“Needs Improvement”
Reviewed 8 September 2012

We booked 3 nights at this hotel and were excited to be in a quiet area and just relax by a pool.
The room was large with 2 beds..a single and king..overlooking the courtyard to the entrance of restaurant below. That all seemed good until we realized the AC was really loud but not much air coming out. The room was getting very hot so we opened the windows. Nice breeze came in but so did the smoke from all the smokers below that go to the restaurant or work there. Plus the pots pans singing whistling..made it hard to sleep until after 3. We closed the windows but the AC really was not working so once all the people were gone..we finally thought we would get peace. NOPE..the barking dogs (common in Sicily..why I will never know) kept us up. So we closed the windows and put on AC that sounded like a transport truck..got 3 hours sleep and woke up to 90 degree room. The sad thing is..this is a new owner and you would think he would know that there is noise from below. They did know about the AC..and said someone was coming to fix it..whatever...we told them we were checking out. They didn't seem to care..showed us one tiny cell like room..which we declined..and we left. Found a hotel called Ponte Nord Est..which is on water clean and really nice staff. It's not amazing but not terrible. A tip for the new owner. Take a half hour and roll some new paint on the walls. They are totally banged up and looks like crap. Sleep in the room..hear what we hear. Why should your guests suffer for you to make money. *** The Restaurant La Batia..that is attached to the hotel is excellent! It is not run by the hotel.

Room Tip: Do not book room 208..or make sure AC is working and be prepared for night time noise from the court...

A delightful boutique style hotel, with friendly and helpful staff – La Batia is a great base for the Palermo area and for visiting the west side of Sicily. The rooms are pleasant, although it’s a shame that most don’t have balconies. The pool and patio area is fabulous and a great place for a pre-dinner drink. The separately run restaurant which is attached to the hotel offers fantastic food and a wide ranging menu so you can happily eat there without going further afield. The hotel is located on the outskirts of town, so you will need a car to get about or to drive to other restaurants. A vast and delicious buffet breakfast is provided in the hotel dining room – although there is a lovely adjoining courtyard where you can eat al fresco and enjoy the great Sicilian weather.

We stayed for 3 days, we really enjoyed it, pool is great, sunbeds as well, breakfast was delicious.

It was all perfect apart for two minor things: acoustic insulation of the 404 (we could hear the neighbours showering and talking) and the location if you are heading for Scopello in Mid-August (too much traffic if you are not an early morning bird).

Overall, i would absolutely stay again. Recommended

I spent a truly delightful week with my family in La Batia hotel. When selecting hotels in Sicily, our intent was to find a place in which we could relax, taste genuine Italian cuisine and make short trips by car to places we would be advised to see as a must. Perfect choice!! La Batia has unique character in style, caring and friendly staff and is so much different from places where you feel as yet another element of a massive tourist industry. The hotel itself needs some improvements though. But as we noticed during our stay they've already been taken care of by a current owner.

For those who want to stay away from crowded beaches, scorching sun and menu turistico, I highly recommend romantic bays of Mazzi di Sciacca and La Batia restaurant with our Polish jewel Ms Bożena working as a waitress.

Avoid Palermo and Erice in summer!! Dirt, noise and menu turistico.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on the 2nd floor. Noisy mainly due to the construction of cardboard walls.

Right I shall declare my concerns at the start then you can make up your own mind.
The location is great for a base to tour the north west of Sicily. Easy access to Erice, Palermo castelemmare etc. however, it is on the edge of Alcamo and you really need a car particularly if staying a few nights. With no pavement to the road walking is not really an option!

I booked a suite and the room offered really did not meet my definition being basically an ordinary room but with a mezzanine floor added to house the bed. Unfortunately the poor design meant that there was nowhere to sit and only five inches of space on one side of the bed. the lower flor was taken up by the bathroom, the stairs and a bed, which we didn't need or want. The real problem was the lack of soundproofing and even "normal" conversations could be overheard. I spent a few hours listening to our neighbours snoring and their tv which they had left on.

On the positive side the staff were really helpful breakfast were good if a little sweet and the pool area very pleasant. Be aware that much of the pool is in shade during the latter part of the day and ther are not enough loungers if the pool is busy.

There is a restaurant next to the hotel which is very good serving excellent meals. We ate there a few times as there is little elsewhere in Alcamo and enjoyed every meal. Again staff helpful if a tad disorganised.

Would I stay again? If in Alcamo then probably yes but otherwise no.

Room Tip: Be careful about a suite!

It was very easy to find the hotel and park the car. Our quadruple-room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was excellent (home-made cakes etc.). Very kind staff. We visited the Segesta temple in the evening, because it was near the hotel.

The hotel is lovely with lots of character and lots of tranquil areas to relax particularly the pool area. There are beautiful tiles and stone work throughout the hotel.
However during our stay there were workmen working on the kid's pool and the roof terrace was out of service. The ongoing work was noisy and disruptive to what should have been a relaxing holiday. At no point was there an explanation given either on the website or at check-in. This disturbed the peace and tranquility of our holiday. Every time we had to go past the workmen to go to our room. There is also some other works being carried out nearby (possibly a new road?) and trucks were coming and going all day long.
The hotel is in the middle of an industrial area and if you do not have a car there is nowhere for you to go. There is a very nice restaurant attached to the hotel (different ownership) which offers a great variety of food in a typically sicilian ambiance. The service was excellent. However the restaurant is closed on Mondays. There is nowhere to eat during the day at the hotel. On the plus side the breakfast waitress is a true professional and she was the best thing about the hotel.
I think the hotel is suitable for short stays but not for longer holidays. Also it is not great for teenagers as there is nothing for them to do. Overall for us a disappointing choice.
