Hotel Palazzo Failla
Ranked #2 of 18 Hotels in Modica
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 27 May 2014

The hotel is located in a baroque palazzo and is personally run by Signore Failla and family. We had two rooms and spent two nights at the hotel. There was great disparity in the size and decor of both rooms. While most old buildings like Palazzo Failla present a challenge when it comes to offering consistent features and comfort, one of the rooms was not up to expected standards for its price. Common areas and rooms would benefit from updating to bring the hotel up to its advertised 4-star rating. The personal service was corteous and efficient.

what a wonderful hotel, what wonderful staff, what a great location. and the restaurant is fantastic, too. i cannot say enough good things about this hotel. we stayed for a few days while visiting southeastern sicily. it was a great location as a base. the room that we stayed in was amazing...a corner master bedroom that was indeed the 'jewel' that it was advertised as. and may i just say a special thank you to the staff? they were so friendly, so accommodating, and so gracious. it was a pleasure to stay here. i highly recommend this hotel.

We have just completed a driving tour of the Baroque towns of eastern Sicily, spending two nights in Syracuse/Ortygia, and one night in Noto, Pozzallo, Modica, Ragusa/Ibla, Piazza Armerina, and Catania - eight nights, and seven different hotels (23-30 April 2014). Our party comprised two adult couples (residents respectively of London and Paris) with exacting, metropolitan tastes. By general consent, the Palazzo Failla was by far the best of our hotels. The receptionist offered us a choice between a room in the hotel's "La Locanda del Colonnello" and a room in the main building (Camera 103), and we chose the latter; our friends were accommodated in a room next door. Other guests have posted photographs of Camera 103 on the Tripadvisor website; most of these photos fail to do it justice: it is an incredibly spacious suite, providing a degree of luxury for which one would expect to pay much, much more. We dined in the adjacent "Ristorante La Gazza Ladra". Like in the hotel, the service here is exceptional - but we gave higher marks to Ciccio Sultanos "Duomo" (Ragusa). The same, sparsely decorated room is used in the morning for breakfast. The buffet was the best we encountered during our trip. Hotel Palazzo Failla has our highest possible recommendation.

Styed April4-8, 2014. This family run hotel is fantastic!!! We arrived in Pozallo, the ferry station from Malta, and our car was reserved thru Hertz. The location was closed. We arranged for a taxi to take us to the Hotel in Modica. From there it was pure joy, between American Express Concierge service who did not do a good job and needing a geography lesson, the hotel and Amex got a vehicle for us and the Hotel owner himself drove me into Ragusa to get the vehicle the next day. The service is just fantastic, and the restaurant is a keeper as well has a Michelin Star and the chef personally checks on the dinners.
Would strongly encourage anyone looking in the Noto, Ragusa, Modica area to seriously consider this hotel.

Room Tip: The room we had was a period piece from the 19th-20th century and was roomy and lovely overlooking t...

This family owned and run hotel is very delightful. Each room is distinctive and comfortable. The location is central to much of the old city. We had a delicious dinner in their restaurant. My only complaint was that one of the rooms occupied by a member of our group had an odor that unfortunately was related to the septic system.

We spent three nights at this beautiful family run hotel. The owners and staff are exceptionally helpful and professional. Our bed room had been the old sitting room in the Palazzo and with it's high frescoed ceiling, antique furniture, old beautiful tiled floor and balcony was a delight. The elegant dining room is where breakfast is served and later becomes a Michelin starred restaurant. Breakfast is not to be missed with homemade cakes, jams and puddings, fresh fruit, cold meats, local cheeses and excellent coffee. We had a memorable meal in the restaurant which does an excellent rate for hotel residents. The hotel also has a locanda close by where we had a lovely meal of traditional dishes. The hotel also organised a guided tour, for residents, of the beautiful baroque town of Modica.

We booked a hotel in Modica as we wanted to tour the hillside towns of this area. We loved the unassuming feel of this town. Palazzo Failla is family owned/operated with a warm, friendly while professional atmosphere. We were upgraded to a suite with balcony with only slight increase in price. After settling in we walked through the streets of town and found a great pizzeria not far from the hotel. Great food and rustic rock walls inside creating an authentic atmosphere. After dinner we walked through town and found a great piazza overlooking lower Modica. Breakfast was amazing! It was by far the best breakfast buffet of our three week trip. Incredible variety of fruits, pastries, meats & juices. The staff was very attentive to details to make our stay as comfortable as possible from upgrading our room to their courtesy parking of our car! Don't miss the chocolate as Modica is famous for this. It was delicious!!!

Room Tip: We had reserved a standard double room, but were offered an upgraded suite for a small price increas...
