“A Tuscan gem”

We spent last week at Tenuta la Cipresseta and highly recommend it as wonderful base for exploring central Tuscany.

We were in the Quercia apartment; it was immaculately clean, comfortably furnished, and was fitted with everything necessary for a comfortable week. Since we were traveling for a full month it was great to have a break from always eating out, and the kitchen was well enough equipped to enjoy cooking all our dinners "at home" . Having a dishwasher helped in making that decision!

The fireplace created a cozy atmosphere on several evenings, and the in- suite washing machine was a great convenience..

Rosita was a warm, friendly and caring hostess.

Given the opportunity, we would gladly return.

“Stunning views and charming accommodations at a very fair price.”

What a find! The vistas will take your breath away.

Apartments are charming, cozy, convenient and reasonable! All four apartments have lovely gardens with outside seating. The building is built onto a slope, so two apartments are upper and two lower. Cipresso and Leccio are located on the same level as the road and parking. Leccio is the most easily accessible (no stairs) and Cipresso is also easily accessible with just a couple of stairs to the front door. Ginestra and Quercia, on the lower level, are accessed by a long ramp down the hill. Stunning views all around, but the best views from garden patios are from Ginestra and Quercia- hills of Cypress and a few old farm houses. Thoughtfully placed away from the main building, and down the hill a bit, is the pool with gorgeous views.

This is my fourth trip to Italy, and third to Tuscany. The location of this estate is VERY good. You are less than an hour from Florence, 20 minutes to Siena and 20 to San Gimignano, and yet you’re far enough south that you can do day trips to Val d’Orcia as well. Volterra is also only one hour away, and in my opinion, the prettiest drive of them all. The town of Poggibonsi is a quick 10 minute drive from the estate, providing easy access to stores, restaurants, gas, etc. Yet you feel like you are miles and miles away from everything, surrounded by beautiful countryside. This will be our return spot; it beats the other apartments that we’ve rented in the past, which have all been lovely but this ROCKS: setting, comfort, amenities and location.

We stayed in Il Cipresso for a week in late March. The apartment was SPOTLESS. The modern, fully equipped kitchen worked like a charm. The bathroom, including shower, was unusually large. It included a washing machine, and drying rack, which we used several times.

Wi-fi strength was excellent. Satellite TV had many, many channels, but only a few English speaking: Bloomberg, CCTV, and a “True TV” movie channel with really bad 80’s made-for-TV movies; periodically BBC would come in and out. (A word of warning to my fellow Americans; you cannot stream Netflix, Hulu, cable, nor any network programs. All the US and English sites I tried blocked me out, due to the international IP address. So, download movies or programs in advance of your trip).

The estate seems to be both dog and child friendly, as fellow guests checked in with both. Be sure to buy the very delicious and affordable Chianti and olive oil from the estate. The helpfulness and care of the folks at Tenuta la Cipresseta was a delight. They truly want you to enjoy your stay.

One final note. Our GPS fell short on helping us find the location, so be prepared. We found that the directions on the website needed more detail too. Here’s some extra notes: take Poggibonsi Nord exit off of the A1; at the roundabout, take the first exit onto SR2 towards Barberino Val d’Elsa; almost immediately, take the first right, towards Monsanto (you will see a small Tenuta la Cipresseta sign mixed in with a bunch of other signs). Reset your odometer to zero. At 0.6 km, turn right towards Monsanto; at 1.5 km veer right; at 2.1 km cross the bridge and continue up the hill; at 3.9 km stay to the left on the high road. At approximately 4.1 km see the small Tenuta la Cipresseta sign on your right, turn right and continue on the dirt road. When you reach the stone buildings at the end of the road, turn left and follow the signs to la Cipresseta. Believe me, it is worth the hunt!
