“A Great Overnight Stop”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

We stayed here one night while traveling though. We were pleasantly surprised to find how nice the hotel was after seeing how rough the community looked. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. We were glad that there was a restaurant/pub in the hotel because it was an easy solution for supper. The fish and chips were very good and generous.

The rooms in the hotel were good, not fancy but nicely appointed with comfortable beds and nice bathroom. I had a very good sleep! There were no problems with the WiFi which was a pleasant change from some of the locations we stayed in.

Breakfast was a little confusing. We went to the pub area and it seemed to be almost deserted. Apparently breakfast is only set up in one area of the pub. Once staff found us and moved us over everything went smoothly and we had a pleasant breakfast. It was nice to be offered an omelette as a breakfast option.

The town of Rathkeale itself does not appear to have much for attractions. I wouldn't plan this as a destination but it was a great place to stop in our journey.

Stayed one night enroute to the ring of Kerry. Hotel is large, clean and well appointed. Staff were friendly and efficient. Wi Fi worked well in my room (104). Breakfast was good.
Location is just off the main street.
I slept soundly and was surprised when told the next day thatthere was a function with lots of children that night.

I recently spent two weeks here while working in Newcastle West. I could not have asked for better hospitality. Damien and his staff were so friendly and ready to attend to anything I needed. The rooms were very clean and spacious and the hotel was very well kept.

The restaurant had excellent food and friendly local bunch that also frequented it and were very welcoming to the various travelers passing through.

If I had to to stay in Rathkeale or anywhere in the vicinity again I would definitely be staying here!

I stayed here with a work colleague on a business trip to Kerry. We arrived very late and the receptionist was very accommodating and welcoming. The room was perfect. Lovely clean beds. The bathroom was very nice - I was raging I didn't have time to have a bath! We had to leave at the crack of dawn. Even though breakfast wasn't starting for another hour we were offered tea, coffee, cereal, toast. Couldn't have been more accommodating and I was really pleased. Thank you Rathkeale House Hotel!! :)

The power cuts forced us to book a room here. I think they may have been under staffed to cope with the numbers staying there. I waited around ten minutes at reception for someone to check me in. The rooms were okay, clean and functional but nothing special. My friends' toilet didn't flush and nothing was done to fix it so that wasn't very pleasant for the. We had a decent carvery meal and the breakfast was good, I had a very nice omelette and my friends enjoyed their full Irish. The staff were lovely but run off their feet.

We stayed here because of its location in relation to our family history, and found the place to be excellent - the accommodation was of a high standard, the bar and restaurant were comfortable and the menu varied and food well presented and delicious, the staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful beyond expectation right down to providing Vegemite. However a winter warning: the room heating and hot water were turned off at about 9pm.

Originally booked for 2 but stayed for 4 days, This couple were attentive to all our needs.
Damian was an outstanding host and Brenda his wife was wonderfully cordial. The Hotel is beautifully restored with many interesting items on shelves throughout. The food was excellent and our room was quite comfortable and attractive. This wonderful couple drove us to our destination when we found we were unable to secure a taxi on a Sunday. The full Irish Breakfast was sensational and this is truly a Beautiful, Warm, Spotles, Convenient and Friendly lodging!

Ireland seems to have high sides on their bathtubs making it quite difficult to get in and out. We found this to be so at almost every place we stayed, so of course we are not faulting the hotel, but be aware this is something one frequently encounters in Ireland.

Room Tip: We liked being on the first floor
