We booked with Thomson sometime ago at a pretty good price, compared with mid summer.
A friend of ours had stayed there last year and was very complimentary.
Unfortunately the weather was pretty dismal for the first half of our one weeks stay but improved as the week went on.
With the hotel being fairly high up the cloud level meant that at times it was pretty foggy, however, when clear the views were amazing.
The fantastic service and food, which the hotel staff provided, made the holiday experience a great one.
The restaurant was buffet for breakfast, with an omelette station if wanted, with all the usual dishes on offer - and to a very high standard. (Don’t know how one of the reviewers says that it compares with school food - she must have gone to a pretty good school if she does!)
Maitre D - Angelo was the focalpoint of the restaurant and he always made you feel special – although he will be dealing with thousands of holidaymakers throughout the year.
Waiters and waitresses were all extremely helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
Lunch was also buffet style but in the poolside outdoor area with a wood burinng pizza oven (pizzas were wonderful – compliments to the chef –
Dinner was probably the best with both a menu service and buffet.
The menu changed each day. The food was wonderful.
On some nights there were theme events such as Red Carpet or Fusion and the restaurant was dressed accordingly.
Evening entertainment was provided by D n A who were extremely professional and as hotel entertainment goes were very good. Maybe a few other options as well as the duo would help but they couldn’t be faulted.
As with all the other staff the bar staff were always around to serve drinks quickly and with a friendly smile.
Beer was draught Peroni, spirits were both local and international brands.
Wines were red, white or sparkling and that’s about all I can say. Tried the white once but didn’t like it,didn’t try the red and the sparkling was a Spumante that went down OK with the evening meal.
You were more likely to be served with a bottle or two, rather than a glass or two.
The reception staff were also helpful.
My wife and our two friends find it difficult to find fault with this hotel.
As previously stated on another review it isnt a 5 star hotel but is definitely a very good 4 star.
The courtesy buses are free into Sorrento and back with a good timetable.
Last but not least we should not forget Alessandro the Thompson representative who looked after us during our stay – one of the best reps we have had for friendliness, helpfulness,professionalism and local knowledge.

Room Tip: Try for a sea view or limited seaview. The annexe have some rooms with full sea view.

Realised the hotel was out of town before we booked but the actual distance was a bit of a shock. Much too far to walk into town with roads that are dangerous in a car, never mind on foot. This made us feel a tad isolated, especially with the bad weather. The hotel itself is lovely and the staff are genuinely friendly and eager to please. That goes for reception, bar staff and restaurant staff alike.
I'm a below average cook and when I go out to eat I rate food in relation to if I could have made it better myself. I expect to pay good money for food that has been made by a professional cook and to a standard I could never achieve in a million years. The food in this hotel, for us, was a little mixed. Sometimes it was good, other times just average and occasionally very poor. The worst meal we had, amazingly, was the a la carte. We had about four pork chops which just consisted of fat and bone. Coffee at breakfast is like engine oil, orange juice is NOT orange juice and the milk for the cereal is......milk coloured. The bread for toast is quite tasty and fresh though.
Rooms very noisy in main building, as I didn't have a single nights sleep without being disturbed, by either thoughtless fellow guests returning to their rooms, foot traffic from the floor above or the noise of shutters coming up or down. Also on Mondays and Fridays expect to be woken early by suitcases being dragged along the floor.
The shuttle bus is handy, especially the one at 23-30. This allowed us to go into Sorrento for a lovely meal, have a few drinks and then get a lift back. Obviously not very popular as we were the only ones on.
The Thomson rep, Allesandro, worked really hard and his walking tour around Sorrento is not to be missed. Thomson have a gem here, so make the most of him as he will be moving on to bigger and better things no doubt.
In summary, great hotel, great staff, poor location and at best average food. We wouldn't return to this hotel but possibly would to Sorrento. Hope this helps !!

We booked this hotel with Thomson a week before we arrived at the hotel. Whilst booking we found out our daughter and her husband had stayed there in October 2011 and were really impressed.

Our stay was marred by the storms and virtual constant rain and with the hotel fairly high up the cloud level meant at times it was like constant fog. However, if it had not been for the fantastic service and food which the hotel staff provided, the holiday would have been a far different story!

The restaurant was buffet for breakfast with all the usual dishes on offer but to a very high standard. You were always met be the Maitre D - Angelo or his assistant. All were wearing bow ties and nothing was too much trouble. Lunch was buffet style and dinner was probably the best with a menu service as well as a buffet. For the ten days we were there we never had the same menu twice! The food was spectacular! On some nights there were theme events such as Black & White or Red Carpet and the restaurant was dressed accordingly by Clementine the events coordinator.

