Trullo Giancone is a traditional stone built property about 10 mins outside the nearest town of Martina Franca. It has 4 bedrooms and a wonderful pool with great views over the olive groves of the val D'Istria and fantastic sunsets across the fields every night. If you are looking for a very peaceful, rustic holiday (we were!) this property is ideal. The owners were incredibly helpful, meeting us en route to show us how to find the property (it is down an unmarked, narrow track, off a small country lane) and coming to maintain the pool & plants every few days, and offering tips on local places to visit. Thank you Erica!
The trullo itself is very clean and well looked after, with plenty of fresh towels supplied. Bedrooms were a good size, and there was a large dining / living room as the main room. There is a TV provided, but to be honest we didn't switch it on once! The kitchen is small and quite basic and could use a few more facilities. It was actually sufficient for our means as there were only 4 of us staying - and we used the outdoor BBQ a fair amount too. But if we were a larger group we may have struggled a bit.
We happened to be staying during a bit of a heatwave - 41 degrees most days - so the lovely large pool and the shady canopy were very much appreciated! The trullo itself doesn't have air conditioning but the design of the property means that the rooms stay reasonably cool (so long as you shut the doors & windows!)
Although the property is quite remote, there is a local shop, bar and a couple of restaurants about a 5 min drive from the trullo. And towns such as Cisternino, Locorotondo and Martina Franca are only 10/15 mins away. Ostuni and Alberobello are also both within easy reach - all are worth visiting.
Because of the very rural, countryside setting, there are a lot of bugs, insects, small creatures and wildlife around - which we were totally fine with, and the kids were fascinated by - but it could be off-putting for some.
All in all, we spent a very peaceful & relaxing holiday reading, swimming and switching off from the modern world for a few days! The outdoor seating areas are really lovely with flower beds & rendered walls & seats. It is very well maintained & cared for - and you can always find somewhere to sit in the sun or shade. Evenings were spent enjoying at the outdoor table by the pool, enjoying the sunsets and views with anti-pasta and local wine. Perfect as an antidote to London life for a while! Thank you, Trullo Giancone, for a lovely peaceful family holiday in the heart of the trulli region of Puglia. We all had a fantastic time.
