The location was gorgeous and very convienient for visiting multiple vineyards. It was also a very close drive to both Florence and Siena. The wine tasting was great and the olive oil is some of the best I have ever had. We stayed three nights in one of the apartments called Spiga. The apartment was comfortable enough, however it was very hot the days we were there so the no A/C was a little rough. However, if you open the windows at night it cools it off. The pool was also great for cooling off and relaxing during the day. The dinner was amazing and defintitely worth it, but it was also worth getting recommendations for places to eat in some of the local towns like Radda. Overall I would stay there again in an instant and we were very sad to have to go.

We came to this place with great expectations with plans to stay 5 nights. Unfortunately, the weather was not good and the room we were staying in was cold and dark and made for an unpleasant stay. After the first night, we asked if the heating could be rectified but it was still cold the second night we spent there. We both became ill (cold/flu) on our third day there and had to cancel the remainder of our stay. We ended up having to pay for three nights (despite only spending two nights) because of our late cancellation - but we really had no choice but to escape to a warmer location. Also, the apartment that we were in had very thin walls and we could hear everything in the adjoining room's bathroom (yes.. everything). We woke up on the third morning to hear our neighbour throwing up ... after a late night?? It was very unpleasant. On the positive side, the staff were generally friendly and tried to be helpful. The restaurant was very nice and the meal we had on our first evening was very good. Also, although wifi was free it was not accessible in our apartment which meant we had to sit in the foyer of the castle to use it. We never saw what the castle accommodation was like - it may have been much better than the room we were in but we don't know and were never offered this as an option. I'm sure the place would be lovely on a bright sunny day if you were staying in the castle proper but it was a horrible experience for us.

The Catello di Tornano was a pleasant surprise. We had booked a 3 night cooking experience online and all went splendid. We were picked up by a private taxi in Florence and driven to this small castle on a hill. We were welcomed by the owner and Manuel the cook. The room was in the castle and not the tower. It took up a third of the floor and was huge by European standards. We had all a courtyard and valley view from our windows. The castle, although small was very interesting to walk around. We were unable to use the pool as it was too cold. The hot tub on the roof of the tower was our only complaint as it was not clean. We were the only couple staying one night and only saw 6 others staying there over 3 nights. Manuel was a great cook. We had about 6-7 hours of italian cooking lessons with him. He and his helper cooked wonderful meals. 5 star all the way. Their wine was very good also. We wished now we brought more home with us. Had a bottle with every meal. We also had a private tour of Sienna as part of our package. Also wonderful (but eat at a restaurant outside of the main square).
The room was very comfortable. The tv was small but was never turned on. The surrounding area was great to hike.

The genuine care and flexibility of all the team members of Castello di Tornano under the professional guidance and leadership of Massimo and Maura was one of the highlights of our stay. Nothing was asking too much and everyone was very much focused on making our stay very comfortable.
Chef Manuel is passionate about his food and cooks fresh, easy Tuscan country cuisine that is most enjoyable.
The location - half way between the Florence-Rome highway and Siena - is very convenient and provides for numerous short excursion options through the Chianti region and other areas of Tuscany.
The rooms are well appointed and elegantly furnished. Particularly the bathrooms are gems.
The hotel pool (with free towels and comfortable sun lounge chairs), whilst not heated, is a great addition to cool down in the summer heat.
Free wireless internet allows you to connect with what is important to you and should you not have brought your own laptop along, the hotel offers an internet corner too.
Horseback riding through the hills and vineyards of the estate is a great opportunity to experience the beautiful surroundings from a slightly different point of view.
The cooking lessons and wine tastings conducted by the hotel's team members are educational and highly recommended.
Be conscious that you are in the middle of the Tuscan countryside and in hot weather periods there is a chance for mosquitoes - be prepared.
Ask the team at the hotel's reception for recommendations to dine in the nearby villages and vineries. All recommendations we received were excellent and all restaurants required bookings, as they were full every night.
A most memorable and perfect holiday

We stayed at Castle di Tornano for 15 days in the height of the season. Everyday was perfect sunshine, beautiful views of Tuscany and each day more relaxing then the prior. The property consists of renovated rooms in the castle proper and efficiency apartmetns of various sizes of a more rustic nature (we stayed in both and found the castle to be highly luxurious while the apartments were basic but enjoyable.) The grounds of the property were exquisite as was the service provided by Maura, Massimo, Victor and Gulkrit. We often had lunch and dinner on the property which were wonderful. We also were able to cook in our flat. The wine tasting was a perfect experience led by Victor. Don't forget to purchase the Olive Oil as well.
