4.5 circles if it could be done. Hotel is a great location for winery visits and Rhine touring. Selected the from Fienschmeker write-ups. Hotel has great charachter. Communication with reservations was fast and email turnaround extremly quick. Asked for winery visit recommendations, and had three recommendations back in under 2 hours. We chose one and they did all the work including having an English speaking person assist with our tasting. The dining room and food is absolutely great. Service from the staff is attentive and they know how to run a dining room. Food is innovative wth honors to tradition and experimentation - chef and brigade are masters. Pastry chef is producing works of art. Dining room is spectacular with out door dining weather permitting. Wine list is large with a focus on Rhine and sommelier recommendations are on target. Had the Turn Suite. Room was quiet, with a large living room. Bath with jet tub. Comfortable bedroom with a large walk-in closet. Reception personnel are welcoming and worked with us for dinner reservations and suggested short trips of the tourist map. Note to management - recommend you change the carpet and freshen-up (update) the sofas in the suite. Town is small and an easy walk, including an underground passage to sit beside the Rhine and watch the boats and life cycle by. Under 30 minutes drive to FRA, traffic depending. 4.5 circles as no-wifi and other note un updating. In Hattenheim there are 4 restauarants and Wine Punkt for a tasting room for two wineries.

Room Tip: Suites for the room.

We stayed here for a couple of nights and had a pleasant stay. We had booked a suite and it was a good size with a lovely marble bathroom. The hotel is very old so there is no lift and quite a trek up the creaky stairs but this all added to the experience for us! There was a small balcony although no chairs so we had to sit on the window sills. Also there is no air con although a fan is provided so it was a bit hot at night. Also our room was on the corner adjoining the main road so it was too noisy to have the window open. For a couple of nights though this was not a problem and we found the breakfast good and the one evening meal we had was delicious although a little expensive. Beware that there is nothing in Hattenheim! Thankfully down by the river we discovered a wine hut where you could try out the local wines. But other than that there was nowhere to go. Eltville is a nice little town but 5km away so too far to walk for dinner. Not much else in the area apart from the Rhine and the vineyards. I would recommend this for a short stay and it is a bit like stepping back in time which I enjoyed. Wifi was not easy to pick up anywhere in the hotel.

Room Tip: Our suite was advertised as having views of the Rhine. Reality was you could just about see it thro...

this is a neat hotel with wonderful little park located with close proximity to the vinyards. it is also close to Frankfurt, making it a great place for a short getaway. restaurant serves delicious dishes based on local produce. the white wines of the area are fantastic. Rhein-river is basicaly on your doorstep with bike trails, boats etc.
we stayed in a lovely suite with the view of the park and had a very good time. one negative point to the lack of A/C - we survived without but had it been warmer, it might have been difficult to sleep.

This hotel was recommended by a friend who is from Germany. It was superb! Right out of an old time fairy tale. Beautiful rooms with antiques and large beds. Bathrooms of old wold marble. Restaurant elegant and delicious. You can hop on a ferry to see the Rhine . Or take the train.

We stayed in this delightful hotel for 2 nights in early May 2012, as a stopover on our trip down to Bavaria.
We have stayed here previously , and have always found it most enjoyable . The rooms are comfortable , furnished in an elegant traditional style .... The bathroom for room 23 was quite large, bedroom was very comfortable and spacious .
The staff are very helpful and friendly , but the food is absolutely outstanding .
There are 2 restaurants, a bistro serving delicious regional inspired dishes, and a magnificent fine dining restaurant, in a beautifully appointed room .
The well known chef , Patrik Kimpel ,is an absolute master of balancing exquisite flavours in his dishes. All our meals were perfect ,both in the bistro and in the main restaurant . Our waiter/sommelier was charming and very helpful ....also recommending nearby wineries to visit.
The hotel may seem, on arrival, as being rather close to a busy road, but this is not noticeable, once inside , and the main outlook from the hotel is towards a very pretty garden and terrace on the side . The view of the barges on the Rhine from the upper rooms is also very relaxing.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the garden/ terrace side are quiet

The hotel looks great from the outside, but the bed and chairs are quite old and uncomfortable. The stairs and floors on upper levels are a bit uneven and could easily trip people. There is English-speaking staff, which is not particularly interested in helping the guests. The price is quite reasonable, if you book through some international booking site (not directly from the hotel).

Traditional building, standard international service, no problems; I don't understand the "do not trust" comment made by someone else. The staff were polite, intelligent and helpful

We had a junior suite: a large room (though not a "suite"), antique furniture, good sized bathroom, no view (in fact the hotel is set back from the Rhine across a very busy road).

Dinner was 95 Euros for the table d'hote (no choices) and there was also a bistro with a two-choice set meal for 45 Euros; the wine list was extensive and not cheap. The 95 Euro meal involved a very attentive maitre d'hotel describing in detail every one of the multiple courses. We thought this overpriced but gourmets may have appreciated it.

Breakfast was adequate but I have had a lot better choice in German hotels.

The biggest problem was that the hotel was dominated by a large group of businessmen using it for a meeting over three days; they were not considerate of guests who wanted a quieter time. The hotel has limited public room space so they were not in separate conference facilities, and at dinner and at breakfast the tables were arranged to suit them, leaving us disadvantaged.

The hotel is located on the edge of a small village adjacent to the main road.

Room Tip: If a good view is important, specify this when booking
