Small family run taverna near the Old Town church. Food is excellent. Service with a smile. Reasonably priced and sometimes free Raki!

Went here hoping for something different and that they also offered kleftiko. Food was average and a lot of the options were frozen which included the kleftiko and swordfish which we had.

This traditional place is just off the main road through Malia, before you go up to the Old Town, opposite the big church - if you're decently dressed go in and have a look - fabulous wall paintings.

It seems to be one of the few places that are open during the day, certainly when we were there in September so we tended to eat there for lunch. They do some nice starters, we ordered 3 or 4 and shared.

We always got a warm welcome and were pleased to see that the menu was extensive with a lot of traditional Greek dishes. The service was very good, the waitress is Diana (Deanna?) who was very welcoming at all times.

We ate there quite a lot during our 2 weeks, my OH (who has tried stiffado in many different Greek Islands) said it was one of the best he'd ever had.

I enjoyed the moussaka, soutzoukakia and Cretan chicken especially. OH had fish several times, it was Dorada (which is apparently gilthead bream) and he said it was excellent - good value too at 12 euro for the whole fish, plus veg and potatoes.

We often had free fruit and always free raki.

We thought the prices were very reasonable too, e.g. Imam 9 euro, soutzoukakia (massive portion in very tasty tomato sauce) 8.5 euro.
