This is a must do with kids, from Siena/ Florence. Did the kids' cooking class with 3 kids aged 6, 8 and 10, this was the highlight of their entire European holiday. After picking the vegetables from the farm, they made pasta and sauces in the fabulous rustic kitchen. Grown ups sampled the very good home made wine, and then ate the best meal we had in Italy. All of the staff speak perfect English, the cooking lesson by Stefania and Susanna was brilliant and the kids were captivated. They were knowledgeable and entertaining. We even had a sneaky swim in their fabulous pool and a look around the luxurious accommodation. The kids are already asking when we're going to stay.... if you're not lucky enough to stay, it's an easy 40 minute drive from Siena or Florence and will make your Tuscan experience. Last week we were at Al Gelso Bianco, and we have had a most fantastic time!
The apartments, as well as the garden and swimming pool, are nice and perfectly maintained. The region is beautiful, with San Gimignano (45 min) and Sienna (60 min) to be visited, and lots of cozy restaurants in the neighborhood (advised to us by Chiara). We also participated in the guided visit to the domain's winery and wine tasting (a must do!). The most valuable asset of this agroturismo is the staff: everybody is very friendly and available. We will certainly come back!

First family holiday in Tuscany and we'll definitely be heading back next year. Very friendly staff, wonderful location and everything you could hope for as a young family. The small number of apartments means there's never a fight to get a place round the pool and the whole set up feels very tranquil and relaxing. Local restaurants had plenty to offer and nearby towns meant we had everything on our doorstep. And nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

We had the fortune of staying at Al Gelso Bianco in July of this year. We travelled from Boston with two boys ages 8,10 and came from Rome to Tuscany.
We were immediately taken with the beauty of the surroundings and the incredible buildings on site. We stayed in Ginestra which is a roomy two bedroom, two bathroom, two floor apt with a private terrace (where we enjoyed breakfast daily overlooking the hilly vineyards) and a great kitchen. We loved the facilities onsite including the amazing pool (where every afternoon we relaxed while the boys swam with the kids from the other 7 accomodations) and the incredible state of the art kitchen, where we indulged in an amazing cooking class--literally farm to table as we went to the garden to pick the vegetables we used in our sauces and side dishes. This is an event not to miss!
The staff at Al Gelso could NOT have been more helpful and friendly. We found them to be exceptionally attentive--every dinner recommendation, travel recommendation, etc was top notch.
I absolutely cannot wait to return to Al Gelso Bianco and I would highly recommend it as a family destination from which to go to any number of Tuscan towns within a very short radius!

We cannot rate the Cooking Class that we had at Al Gelso Bianco Farm-Holiday Resort highly enough. The two Tuscan ladies who took the class - Susanna and Stefania were absolutely lovely and spoke great English. The class is perfect for any age and they even helped me to involve our young son whose just 4 and much more interested in playing with cars and jumping in a swimming pool than attending a cooking class. Irene and Chiara were both extremely helpful when we contacted them about the classes and sent us very helpful instructions of how to find them and were very flexible and accommodating throughout.

There were two families taking the class who had never met each other (us from the UK and a family from the US) and it was the perfect number with 4 adults and 6 children in total. We were attending the Pasta Making Class which is 80 Euros each for the adults an 40 Euros each for children up to age 13 and free for 5 and under. You attend the class, pick, make, cook (this takes 2.5 hrs approx) and then eat what you have made and can stay on the premises for a while after to enjoy the surroundings and make the meal a leisurely one with wine also made at Al Gelso Bianco. For what we received and in comparison to other cookery class prices, we found this to be spot on and the right price. You also get a print out of the recipes and they are happy for you to email them with questions once you're back home and trying to re-create the dishes in your own home.

The class began by taking us out to their vegetable garden and picking zucchini flowers and various vegetables to take back to cook and eat. We then returned to the beautifully appointed light and cool kitchen, where the adults were poured a glass of wine and during the cooking we all ate zucchini fritters.

We had booked the Pasta Making Class and this involved making and cooking Ravioli, Tagliatelle and Gnocchi Gnudi, Pesto and Tomato Sauce, a Vegetable Side Dish and Tuscan Apple Cake. I was a bit surprised at first because I expected each of us to be creating everything ourselves, but how the class runs is that we initially begin watching Susanna and Stefania creating the apple cake and the dough and then we each take turns in being involved such as stirring the cake mixture, putting the dough through the pasta making machine until it is very thin, making the ravioli by putting the pesto on the dough, folding it over and then cutting out the ravioli squares, mixing and stirring various ingredients together etc. By the end I thought this was a better way to do the class, as the food actually tasted amazing during the meal, it felt like we'd had a strong input in creating it, we hadn't got stressed out that any of our dishes had not come out correctly and had time to ask questions about the recipes, enjoy the wine and also make sure the kids were having a great time too.

We loved the class so much, the people who run Al Gelso Bianco and the beautiful surroundings and grounds that we'd love to go back and actually stay next time.

Thank you so much Irene, Stefania, Susanna and Chiara for a truly fantastic and memorable day. We have already recommended you to two friends!

With our 2 kids (8 & 3), we stayed there for a week for our 10th anniversary trip to Tuscany. Everything was perfect. The location is not far from Sienna, and not far from Florence, both of which can be quite touristy. There are great restaurants in adjacent towns 1-2 minutes away (Sant'appiano and Barberino - both of which are beautiful and quite towns), not to mention deli shops and supermarkets nearby. The kitchen nevertheless is fully equipped for cooking and baking with some of the tools I've never seen/used before and lots of eating utensils. We also did the pasta making course with owner Irene, and were much inspired by it. The kids had a great time and we even took a video of Irene singing and dancing with our 3 year old. Overall a 10/10 experience especially for a family holiday, and we'll definitely be back. Just a little suggestion- if tea, salt/pepper, cooking oil can be supplied it'll make it an 11/10!

We just returned from our second visit to the farm (first visit was in '08). Beautiful place with hosts that made us feel at home. In fact, we stayed a few days longer than we originally planned (just like we did 5 years ago), and our children begged us to move to the farm permanently! We are looking forward to visiting again.