Evening entertainment was provided by the superb D n A duo who's repertoire and professionalism leaves other hotel entertainers seriously lacking! The bar staff lead by Carmaine were superb and a special mention about Antonio who on one night served the entire reception area on his own and never once made a mistake. How he remembered everything is beyond me. The reception staff were also helpful.

My wife and I found it difficult to find fault with this hotel and we have stayed in many. This is not a 5 star hotel but definitely a very good 4 star. Giovanni the Director personally oversaw everything and when we had a slight problem with our wardrobe door, he instigated its repair and was keen to find out about how they could improve the room (we suggested more wardrobe space).

I am never this positive about reviews but if it bad I would say so but in this case it it was good - very good indeed!

If you are work in the hotel trade (and neither my wife or I do), stay here and see how a hotel should be run! The crockery, cutlery and glasses were cleaned to perfection.

There are beautiful walks around the hotel and fantastic views (when the cloud lifted!). The courtesy bus was free into Sorrento and back with good time intervals.

We never ever go back to the same resort or hotel, but will do with our friends hopefully soon and in better weather. We want to walk in the beautiful countryside we could do this time.

Well done Nastro Azzurro - keep it up!

What a fantastic hotel. Even though it's a way out of Sorrento the views make this hotel a fabulous place to stay. Our spacious room was in the main building with a huge patio area, and a decent sized bathroom. Silva our chambermaid kept everything looking wonderful, the heating and air con in our room again was really good. The gardens with hot tubs, the swimming pool with its own restaurant and bar are all a delight again giving wonderful views. The staff just cannot do enough for all the guests. Angelo welcomes everyone to the restaurant, making all the guests feel so special. His team are so courteous and helpful serving up the delicious food and keeping the buffet choices well stocked at all times. There are theme nights and excellent entertainment.

The only down side of our holiday was the rain - which no one can FIX !! In 50 years of holidays we have never had such poor weather, thank goodness we chose such a wonderful hotel. In the evenings we enjoyed the resident duo who catered for all the different ages of the guests. Antonio was always making sure everyone had seat, even when six of us wanted to sit together. Danielle on reception helped everyone, I never saw her without a smile.

All the staff at the Grand Hotel should be proud of themselves for how hard they work to make everyone’s holiday so special.

When we stayed at Nastro Azzuro Hotel & lucky enough to have 3 days of Sunshine out the 10 we were there. And believe me when it rains it really rains. None of this reflects on the standards of the hotel both on facilites or service. Because of the weather all guests were confined to reception area at times. The staff coped with this so well.

We found the rooms to be clean and comfortable. We had no problems with bath mats we just had a shower cubicle. Just one note:about the water for some reason on some days it was at best just warm in the evenings in the main building rooms that we were in. But lovely and hot in the mornings. Not a huge problem but at the end of a day sight seeing a nice hot shower is something to look forward to. We didnt complain we managed with it but I am sure the hotel will sort it out.

The food was for AI really good and everyone should be able to find something from the huge choices available. We found all the staff pleasent friendly and nothing seemed to much trouble.

The Bar staff are on the ball and were asking if you required drinks even before finishing the last one. This is purely out of good service because no money passes hands so not for reward. This applies to coffee, wine or a beer. But to be honest we found that you could have what ever you wanted none of the local drinks only at this hotel, anything and everything was on the AI.

The day after we got to the hotel they did the usual welcome meeting. We normally dont bother with them and prefer to find our own way but because of the rain we went for something to do. We were pleasantly surprised, Alessandro made it very interesting and does a free walk around Sorrento in the afternoon (poor man), I think pretty much everyone pitched up to go and he had to provide 3 big coaches to take us all. He was informative,funny and very patient with around 120 people following him around town. Well Done Alessandro!!

We did the Rome in a day trip. Well worth it. It is a very early start and quite late back around 10:30pm but try to do it if you have never been. The Guide that took us was so entertaining he certainly knew his stuff and his Karaoke singing down the coach mike on the way home was brilliant and so funny.it certainly made the journey easy to do.
If you do Pompeii and you feel brave enough to branch out on your own go by train from Sorrento it is really easy to do and gives you the freedom of time the trains run every 20 minutes. The train stops right outside Pompeii. We sought out a guide when got there and she was excellent and certainly pointed out things that we just couldnt have known had we just wondered round by ourselves.

