on in the evenings like some resorts but then it wasn't that sort of holiday; plus when you've got free wine on tap why leave :) I'd definitely stay here again. It is 3* so don't expect 5*, but I think the value was fantastic. Kids club, sauna/steam/hot tub, food/wine, English TV, great staff - perfect.
