“Great stay.”

When arriving after an overnight ferry from Athens, the owner organised for us to be able to check into our room earlier. All the staff were extremely helpful and even drove us to the local tourist attraction as it was a hot day and a long walk.
Location and facilities are also great. Definitely recommend you stay here if possible.

Having just finished my stay at Melissa Apartments I can only say I had a mostly mixed experience.
The hotel was positioned in a great location, within walking distance to the strip but far away enough to ensure a quiet nights sleep. The rooms were of a high quality, comfortable beds and there was friendly pool-bar staff (the woman, I'm afraid I never learnt her name, was especially lovely). Furthermore, the two security guards stationed outside at night were both sound lads and I found the conveniently located supermarket 20 seconds away extremely useful, with two lovely owners.

However, unfortunately my stay at Melissa was ruined by the two owners: George, who seemed to be seriously anti-social and clearly found himself within the wrong profession, on several occasions appearing to tear his own hair out in frustration; along with his wife Ingrid who clearly took pleasure in shouting at teenagers. On at least 7 occasions (within an 11 night stay) our group was screamed at, with threats of calling the police if we didn't immediately leave the hotel. The owners' problem with us came with no apparent reason other than making noise at 4:15pm around the pool, such an outrageous act worthy of their reaction.. right?
Furthermore, until raising the issue with the owners, our group was unable to receive fresh towels on a regular basis and had to take it upon ourselves to buy more toilet roll after the owners refusal. Not the best hotel service I have ever received.

So, if the idea of staying at a hotel in a great position with the risk of being verbally abused on a daily basis, then Melissa Apartments is perfect for you.
(My advice to George and Ingrid would be to instruct your agents to only book elderly couples into your hotel, as clearly this is the target group your hotel would be better aiming for)

I visited this hotel in July 2014 with a group of my friends. The hotel overall is quite nice and in a good location with very nice pool area facilities and the English woman on the bar in the day is very friendly and pleasant and I couldn't vault her. The food is also of a good standard and is fairly priced.
Moving on to the rooms they were very spacious and were of reasonable quality however the bathrooms were a very poor standard. The shower was very small and the power was terrible. The maid would come every other day to clean the sheets however we were refused clean towels from one of the owners unless we cleaned our own rooms properly. We were also forced to by our own toilet role as this was not given frequently enough.
The worst thing about are stay however was the way in which we were treated by the owner George. The first night he burst into our room claiming we were being to noisy. The next day we went to apologies and he refused our apology and didn't listen to us. There were several other occasions which we were treated badly and the owner was rude and aggressive to us. On our second to last night me and my friends were accused of leaving a bad trip advisor review which we didn't as they found out later however we were accused of this and told that if we didn't leave the hotel we wouldn't be leaving alive!!!
Overall I must say that this is worst hotel that I have stayed at mainly down to the management as you will see from other reviews, this is clearly the main problem with the hotel. If you are planning on going on a holiday with friends to Malia I would advise you stay away from Melissa Apartments.

Entering my 8th night here at Melissa Apartments and the location is very good, close enough to the strip to walk to but far enough away to not be able to hear all of the music and shouting.

My main problem with this place is certainly the two owners (their children and the woman who works the bar are very nice). The woman owner seems unable to trust us at any time and shouts at us a lot and also the 2 other groups of lads that are in the hotel for no little reason, however she can be kind once her guard is let down. The male owner however is in a permanent stress and seems to have a huge problem with us, threatening to kick us out every day for reasons such as being loud at the pool at 4:15pm bearing in mind we was the hotels only source of income for the first 3 days. All that would be required would just be a word with one of the group to say why what we are doing makes him unhappy, but instead he goes ballistic and starts shouting saying that he is going to call the police and that he doesn't want us here so we should get out of his hotel.

Apart from this, the hotel has been good. The maid is nice (although we have been made to clean our own rooms to recieve fresh towels after 7 days of not having anything plus we had to go and get our own toilet roll because they refused to give us more) and most of te food served at the bar is cheap and nice. The two ladies next door at the supermarket are also very nice.

Stayed at Melissa Apartment in June 2014 and couldn't have selected a better hotel. We arrived after 12 in the evening and the hotel owner and security guard were there to greet us. They showed us to our rooms and explained about their hotel policies (all completely reasonable) and we're completely welcoming and very friendly. They made us feel right at home and the owner (Ingrid) even told us she'd be somewhat of a 'mum' for the stay! The hotel itself is lovely, spacious rooms, clean and tidy and a large pool area too. On our first day we met the lady that runs the pool bar - she was lovely and had plenty of advise for us on places to go and things to see and do. We were a group of girls aged 21 - 25 and this hotel was perfect for us, it was within walking distance to both the main strip and the old town so we had the best of both worlds, without any of the noise from either during the evening!
The beginning to the middle of June is still quite quiet in Malia but this worked well for us - there wasn't many other groups at the hotel and we practically had the whole pool to ourselves most days!

I would recommend this hotel to ANYONE!

I've been coming to the Melissa since 1987 and the welcome received from this lovely family has never changed. Nothing is ever too much trouble. George, Ingrid their children and Christina couldn't be more helpful. The apartments are clean, well equipped and spacious. The pool area is spotless and the breakfasts and frappe's are the best in Crete. I will be back again for sure......

Room Tip: All rooms are great standard

Just returned from yet another brilliant two weeks at the Melissa after going there for the last 20 years or so..At this time of year, it's the ideal place to relax and the hospitality is second to none.
It's really easy to see why people return year after year. Look no further, Melissa is in a really good location, just outside the Old Village, with it's traditional tavernas, yet an easy short walk to the beach and other "attractions"

Room Tip: Most rooms will have a good view of the Firework Displays at The Royal Heights, which occur on some...
