“Best place in Malia especially for couples”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2014

We have enjoyed every minute of our time with Sunvillage. Great decor , attentive friendly owners , picture perfect pool / reception area , ideal location , good price. Very romantic setting , exceptional relaxed vibe here. We spent most of our time in the pool, sunbathing on the loungers (always free ones) ,then cooling down in the gorgeous shaded areas Marina has so tastefully decorated , strolling to the beach or Oldtown in the evening. We will definitely return , I can't recommend it enough, loved it.

We stayed at the SunVillage Hotel for a week in August 2014. Marina and all the staff made us feel like home taking care of our every need. The pool area is beautiful and soooooo comfortable with a small snack bar with all the options needed for a day at the pool. The rooms are lovely, simple but well designed and comfortable. Located in the far end of the hectic side of Malia (though still a two minute walk from the center) the hotel is a quite jam in messy Malia. If you want to enjoy the business of Malia but still sleep quietly at night this is the place for you!

We recently spent a week at SunVillage, and the kids rated it as the highlight of the vacation (above Knossos Palace, the Acropolis, and the overnight ferry). The pool is gorgeous, and Marina and Maria will do everything they can to make your stay more comfortable.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool

When my Cretan friends heard we were going to Malia (2 families with 4 children aged 9, 9, 10 and 11), they thought we were mad, as it has quite a reputation for partying, drunken loutishness and noise. But luckily this charming hotel proved them wrong. It was quiet, with a lovely pool, a shady area for drinks and snacks, a very warm welcome from Marina and her family, and even cats, a dog and a parrot for the children to swoon over! The family apartments were compact but perfectly formed, with air-conditioning, balconies, a fridge and a nice shower. The rooms were cleaned every day and children were made to feel really special and welcome, even when they wanted to jump into the pool when it was lit up in the evening. Free Wifi, which means that we could even get some urgent emails done. Close to the beach (and a short drive or bus ride to an even better beach). And a perfect location for exploring Knossos, Lassithi Plateau, the Aquarium of Crete and Heraklion.
Only possible downside: if you have a room facing the back (not the pool), there may be sounds of partying and drunken singing from Malia's clubs, even though they are not that close by. You'll have to keep your windows closed.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool are quieter.

wow! highly recommended for you to visit this place! myself and my family have just returned form an excellent family holiday at this hotel and although I am not the type of person who usually does this kind of thing I felt it only right to let others know of our excellent experience.. firstly very friendly, very child friendly, my children (10 and 14)were made to feel welcome, excellent rooms, no terrible guests who ruin things for all, very relaxed environment despite being so close to town so also great location.. Marina, the manager of the hotel was very kind and helpful and her family were very sweet. the pool is great, the sunbeds excellent and never a problem getting one! even in august! drinks inexpensive and all round very good value for money whether you are 10 or 65.. overall one very happy family! see you again soon Marina!

Room Tip: sea view quieter.
