“Perfect location in Umbria”
Reviewed 2 September 2013

We stayed at Casco dell’Acqua, in the apartment called Clitunno, for a full week at the end of June 2013. It was one of our most agreeable stays in Italy for over 15 years.
First of all, here is a really immaculate property, meticulously well maintained by Luigi and Carla. All looks new, much cared for and done in good taste with well appointed furniture and accessories making you feel absolutely at home.
The location is brilliant. Situated some 4 km from Trevi we were right in the middle of the countryside in between Spoleto (25 mins), Assisi (same), Montefalco (15 mins) and Bevagna (20 mins). Yet you are only 5 mins away from the highway.
The country house is set on the delightful little stream named Clitunno. You cross a quaint little bridge to drive into the property. Plenty of parking place available. Huge shopping centre nearby.
And then there is the glorious swimming pool of a good size, with plenty of deck chairs, and a fine view over the countryside.
Luigi thinks of everything, helps with everything and makes you feel a very welcome guest. He and Carla are very friendly, warm and gracious hosts.
Highly recommended.

I have decided to spend three days in this country house with my husband and my little daugther, mainly because of the cooking facilities inside the room (absolutely necessary while travelling with a baby child), the swimming-pool in the middle of fields, lavender flowerbeds, and the nice countryside surroundings of Umbria, which I love. So my expectation of spending a few days just relaxing in a good, well-finished accomodation was not let down.
The room was very clean, furniture looked almost new, and only few guests shared the nice, fresh swimming-pool (with slightly salty water!), located close to the fields and the small river Clitunno. The place (to be reached only with by car, otherwise I think it would be impossible) is very silent (unless some neighbour decides to fleece the lawn grass at 7 am, as happened during my staying), some 20 minutes from the beautiful city of Spoleto. Unfortunately, the daily maintainance cycle of the air conditioning system is planned between 1 and 6 am, so that air conditioning is off during those hours, the rooms becoming quite hot at night, in spite of the windows let open (but an extra-hot wave was there at that time). The breakfast is good, but the food you find may depend on how much later you go after the "beginning".
We also had a dinner there: a nice evening spent outdoors, with beautiful countryside air, nice food and two-three glasses of good wine, this latter offered by the owner during the dinner... at the modest extra-price of 11€ per person upon the previously declared all-inclusive "menu fisso" price of 35€ per person! The bottles were shared among all tables, and then charged after calculation of the average drink per person: a strange system, not declared at the beginning (more transparency would be appreciated on that aspect!).
Anyway I would ultimately suggest this place for vacation with children and/or partner in beautiful Umbria, to come back to as well. Relax, art and sightseeing are at hand.

Room Tip: Mansard is really nice and wide (the bedroom not as wide as the whole, but nonetheless it had enough...

We recently travelled to the Umbria area of Italy and stayed in this amazing agriturismo. Since we were travelling with another couple we stayed in the Clitunno Apartment which was beautiful and contained a small kitchenette where we cooked a few meals. The Country House is wonderfully layed out, pristine and we had the opportunity to enjoy one of our evening meals at their on-site restaurant where we enjoyed an amazing meal. The location is wonderful since it is nestled within the valley which makes it easy to sightsee surround towns (Montefalco, Bevagna, Spello). Luigi and Carla made us very welcome and were helpful with suggestions on exploring. We would highly recommend!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Casco dell'Acqua on a recent trip to Umbria. The property is pretty and well maintained. The owners, friendly and helpful. We stayed in Maderno. The apartment is a convenient base for exploring the region. The downside of the location is that 1) it is in the valley, and much hotter and less scenic than the hilly areas of Umbria and 2) while the immediate surroundings of the country house are nice (what you can see in photos online), it is located quite near to an ugly industrial zone (just beyond what you see in the photos online) that we often had to drive through to go to the grocery store or visit nearby villages.

There was no comfortable sitting area in our one bedroom apartment. The dining room/living room in Maderno only has an upholstered chair big enough for one person. The only other option is the dining table, which is fine, but not so comfortable when you want to relax with a book. Also, the country house's terrace (the only outdoor sitting area for guests) is lit at night by harsh white light, which makes it an uninviting place to spend time in the evening. You can see from the online photos the layout of the apartment, but my boyfriend and I underestimated the how much of a difference it makes to have a place to just "plop" down after a day of sightseeing.

For us, the overall atmosphere was a bit too sterile. Everything is nice and new and clean but somehow lacking in charm. We wouldn't stay here again. Mainly due to the location.

I'd recommend this country house to people looking for a nice place to sleep, a quick swim and a good base for exploring the region, not to those who want a more relaxing experience with time to read and enjoy a glass a wine at home in the evenings in addition to sightseeing. In that case, I think there are better options. But I have the feeling the place is quite new and I can imagine the experience for guests will improve.

Room Tip: The Maderno apartment doesn't have a comfortable sitting area. Unless you are traveling alone...

I spent 12 days in mid of past august at Country House together with my parents, in two different apartments. The place is amazing; not only you will find a very modern accomodation, supplying everything tech you want, from sat rv to wifi Internet connection, but you will soon discover that the plus of Country House comes from Luigi and Carla, the brothers who manage the house and take care of every of your needles.
Luigi is an architect and he personally renewed all the apartments in a magnificent way. He's also an expert of wine and grilled local world class meat. You will be tempted in many ways by his suggestions.
Carla takes care of the guests in a very pleasant way and the impression you will have is to be among friends. I can't avoid to recommend Carla's cakes and pastries...a large variety of treats for your line always freshly baked every morning for your breakfast. Food at dinner is a pleasure, since you will soon discover the quality of local products and the experience in using them to present delicious courses.
From Casco dell'Acqua it's very easy to reach all the famous towns in Umbria, from Assisi to Foligno, from Spoleto to Todi and so on. Of course Luigi will promptly provide help in every activity you want to try. Bikes, fishing, a sea water pool to relax and the beautiful countryside in Umbria are an awesome combination staying at Country House.
Surely worth a comeback!

We were a young couple on our first holiday and the stay at Casco dell'Acqua made it one to remember. We stayed in the studio apartment, La Polzella. Kitchen was spot on for simple meals. As with everything else the layout was well thought - out. Carla and Luigi made us feel comfortable and were so kind. The bikes were in excellent condition (we hired them to cycle to Spoleto, Trevi and Montelfaco). Landscaping around the property was beautiful, everything smelled wonderful, inside at outside the country house. The pool was a delight, as was the food. Luigi's robot that cleaned the pool was also highly amusing. I could not recommend this place enough. Perfection.