We do hope to return sometime in the future and maybe go a little later so that we can really see what this hotel could be like in the Sunshine because we really liked it even in the rain. So it must be truely amazing when the sun shines on this Sorrento gem of a hotel.

I think between us all on TA the reviews have covered everything but just ask if not.

Room Tip: The rooms that have the side or full Sea Views are certainly the best if you can afford the extra.

The problem with reading everyone’s glowing reviews is that you go with really high expectations, and mine were certainly not met here.

In fact i was underwhelmed, and certain things were just blah.

Yes the rooms were clean, refurbished so no scuffs, but the pillows were rock hard and the bed was too hard for Hubby. Toiletries were cheap and nasty and never replaced, we also had to ask for extra loo roll!! We did have a lovely balcony, but it was April and never used. We were in the main block, and one thing that drove me mad was the every time you opened the slide doors on the wardrobes they made a racket, so you can hear everyone else opening and shutting doors all day and evening.

The Food just isn’t fabulous, breakfasts were never varied and lukewarm, they can’t seem to keep any of the buffet food warm, and the tea and coffee were cold, i think they had a boiler in the kitchen and just left pots of water in back ready to serve, yuck, we could never get it boiling hot and gave up. We didn’t bother a few days.
Lunches and dinners are ok, the best thing at lunch was the pizzas as they have an oven, but evening service was usually very bland, veggies were boiled to death and again they never changed the variation of the salad / starter buffet, although you can also have starters served to you, it was mostly sub par ( hubs did have a nice risotto one eve) but it’s a shame, we go to this country because the food is always amazing, so we went out to eat four nights and found some amazing places, why go there for a week or two and eat insipid food.
I also found the evening service really rushed as it was busy and it was a bit canteen like, get the plates out as fast as possible and the staff are rushing around, i didn’t find it a relaxing atmosphere at all. Very school dinners.
Also, the wine was horrible, they changed brands half way through the week! Yuck, cheap and cheerful.

A huge bugbear was the wifi only available in the lobby! It is available hardwired in the rooms at 5 euro a day !! but I’m sorry in this day and age we travel with tablets and Smartphone’s, as a lot of planning and researching is done with them and it would be great if they offered free wifi in the rooms! In the lobby we had to sit near to the desk to get a reasonable signal. We had torrential rain over half the week so spent a fair bit of time in the lobby! Same with the TV, ( I’m a tv addict) so considering this is a Thomson hotel, serving primarily English people, to have only BBC and CNN in English was very boring! Yes it rained, but even in summer, i would sometimes like to go upstairs with a glass of wine and watch a movie, they need to upgrade!

The staff were fine, if you asked, they weren’t proactive, but all very friendly.
We had a car, thank god, as i couldn’t stay there a week with no transport, too restrictive, but again some would be happy to.
They did have an amazing couple perform most evenings, he was a sax player and both sung really well.

So we wouldn’t return, but i hope they sort the Wifi and TV, so others get a better experience, it was very average and thank god i got a cheap deal, I’d be very upset if i’d paid some of the prices i have seen.

My wife and I spent a week at this hotel from 13-20 April 2012 which probably coincided with the wettest weather I have ever encountered (which reall is something for a Scot). All I can say is thst despite the awful weather, the ambiance, food, service and location of this hotel more than made up for the lack of sunshine. Quite simply the place was exceptional and it was obvious that the priority of all staff were to ensure that customer servce was first and foremost (this was echoed by all that we talked to). It is abundantly clear that the staff at the Nastro Azzuro are well trained, well rewarded and love their work.

We were located in the Occhio Marino building and the room was spacious, exceedingly clean, well equipped without being luxurious, and had stunning views of the surrounding countryside. I will say though, consistent with at least one other reviewer, the bath mats are lethal ..... take care getting in and out of the shower (this though is the only gripe).

Back to the staff, Angelo and his team in the Restaurant were fabulous hosts and as for the bar staff they work their butts off, are polite, cheerful and nothing is too much trouble; Antonio in particular is a star. Also and perhaps slightly unusually for a hotel, the resident singers (D'n'A) were awesome.

This hotel is a fantastic base within a beautiful area of the Sorrentine Peninsula and the pool, gardens and hot tub area is blessed with probably the finest views I have ever seen from any hotel pool (Although it was fro under my umbrella!!). If this is a part of the world you want to visit, I would strongly advise that this hotel will not be beaten for value and especially service; it is quite simply the best and I cannot wait to go back.
