Castello di Tornano
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 15 August 2009

The genuine care and flexibility of all the team members of Castello di Tornano under the professional guidance and leadership of Massimo and Maura was one of the highlights of our stay. Nothing was asking too much and everyone was very much focused on making our stay very comfortable.
Chef Manuel is passionate about his food and cooks fresh, easy Tuscan country cuisine that is most enjoyable.
The location - half way between the Florence-Rome highway and Siena - is very convenient and provides for numerous short excursion options through the Chianti region and other areas of Tuscany.
The rooms are well appointed and elegantly furnished. Particularly the bathrooms are gems.
The hotel pool (with free towels and comfortable sun lounge chairs), whilst not heated, is a great addition to cool down in the summer heat.
Free wireless internet allows you to connect with what is important to you and should you not have brought your own laptop along, the hotel offers an internet corner too.
Horseback riding through the hills and vineyards of the estate is a great opportunity to experience the beautiful surroundings from a slightly different point of view.
The cooking lessons and wine tastings conducted by the hotel's team members are educational and highly recommended.
Be conscious that you are in the middle of the Tuscan countryside and in hot weather periods there is a chance for mosquitoes - be prepared.
Ask the team at the hotel's reception for recommendations to dine in the nearby villages and vineries. All recommendations we received were excellent and all restaurants required bookings, as they were full every night.
A most memorable and perfect holiday

We stayed at Castle di Tornano for 15 days in the height of the season. Everyday was perfect sunshine, beautiful views of Tuscany and each day more relaxing then the prior. The property consists of renovated rooms in the castle proper and efficiency apartmetns of various sizes of a more rustic nature (we stayed in both and found the castle to be highly luxurious while the apartments were basic but enjoyable.) The grounds of the property were exquisite as was the service provided by Maura, Massimo, Victor and Gulkrit. We often had lunch and dinner on the property which were wonderful. We also were able to cook in our flat. The wine tasting was a perfect experience led by Victor. Don't forget to purchase the Olive Oil as well.

We just stayed for a week at Castello di Tornano, 2 adults and a 13 year old daughter. I had no idea that it would be so lush and beautiful. We stayed in the apartment "bosso," which was ample for us. The furnishings, kitchen, bathroom were all very good. The options for outdoor leisure sitting were numerous, many with great views of the valley. The rooftop of the tower had great views and a nice hot tub for tired feet and bodies after days walking and horse riding. The stables don't look like much, but the horses were good. Our daughter had two excellent lessons with Reuben, a professional rider. The wine tasting with Victor was superb and the dinner / wine at Castello was excellent. The pool, in part of the castle moat was beautiful and a welcome treat on a hot afternoon.

The staff was very courteous and friendly. We'd go back anytime!

My husband is a former travel agent, and I am a former wedding planner. Between us, we have extensive experience of hotels and venues all over the world.

We chose Castello di Tornano to host our own wedding celebrations over a weekend and were delighted with all aspects of the service we received there.

We had been concerned by several of the comments below, but now we are incredibly thankful that we trusted our own instincts and booked this hotel anyway, despite these negative reviews.

The location is jaw-droppingly stunning, the rooms and apartments are charming and beautiful, the food and wine are superb and every one of the staff were friendly and helpful beyond any expectation.

We have since been contacted by many of our guests who say that this was not only the best wedding they had ever been to, but the best holiday they had ever had.

I cannot praise this hotel highly enough.

for what we paid during off season, and our expectations set by both the website, and tripadvisor; this establishment met all of our needs and had no negative off sets.

this is one of many castles in tuscany that you can stay at. it seemed to be a central location to the wine region we toured. large rooms, private gardens to hang out in. beautiful public space. well marked to find.

the staff was super nice.

if your perspective is to be treated like a king and be fed grapes and fanned with palms with the best chianti of the reigon, stay somewhere else. this is a friendly, down-to-earth establishment who appeal to the same type of people. we loved it.

We spent a week in the Romeo & Juliette room at Castello di Tornano and thought it was absolutely beautiful. The castle is beautifully furnished and the location divine.
The food was overpriced - quality and variety both very average - but the wine and terrace view were spectacular.
We're surprised at other reviews about unfriendly staff - they were polite and professional with us - chatty if you engage them but generally they leave you alone.
We did the cookery lesson which we enjoyed but wouldn't recommend it to others as it was overpriced and not at all planned - it seemed easy money for the venue.
We also did the horseriding which we would dissuade others from doing - the horses were not trained and threw one of us off.
Stick to the pool, the hot tub, the wine and the stunning views. Ideal for 3 - 4 nights of romantic peace and easy conversation.

Breakfast extrimelly expensive 12 europes for just continental breakfast is never heard off. Lots of problems on checkout with breakfast price and with welcome drink too. Sorry but can not recommend this place.
