“What a magnificant property”

We have been spoiled by Borgo Petrognano. Samuel and particularly Roberta have been so generous and helpful to us. We are using public transport and we were collected from Barberino Val d'Elsa station to bring us to the hotel. Local restaurant is delightful. The 3 km walk to Barberino was great exercise, but not too taxing. Enjoy.

Room Tip: The tower room with its view of San Gimignano was great

We decided to get married during our Tuscany holiday. The agency offered us several places and in the end we decided for Borgo Petrognano. And - we do not regret. The place itself is very nice with a beautifull panoramatic views from the terrace. Upon our arrival, we were firstly given the wrong room, but it was mainly my fault as I probably didn't clearly stated that we have a booking done through the wedding agency. Anyway - everything was quickly resolved, the guy helped us to move our luggage and even surprised us with bottle of Prosecco as an apology. The suite was wonderful, especially the bathroom is breathtaking. Next day we had the wedding in the garden, then enjoyed the dinner in restaurant next door (up-market prices, but splendid food, certainly worth of it). If I should mention something negative, there would be only small things - yes, the coffee at the breakfast buffet was awfull, but you can ask for a proper espresso, so no problem at all. At our suite - some of the dishes were probably not washed after previous guest, and the pillows in the bottom room were slightly dusty. That's all I could think of. The entire property is well maintained, pool area clean, internet reliable. As said before - they can work on couple of tiny details to brings this place to a perfection, but in overall we were more than satisfied and will always think of it as a special place for us..

While indeed, this place is restored beautifully, our experience was disappointing. Their webpage shows lovely rooms with beds that are actually up off the floor. The Tower Suite, which we were assigned to, had about 70 steps to climb to get to bed. When booking, I explained we were two couples, in our 70's....and was not expecting to have to climb so many steps to get to bed or bath. Really difficult and unsafe. Not for aging folks. Our room and our friends room's beds were on the floor, not on a bedframe, so getting up and down was also difficult. The bathrooms could use better lighting, Kleenex, The linens and pillows are not great. They need to better explain the Tower Suite on their website, and don't be fooled by their photos....as our beds were not very good. The breakfast was ok...not wonderful. We never met the owner, just the brother in law who worked very hard, long hours, and seemed tired all the time. the terrace can be hazardous also, as It has levels, and one can trip easily if you aren't paying attention. This is a beautiful place with a wonderful view, just lacking in staff...just a few improvements would make it so much better.

Room Tip: Be sure you have someone explain the layout of the room. Is the bed a mattress on the floor? How m...

The good points: the view, the situation, the covered parking (good point during summer...)
The disappointing points : this not an hotel, and not even a B&B : Service is more than poor, there is NO service. Quidk check-in, no advices, no map, no really care...During your stay the person which sometimes at the desk doesn't say "good morning"...Crazy ! Sometimes, you can meet the owner in the evening, who is very nice, but, it's only sometimes. When asking for such prices, you must invest in service, have somebody 24 hours a day, able to give useful advices, and able to provide drinks anytime. Not with an automatic machine with coins...(!!)
Breakfast is far below average, with supermarket products. Always the same, every day...Not even a "real coffee" or a Capuccino...We are in Italy, no ??
The pool is nice with beautiful view, but not always very clean in the surroundings. Dustbins should be emptied every nights and not sometimes at 5 pm...
To conclude, this is a very beautiful place with beautiful view, but to justify such prices, owners have to invest in client service, professionalism, and quality of products. .

Room Tip: In the main building, not the garden floor.

Borgo-Petrognano, Proprietario at Borgo Petrognano, responded to this review, 9 September 2013
Dear guest,

I thank you for staying at our hotel and I am very sorry for all the complaints you made in your review.
We recently opened and are a new hotel, and we accept both positive and negative comments in order to improve our quality and provide the best services to all our guests. We assure you that costumer satisfaction is our top priority.

I briefly want to give a response to some of the complaints you made on the review:
In regard to the check-in staff, it usually strives to give guidance on itineraries and activities to be carried out. However, there are also various brochures with this information that you can get at the reception.
You can also find available staff in the hotel up to 8pm for information. There is not a bar but guests are asked if they need anything to eat or drink. The automatic distributor is only for any staff absences during night.
In regard to breakfast, desserts are homemade and only the marmalade is packed in individual portions. The cold cuts are bought from a factory of our trust rather than from the supermarket. Additionally, upon request, we are able to prepare cappuccino, espresso, hot chocolate and eggs.
The gardener is present every morning to tidy up the garden, clean the swimming pool and empty the bins that are usually emptied two to three times a day.

I want to thank you for taking the time to review our services and I hope to have responded comprehensively to all your points. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any other concerns and we will continue working on strategies to give our guests an amazing experience while staying with us.

Sincerely,
Borgo Petrognano

We spent 5 nights at Borgo Petrognano. Facilities were very nice, swimming pool in perfect conditions as well as sauna. Views from the terrance were just what you are expecting to see in Tuscany. Staff was fantastic, very service oriented. Rooms very comfortable, with air conditioning, mini bar. Very good breakfast with variety of fruits, yoghourts, cereal, pastries, ham, cheese, breads, juices and tea and coffee. In general we had a great experience, everything is placed with great taste, and definitely I recommend this place; very well located to visit Florence, Pisa, Sienna, San Gimignano, Volterra and close to a town with a few good choices for dinner.

High standard in interior design, nice views, junior suite had it own's terrace with panoramic view. Very nice restaurant accross the street, between the vineyards. Good breakfast, but i would have prefered some fresh espresso in stead of the thermos coffee

This is a 13th century residence completely restored with great taste in Tuscan style. Fantastic staff, gorgeous rooms, beautiful and peaceful garden, great pool, great complimentary breakfast, practical but hidden underground parking garage. All rooms have their own air conditioning unit for greater comfort. Located in the middle of Tuscan countryside, on a small road, offers absolutely stunning views of vineyards everywhere. You probably can't find a nicer, more peaceful place anywhere within 30 miles.

This is a gem in the countryside, just far enough from Florence that you need a car, but the location is soo beautiful The wi-fi signal is weak in some areas, but who cares about wi-fi in a place like this?

Thanks to Roberta for providing us great recommendations for nearby authentic Tuscan restaurants.

I would have only one recommendation for the owners and it would be to have a few board games available for the guests to play on the terrasse.
