“Great place, Friendly people”

We arrived on the Sunday our wedding being the previous day and were met by Helen, a lovely women so pleasant and helpful. The room was clean and tidy with a small balcony which was nice to just sit and relax. The pool area was really nice, nice clean pool and there were plenty of sun loungers available. there was a small poolside bar here serving drinks and a variety of snacks, all reasonbly priced. In a nutshell would we stay again ?, most definately, Helen we look forward to seeing you again next year, many thanks for making our holiday so enjoyable.

Myself and my boyfriend (both 23) stayed here for 1 week at the end of May. We booked through Thompson.

Overall the hotel was great, the room was basic, but clean and had everything you would expect. One word of warning though, DON'T let Thompson charge you occupancy suppliments for staying in a 'double bed' room - no rooms have a double bed. Our rep has advised us to seek a refund of this,as it's unlikely that anyone staying here gets a double bed. We pushed the two singles together tho - the hotel staff didn't mind. The staff were friendly and the pool was clean and had more than enough space and loungers for everyone. Bring your own toilet roll, washing up liquid and a cloth however as they aren't provided. There is a safe available in your room for a €20 fee, I'd reccommend using this and not leaving anything lying about. We paid the €30 fee for air conditioning as well - it's well worth it as it gets really stuffy at night. Even in June the heat was pretty powerful during the day so pack loads of sunscreen!

As for Malia, we were a little concerned it would be crawling with 18 year olds and stag do's - but we were pleasantly suprised. Because we were there just before the real busy season starts it was fine. The hotel is positioned in the old town, about 10 - 15 mins walk to the main clubbing streets and beach so you aren't bothered by the noise or drunks! The old part of town is perfect for people like us, who want to go out once or twice but would rather be away from the mayhem most of the time. I would reccommend the San Giorgio Restaurant too (ask the hotel for directions) and Zorbas Taverna, just around the corner - both are great for traditional food and banter. Go easy on the raki though - it's strong stuff and usually poured down your neck after dinner! Also watch out for the traffic on the main road and for the crazy British teens on quads, be careful if you have little ones with you especially.

We went to 2 waterparks - both were great fun and can be booked, with transfers from Malia for about €20 - €25. I would really reccommend them, there's loads to do for both kids and adults and they are really clean and reasonably priced. Book through a local travel agent when you get there. Thompson were slightly overcharging them at the welcome meeting. We also did a BBQ Boat trip - it was good but it's not for people who get sea sick as there were plenty of people feeling very ill in the choppy water!

Overall, I'd say the hotel and Malia were great, there was loads to do nearby but it was a little busy (we here it goes completely mad in July and August so maybe best to avoid if you're not into clubbing!). The locals are great (mostly!!) and will be polite to you if you are polite to them in most cases. If you're looking something quieter, Stalis town is nearby and has a regular shuttle to and from Malia.

  • Liked — The location, away from the madness but close enough to enjoy it some nights!
  • Disliked — No double bed, drinks at bar a little expensive.

We expected a rowdy and somewhat seedy small room as we had only booked for two nights in order to visit the Minoan ruins in Malia. Our room was spacious and clean although it rained in when we suffered a sudden storm ... we were on the ground floor. Helen (Eleni?) who administered the rooms was extremely helpful and suggested a lovely restaurant nearby which served some excellent and truly Cretan food. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the internet access was good.
However, the cleaners were offhand, giving me a mop for our floor and swooping on 'fridge contents before we left. We would go back if we needed a couple of nights after a late Heraklion flight.

  • Liked — Quiet area of very noisy town
  • Disliked — No sea views

The San Giorgio apartments are a lovely place to stay with just one exception. The pool is one of the nicest i have stayed at and the bar staff are extremely friendly and chatty. The apartments are a 10 minute walk from a wide array of bars and a further 10 minute walk from the beach. The maids are the only problem, the one looking after our room rummaged through our belongings and stole money, we even discovered she had taken a pair of our shoes!
