We are a family of 4, 2 adults & 2 children aged 13 & 6 who recently had an unpleasant experience with this hotel. We booked the Socrates as the location seemed ideal, the pool looked great and they also had 2 bedroomed apartments. I was slightly wary due to previous reviews by groups saying that the hotel had overbooked their rooms and moved them elsewhere, I (wrongly) thought that as a family we would get the 2 bedroomed apartment we had booked. Firstly despite emailing Eva direct to arrange for the hotel minibus to collect us from the airport (confirmation from Eva was swift) when we arrived at Heraklion a taxi was there to pick us up which cost us double the price we had agreed with Eva. When we arrived at the hotel we were told that there had been a change to our rooms as they had overbooked. This was despite me emailing the manager Eva prior to our arrival and she confirmed that a 2 bedroomed apartment was booked for us. On asking to look at the room we found it was very small and only really suitable for a couple. Eva then tried to tell us that it was a 2 bedroomed apartment with one bedroom also being the kitchen/dining area. The 1 main bedroom was ok but two of us were expected to share the small kitchen area where a camp beds had been put up with the dining table moved to the balcony to make room for it. Totally unacceptable for a two week holiday for a family of four, My son could even open the fridge whilst lying in bed!! The sound insulation is very poor as we could hear every word and footstep outside the room, there is also a constant noise (day and through the night) from quad bikes and motor bikes as the hotel is situated right on a cut through road from the main highway to the beach road. The only good thing about it is the pool and bar area, where the bar staff are lovely and food is fine. We were offered an alternative hotel the following day (much nearer the strip) which we had no choice other than to accept as the four of us could not have stayed here for the two weeks. I couldn't recommend this hotel to anyone other than couples & only then if you take ear plugs & don't mind the noise that'll make sleeping difficult & don't believe when they say they can transport you to/from the airport.
