Overall impression is fine, due to marvelous hotel location. But ...
1. ... to any of You that do not speak German (like my husband) sometimes it is a challenge to communicate with hotel staff (inclusive reception desk).
2. ... used carpet with some yellow dirty spots on it does not sound romantic
3 .... No air-conditioning in 5 star hotel ??? We did not believe our eyes when we've realized upon our arrival there were no air-con in the room. With summer whether in Sellin this is a real challenge, especially taking into account not small money we've paid.

A three day saty and overall we had a lovely time - it is expensive (particularly with the poor GBP exchange rate) but very high quality.

On arrival a bad start room wasn't ready - the check out and check in times are ridiculous - and we were rather grumpy having done an overnight trip from near the Swiss border.
The manager was pleasant who we finally complained to and he hurried things along. The rooms are a bit old fashioned, but nice enough. We were on the landward side, but high up and we still had super views.
We stayed half board and the food is superb - best hotel breakfast I've had. We were so well fed we tended not to need any lunch on our outings.
The pool is superb, the gym is quite good - they didn't quite have the apparatus I needed, but it was all new and well laid out.
Cafe und Kuchen was also really good - undoing all our good work in the pool...
The location is fabulous and it is fairly easy to get to and from using public transport.
We had a fantastic time and I would love to go back there (- it would help if the Euro were to crash versus the pound.)

We stayed for 3 days at the Cliff Hotel. We were very satisfied by the overall accomodation: the rooms are clean, the service is very good although a bit "distant" for our taste, the breakfast buffet is exactly what you need: a big variety of both warm and cold dishes, always with a gourmet touch. Some of the rooms offer magnificent views of the sea and usually come with a balcony. The hotel includes fitness center, swimming pool and you can enjoy various events inside the hotel (from classical concerts to cinema). The beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms are big.
The beach is straight in front of the hotel and you can conviniently travel to Gohren or Sellin either by bus or taxi if you are not willing to spend the whole day in the hotel or if you simply want to enjoy a meal/dinner. However, the hotel offers a nice elegant restaurant and the fish is a must.
For the smokers, there is a very nice lobby in an old-style-gentleman's-club, with leather couches and armchairs; a few books are available there, plus a nice seaview.
Highly recommended hotel (one could even call it a resort) for those who enjoy days in the pure nature with urban benefits. The beach in front of the hotel is a private one, belonging to the hotel.

Room Tip: Upgrade for a deluxe room with a sea view; on a clear day the sea view is priceless.
